It is a small place, basically a home, and when you walk in there are many older clocks for sale. The place is run by one person and you can see that he stays busy with all the clocks and watches behind the counter. He took a look and said it needed cleaning for sure and after a cleaning readjusted. Both things I had seen and read about on the internet. The service for that is over $300. He said it would be around two months for it to be finished and asked that I don't call to check on the progress because he is the one that answers the calls and that slows him up. He is nice and answered my questions and didn't rush me out. He said the cleaning doesn't take to long but the adjustments are done over a period of days to make sure the clock keeps its time. I would recommend the place if you have the time to wait. If I remember I will update this when I get the clock back.

Review for Classical Clocks and Antiques - Livermore, CA I…read morebrought my Herschede W.M. Chime Mantel Clock to Classical Clocks and Antiques on Stanley Blvd in Livermore for repair on February 2, 2024. Over the next 18 months, I followed up numerous times and was repeatedly told that progress was being made. But when I finally asked to have the clock returned--in any condition--I was told it couldn't even be located. Then, on July 24, 2025, I was told the clock had been found and that repairs were underway. I was promised it would be completed within a week. Trusting that, I agreed to let the work continue. When I returned a week later, I was again told work was under way and should be done soon. I asked to see the clock and found it sitting on a dirty shelf among other dismantled clocks. The dial and bezel were missing, and a bag of parts was tossed in a pile of other loose components. There was no evidence of any actual repair progress. I asked for the clock and all parts to be returned to me right then, but he couldn't find the dial and bezel. I was told the bezel and dial would be found within the week. So, I returned again on August 4, 2025, and asked him to find the parts. He refused to even look. I ended up searching the cluttered shop myself and found the missing parts scattered across the ridiculously messy shop. This level of neglect, disorganization, broken promises, and lack of accountability is simply unacceptable. I entrusted this shop with something irreplaceable, and that trust was completely violated. I strongly urge others not to bring anything of value or sentimental importance to this shop.

I remembered his corner shop at 26th and Sanchez to be cheek-to-jowel with ticking stock-it still is. We spent a pleasant 30 minutes yesterday when I brought it back in for Mr. Clair to give it a look and see if he could find out why she kept stopping after 20 minutes of ticking. He was up front about costs and possibilities so I left it with him. Imagine my surprise when he emailed me this morning to tell me my clock was ready. He explained he had nowhere to keep it so he just fixed it. The price was his exact quote from yesterday. I am gleefully listening to the steady, warm ticking of my clock and am thankful that I remembered this skilled craftsman and renewed a friendship.

The store is packed with clocks, lovingly collected over the decades they've been in business. It's hardly surprising the shop been around so long: they're honest, take the time to explain how things work (and don't), and will likely get your timepiece ticking again if it's stuck so it's accurate more than 2x a day. It's not sleek, generic, curated type of place but the work they do here is certainly bespoke. Nestled on the corner of one of the City's most beloved Slow Streets at 26th and Sanchez, this charming, one-person-at-a-time shop (where the clocks--and the shop cat-- are given more room than people) is the place to go if your clock needs repair or if you're in the market for a vintage timepiece and need some advice on old-timey timepieces (they don't sell the items in the store). When I went, Max helped me and eagerly chatted with me about escapements, pendulums, and balance bars (yes, still talking about clocks here) leaving no doubt that he and his owner-boss are among the most knowledgeable out there.
