My husband called the clock shop. The owner (Chuck) seemed very nice and accommodating. We called on a Tuesday and he made a housecall on Wednesday the next day. He dismantled our grandfather clock and also took an antique French clock that we purchased which was not working and I had misplaced the pendulum which I made him aware of. He said no problem that he had extras. He stated it would be 4-6 weeks for him to return them as he had about 40 clocks waiting in front of us, and asked for half of the price to repair up front.Almost 5 weeks went by without a word from him so we called. He said he was working on the grandfather clock which should be finished by the end of the week. He came the following Monday (which he stated we're his only housecall day. The clock has been working fine since then. HOWEVER, our French clock was not ready and he said he still needed to work on it. Again, I called the following week as he still made no attempt to let us know the status, and he said he needed to order a new pendulum (which he already had 6 weeks to have done that). When asked why he hadn't done it earlier he then said he needed to make a phone call about it (?), it would need to be cut and calibrated, etc. We we're going on vacation a few days later and we reluctantly agreed to let him keep it until we returned expecting it to be delivered, again, upon the Monday we returned. No phone call, no delivery and when I called his number - he was on vacation. I immediately felt this guy was taking advantage to say the least and he had our $3,000 antique clock 'somewhere' for sure but where. Did he sell it, keep it? I was becoming very agitated not knowing his intentions, lack of response, etc. So I called the police to file a theft report and the sherrif also left him a message. I left him another message on his machine stating such with fury in my voice. He finally returned our call upon his return and we demanded he bring it back. He didn't fix it, he didn't return our deposit all the while having it for over 2 months. This man is in the business for the money for which he has more clocks to repair than he can manage and should be taking on more business than he can handle. Additionally, he made a 'special housecall' on a day other than typical, and cashed our check as soon as he left our house. WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND ANOTHER CLOCK REPAIR BUSINESS EVEN IF IT'S OUT OF THE AREA - AND CHECK THEIR REPUTATION BEFORE LEAVING YOUR VALUABLE PROPERTY!!!! read more
