EDIT: I was able to retrieve my clock today. The owner stated he had called and left a message the day after the last time I had stopped in to ask about the clock. He also said he stopped by my house and left a note with his card. Never got that or a message. Regardless, we have our clock back and it appears to be working correctly. He does good work, just needs to brush up on communication and follow through. I should have been more diligent as well; that's on me too. I upgraded the stars to reflect my review. I am reviewing this store with regards to a Black Forest Cuckoo Clock he took from our home on April 4, 2015 for repair after we had him replace the complete movement for our Herschede grandfather clock. We had originally trusted him to fix this cuckoo clock in November of 2014 for an issue with the chiming of the clock. We paid him $150 via personal check number 8325 dated 11/08/2014. We discussed the repair or replacement of the movement in our grandfather clock then, and agreed to have it replaced. He took the movement, and finally brought it to our home on April 4, 2015 to replace it. We paid him $667.45 via check number 8345 for the grandfather clock movement replacement. At that time, we informed him the cuckoo clock was still not working correctly, so he agreed to take the clock back to his shop to fix it again. Since that time, we have not heard from him at all about our valuable clock, other than a brief voicemail he left on October 1, 2016 (which we have saved) stating he was sorry for being busy and would look for the clock and call us back the following Monday. When we try to call his shop, we cannot leave a message because the mailbox is full. I stopped in his store a few months back to inquire about our clock, and he stated he didn't know what I was talking about. He took my name and phone number and said he would research my request and get back to me. I am still waiting for a response. We retained one of the carved pine trees that decorated the left side of the clock. read more

One reasons this business may have over 300 anitque clocks is that it likely some of the "mis-splaced" clocks of his cutomers. I took my clock in for repair in October of 2023. At least a dozen in person visits and countless phone calls--my great aunt's mantle clock is gone. Broken foot, Spider bite, Covid--twice, interns moving the clocks around are some of the excuses I have heard. I highly regret that when I sent to pick up the clock he convinced me to leave it with him for one more week to make sure it was keeping time. (Fall of 23) He tried to give me someone's else mantle clock at one point. When I asked him to pay me an average of what my clock sells on E-Bay he told me he didn't have any money. read more

If I could give zero stars I would! Don't have Nile repair your clock!! It's a great place to buy a clock I suppose, but I have had my clock in Nile's shop for over 11 months and he can't find it! It's a fire hazard and I want my clock back. I even searched through the layers of clocks on desks, floors and boxes. My father gave me that clock 40 years ago and I want it back! Review for Classical Clocks and Antiques - Livermore, CA I brought my Herschede W.M. Chime Mantel Clock to Classical Clocks and Antiques on Stanley Blvd in Livermore for repair on February 2, 2024. Over the next 18 months, I followed up numerous times and was repeatedly told that progress was being made. But when I finally asked to have the clock returned--in any condition--I was told it couldn't even be located. Then, on July 24, 2025, I was told the clock had been found and that repairs were underway. I was promised it would be completed within a week. Trusting that, I agreed to let the work continue. When I returned a week later, I was again told work was under way and should be done soon. I asked to see the clock and found it sitting on a dirty shelf among other dismantled clocks. The dial and bezel were missing, and a bag of parts was tossed in a pile of other loose components. There was no evidence of any actual repair progress. I asked for the clock and all parts to be returned to me right then, but he couldn't find the dial and bezel. I was told the bezel and dial would be found within the week. So, I returned again on August 4, 2025, and asked him to find the parts. He refused to even look. I ended up searching the cluttered shop myself and found the missing parts scattered across the ridiculously messy shop. This level of neglect, disorganization, broken promises, and lack of accountability is simply unacceptable. I entrusted this shop with something irreplaceable, and that trust was completely violated. I took three clocks to Nile for repair in Jan. 2022. Two are antiques and the third is my parents Anniversary clock from 72 yrs ago. I've visited the store and was told he ordered parts. I've called numerous times, left messages and got no reply. He is a disorganized and incompetent business owner. My next step is legal action. read more

On 9/6/2024 I left an antique pocket watch for a quote for repairs. I have called repeatedly, gone to the store numerous times and it's always closed. Today I called the Livermore Police. They do not have another phone number for Mr. Godfrey. My next step will be small claims court. read more

