We had lunch at Somorrostro on a Saturday, and it was the best meal we had in Barcelona. Recommended by a friend (and backed up by Yelp reviews), we had an unforgettable meal.
The restaurant takes reservations online, and we were able to get a lunch reservation the same day at 1 PM (which is when they open). The dining room is pretty small, with maybe ten or twelve tables, and the minuscule kitchen sits in the middle. The menus are written on chalkboards around the restaurant in English and Spanish.
The plates are all tapas, for sharing, and the options are incredibly varied and interesting. We ordered a little bit of everything: octopus with potato and chorizo, grilled seafood mix, skipjack with pistachio and sour cream, fennel carpaccio, black rice with smoked sardine and rabbit, padron peppers, zucchini flowers stuffed with cheese, oysters with passion fruit, and flat bread with tomato.
Everything was pretty good, but there were a few standouts like the octopus, which was very tender, and the potato chorizo mixture was deadly good. The raw skipjack tuna on a pistachio cracker with sour cream was also incredibly delicious. The grilled seafood mix was an incredible collection of clams, mussels, shrimp, and squid in a huge pile with a delicious juice underneath.
Based on the strength of the main dishes, we ordered three dessert dishes. I won't ruin this otherwise very positive review, but I'll just say that the desserts were all a little more inventive than we were in the mood for. If I ever have a chance to go back (which I would welcome), I will probably skip dessert.
Otherwise, it was a great experience, and I can't recommend the restaurant highly enough. Friendly service, delicious food, and nice relaxed ambience in the thick of Barceloneta. read more