Just went into this incredible store today and spoke with the owner, Nile, who was delightful! The store has every kind of clock you can possibly want. I'm sorry to write this, but I must. My experience was highly disappointing. The clock I dropped off for repair over 2 months ago was "misplaced" by the shop owner, but I did a search and found it down a pathway piled on top of other clocks and boxes. The accompanying jar with the key, screws and clock hands was lost. I decided to pull back my clock and cancel the repair. The owners office is overloaded with clocks and parts, with little room for sitting, and the rest of the store is a MAJOR fire hazard, with little room for moving or walking. If city fire came in for an inspection, I'd wager the owner would pay heavy fines, or be forced to shut the place down. It's an UNSAFE walking and working environment. From front to back the store is completely disorganized and has walking obstructions, heaped with both broken and working clocks intermixed. There's nothing to wax romantic over with this environment - junk yards are in better shape - Clutter is too polite a word to describe what's going on there. The owner apparently has had some medical issues, and I'm sorry for that, but what I saw in that store amounts to decades of disorganization and poor store management. I've always believed in supporting my local businesses, but I can't soften what my experience was and what I see there. I just don't understand how the owner can make a profit and stay in business. I'm sorry for being blunt, but I just can't recommend this place under any circumstance. read more

WARNING: DON"T GO HERE FOR REPAIRS!! If only I had read recent Yelp reviews before I brought my battery-operated wall clock in for repair, as I had 14 years ago. Fourteen years ago, Nile had my clock back in a matter of a couple of weeks. This time was different! I finally got it back after three months! I feel really fortunate compared to some of the other reviewers! Over the 3 months I've called, come in, and gotten one excuse after another. Today when I went in I had full intention of taking it back regardless of whether it was finished. I had to find it! He had no idea where it was. It was running, and fixed. Today I took my second vintage Syroco clock to our local antique clock dealer repair shop. Unfortunately though I have the original key to the clock, which is rare, its tick tock sound was like a real life Tell-Tale Heart in my living room (however apropos for the spooky season, not cool for the nerves). It also no longer lasted for 8 days as advertised on the clock, as it is most likely 70+ years old. Anyhoo, the owner is just a delight to talk to and it's simply fascinating to stroll through his inventory - it's more like a museum than a store really. It's my kind of place, chock full of stuff with a story. We dropped off my mother's cuckoo clock to have the minute hand replaced back in December 2022. I meant it to be a Christmas gift to get it fixed for her. After not hearing back for three months despite leaving messages requesting updates, I visited the store and was told he would get to it soon. He took down my ticket number again, which was worrisome. Another 10 weeks go by, no word from Nile. It is now May 2023. We visited the store to pick up the clock - we want it back whether it is fixed or not. We were told he had rearranged items in the store and was not sure where the clock is, so would call on Tuesday. It is now Wednesday, he has not called. At this point I really just want the clock returned. I feel sick with worry - I don't know when or even if we will get our mother's clock back. I absolutely do not recommend anyone drop off their clocks here for repairs. read more

Ridiculous duration with my clock. I have to him in early May 2021 and asked if he could have back to me before I moved at the end of the month. They were unable to finish it until November of 2022. I regularly called them to follow up and was often told to check back in a couple of weeks. I made two trips back to Livermore after I moved and gave them heads up that I was coming to prompt them to complete. They did not. Lots of excuses. When finally finished I took extraordinary means to get back. $400 to ship as I wasn't going to drive back up 400 miles one way and wanted to get it back. This store is a gem! I purchased a Howard Miller Grandfather clock and a small, darling coo-coo clock from the 1930s (it came in its original box). Both items were priced competitively, are great quality and bring me a lot of joy. The shop owner, Nile, is an expert, very kind and seems to run the large shop on his own. He delivered my Grandfather clock speedily with no hiccups. I definitely recommend this shop to any clock and antique lovers. We are lucky to have such a rare find. read more

Just a quick follow-up to my review from 15 days ago. At that time, my newly "repaired" clock was running slow by 5 minutes per hour. It now loses about 8 hours per day. I will not take my clock back to Niles, as he obviously isn't qualified to fix it. I will follow the advice of the guy who left a negative review yesterday and will take my clock to Ray in Dublin. read more

I'm sure the clock anyone would bring to repair at Classical Clocks and Antiques is precious. Mine certainly was having been in the family 50+ years. After 6 months in shop, the propreiter, Niall informed me he had lost my dial...the face of the clock. How does that happen? Who does that? After a few months of my badgering him, i gave up. My experience is almost a carbon copy of other reviews. He doesn't return calls as promised, he does not honor commitments, and he blames covid and other ailments. I only wish I had read reviews prior. I ultimately retrieved my clock minus a dial and took it to Ray at Dublin Clock Shop who searched and found a replacement dial. Not original but it at least now tells time. Cost me $250. It's a real shame...shame on Niall. He is a nice elderly man who has no business running this business. I gave them my cookoo clock in October 2021 and as of today 4/21/22 still have not received back. He said he lost it for a few months and last I spoke to him which was over 2 weeks ago he said he found it and ordered parts to fix. Said it should be ready in a few days. I took a clock into Classic Clocks & Antiques in March of 2020. The clock belonged to my mother, who passed in 2019. The clock wasn't valuable, but held sentimental value. When I took the clock in, it wasn't working, but was together in decent condition, with all the internal parts. Nile was friendly, I told Nile that I didn't want to spend hundreds on the clock to make it work, but to let me know. After several calls to the business, and no return calls, I went into the store a couple months later, he hadn't looked at it, it was still sitting behind the counter. After several months, and no returned calls, I returned to the shop to talk with Nile. My clock was missing, and could not be located. He said he had help cleaning the shop and things were moved. I explained that when the clock was found to notify me and I would come and get it. I never heard back and after several months I returned. He said he found the clock and had taken it apart. I asked for the clock, he handed it to me and I noticed the internal parts were missing and a piece had been broken off. He promised to order new parts and have it done before Christmas. That didn't happen! Today I returned to get the clock, it took him a while to find it. I gave Nile a 2, he's a nice guy, but I would recommend him beyond replacing batteries, which he did several times while I waited to get my clock. read more

1 year and 3 months ago Niles from classical Clocks and antique in Livermore came to my house took a pendulum for repair and a very rare French clock to clean. When I asked him for an invoice he said he was out and would bring one by later. He never did and the entire conversation was caught on ring camera. I waited patiently for 2 weeks and called for updates and he said he was swamped with work and hadn't gotten to either item and was waiting on parts for my grandfather clock pendulum. Every week for 1 year and 2.5 months I have contacted Niles. He always tells me he hasn't done any work and I have asked him weekly for my items returned. Always an excuse I have been kind and patient. Today I went in there. Enough is enough and I poked around myself. Nowhere was my clock to be found. I told Niles I wanted my items back by Monday or I would bring my receipt to him and he can pay me for I had paid for the clock. His response "that's never going to happen and you can leave my shop".... I lost my cool slightly but was still respectful . Someone came in the shop and walked into the exchange of words and walked out. I walked outside and the gentleman said he heard everything and felt sorry for me. Niles walked outside when he saw me talking to the gentleman and I asked him what he wanted and he said he was coming out to see the rain.... I told him Monday have my clock or be prepared to pay for it. And he asked me to don't talk to him like that. He had Covid last year.... And that's his excuse for not giving me back my items. He then asked me to give him a chance and I repeated please have my items back by Monday or be prepared to pay me for I paid for them and he smirked at me.....I have been more then accommodating and at this point My patience is gone and I want my stuff. First he was waiting for parts, and then it was he had had gotten over Covid and his mind isn't working, both of which could be believable except for now seeing from previous reviews that this has been going on for years. When we call he takes our number again and again and says he'll get back to us later that day, and then nothing. Last July 2022 we were told it would be two more weeks. I took my daughters G.E. Westminster Chimes clock in for minor repair , a lovely mantle clock, in early autumn of 2022. when I didn't hear from the owner of the shop, I called & was told that he had hired some boys to help clean "out back" and he would find the clock. I've been taking all my timepieces here for many years. Mr. Godfrey and Mr. Andresen have always gone above and beyond to provide excellent service UNTIL NOW. I left a valuable (both $$ and sentimental) clock for repair and now cannot get it back. I presume it was lost, stolen, or otherwise disposed. Nile has promised, on multiple occasions, to ship it back to me, but now does not return my calls or emails. I have, in the past, trusted him with some of my most treasured heirlooms. I left three clocks that were my mother's with the owner in May of 2021 (10 months ago.). I have gone to the store several times to pick them up because at this point, I don't care that they haven't been worked on. I'll take them somewhere else, but every time I've gone back, the owner tells me that he can't locate them and I should come back in a few weeks. The clocks have a lot of sentimental value to me and I'm done being patient with him. This is no way to run a business! This is a follow up to the review above. I went to to Classical Clocks today, told him I want my clocks back, I'm not going to leave until he finds them, and I'm not going to take anymore excuses. He came up with two of them right away and the third one was found within half an hour. He is a nice man, but he's in way over his head with a huge amount of clocks to be repaired. I would encourage anyone who thinks getting their clocks back is a lost cause to do what I did because your clocks are probably still there. read more

I have used Nile's service in the past and was satisfied. In September, one of my old clocks had to replace a spring. And another one needed to replace the cable for the weights. I brought both clocks to Nile on 9/3/20 and he told me it would take approx.4-6 weeks, which seemed long but I accepted. When I have not heard from him I called him on 10/26/20 and he told me that he is working on it and it would take two more weeks as he wants to make sure the clocks run properly. After I didn't hear from him, I called him again on 11/20/20 and he told me it would be ready next week. on 11/25/20 I went to his shop and paid and picked up one of the clocks. The other was not ready as he said he had to order the cable. Don't know why he didn't order the parts back in September. The one clock I picked up, didn't ring at 8, 9 and 10pm, so I brought it back to him to check. He said everything would be ready by Saturday 12/5/20. It was not. I called again on 12/17/20 and he said everything will be ready Saturday 12/19/20. It was. 3 1/2 months after I dropped off the clocks!!! The one clock which didn't ring at certain hours, still does not ring. Don't know yet what I'll do. Nile is a very nice guy, but he is way over his head. He should not accept work if he can not deliver on time. He generally knows what he is doing but if you leave a clock with him, double check with him whether he can deliver the service as he is promising. I doubt I will go back to him. read more

Beware! Really. Initially a nice enough guy, the owner/Nile turned out to be a HUGE flake who can't be bothered to call you back. When I finally did get a hold of him, he had nothing but defensive excuses as to why he could not perform the work or return any of my calls. Hearing his excuses truly reminded me of talking to a teenager who fails to accept any level of responsibility (I should know .. I have two). Wow. I dropped off a small electric Seth mantle clock in November 2014 with hopes of getting it back by Christmas or at least the end of the year. Literally, 5 months (yes, MONTHS) and 5 phone calls later (3 messages left and 2 uncomfortably awkward, difficult conversations when I actually got a hold of him), still nothing! Thank God the clock had no sentimental or real monetary value. I was so frustrated, pissed off, and disgusted, I ended up not going back to retrieve it. It sincerely boggles my mind how he stays in business with this level of atrocious customer service. Don't believe me? Check out a couple of his 'hidden' Yelp! reviews. I definitely should have before I went to him for repair services. While his shop is cute with some really cool antiques, I wouldn't recommend this place for clock repair to Osama bin Laden, let alone a friend or family member. read more

This is such a cool little store! I was going to Quickly's with a friend and we saw this store with clocks and antiques in the window and decided to check it out. I have always loved antique stores and going into them always makes me feel nostalgic because my mom used to take me to them all the time when I was little (and no, to my knowledge, I never broke anything). It's a bit cluttered and doesn't appear to be very well organized but that's part of the charm of these old places. The shopping experience becomes a treasure hunt. Mostly they have clocks but there are also figurines, some vintage coffee machines, old time radios, advertising plates from the 30s, 40s, and 50s, what looked like dollhouse furniture, some padded dais, and more. I am definitely coming back here when I get my own place. They have those adorable kitschy cat clocks with the moving tail and eyes and I love vintage ads. :) The man who owns this store is very helpful. I liked how he wasn't condescending and didn't treat us badly just because we weren't buying. I think he owns the store with his wife and he called her to ask about a piece. It was very sweet. He seems like a delightful person, and this is a delightful little store. read more

Our wall clock needed a replacement motor. Tried getting one from Michael's but they didn't sell the exact shaft size that I needed. Searched yelp and found this shop was close to my home so decided to check it out and see if they had the exact size I needed. Walked in this store has tons and tons of unique and awesome looking clocks. The owner was very friendly and helpful and helped changed out the defective clock motor and didn't charge extra. He showed my kids around his store and also showed us one of his favorite old collectors clock that was really cool. Its been over a month now and our clock is still working great. If I ever need a clock repaired, I'll be sure to return. read more

Recently, we bought a clock in Texas, paid a small fortune to have it shipped home, and then our daughters decided to check it out while it was waiting to go up on the wall. I've had Nile repair my clocks over the years and his service has declined abysmally. Most recently, we brought a clock in for cleaning and repair in January and he promised completion within 3 weeks. After the next six months, our patience and his excuses both grew slim. Finally our clock was returned in August, no more accurate than when we dropped it off. While he seems to be a nice person, he's a terrible businessman. His endless excuses are intolerable. Unfortunately the proprietor of this business has no customer service skills and comes up with lies and excuses. We took our cuckoo clock in for repair in 2012 (yes three years ago!). It was a family heirloom, quite old, passed down from an aunt who lived to be 107 years old. My kids threw a frisbee at it, so it had to be repaired. Upon a recommendation, we took it to this shop. He quoted us a price, for repair and said it would only take six weeks. We have literally been coming to his shop to ask about for three years, almost weekly. He says he is almost done. Today, he informed us that without the receipt he didn't know what we were talking about. So I called his bluff, called home and got the invoice number. I gave him that information. He took about 20 minutes in the back, came back out, and told us his "student" must have misplaced it in the box. I think, this being an antique (and of course I have no proof) that he fixed it and sold it himself. The clock was worth quite a bit of money (we're talking at least a couple of thousand). I'm upset, my husband is upset, because every week he told my husband he was still working on it, and to check back in a couple of weeks. We have done this, each and every time. Now he tells us he will check with his "student' to see where they misplaced it. I don't think there's a student. I think he sold our antique clock and I'm disheartened that someone would lie and tell us misinformation. We trusted him. Never again.
