When…read moreGrandma reached the point where she was needing 24-7 care, and Mom (her caregiver) desperately needed sleep, we didn't know what to do. Acting on a recommendation, I called Visiting Angels and talked to Stacey. As a result, help came fast in the form of indeed, a visiting angel. The way they operated was Stacey and Nurse Mary visited with Mom and Grandma to assess what was needed. Night-time help was what Mom was desperate for and Stacey offered up another Stacey who was the most incredible visiting angel. Grandma loved her from the first night. They bonded immediately. We never thought Grandma would be so comfortable with a non-family member caring for her, but I could only relieve Mom so much as I work full-time. Caregiver Stacey would come on-time as scheduled, and be johnny-on-the-spot (as Grandma put it) when Grandma called out for her all night long (which was often). There were times during this period of time where I was desperately seeking advice on how to ease Grandma's suffering. I called Manager Stacey who is the world's best listener, and also talked with Nurse Mary who is full of knowledge and compassion. I'm telling you, these folks care. Fast forward to a little over a month later and Grandma is no longer with us. I was awed that Visiting Angel Stacey not only came to the Memorial Service, but brought a thoughtful gift and heartfelt card. So if you're wondering who to trust to care for someone you love, know there are indeed angels out there. Ones that will visit and care for your loved one as only you can. Yes you will pay for this. At first, it seemed odd, but then thought I guess they want to confirm that I am who I say I am. Friday morning Dee arrived. Sat herself down and started talking and talking (mostly about herself). After about 90 minutes, I was totally confused and told her I had to leave for a doctor's appt. She was surprised I hadn't been told it was a 2 hour meeting. Dee hurriedly gave me some forms to complete so I questioned her several times if I was signing up for anything. She assured me no! Then, because I had to leave, she said she would stop by for financial info. Now it is definitely seeming weird. Well, here she comes the next day and wants my bank account info. Long story short: Around 4:00 pm, 15 days from my surgery I get a text asking for the name and number of my surgeon. I was shocked!!! I explained I never requested service: I had to be in Durham by 6 am and yet they had me scheduled for 8-5 care at $42/hr. (I'm sure there was a method to their madness, waiting until almost the close of business to contact me. If I hadn't seen that text late on the 15th day, they would have taken the full amount for 9 hours at $42 an hour from my bank account. They tried to scam me out of a huge amount of money, plus considering they have no medical credits, why did they want to talk to a very busy surgeon? I then emailed the head of the agency: no response: which told me a lot about them. I am now going to contact the agency that licenses them. They should not be allowed to be in business. I appreciated that they didn't require a 4hr minimum like most other places. I just needed a couple of hrs 3 days a wk to give me a break. The 2 caregivers we had were wonderful and my Mom looked forward to them coming. I especially loved the website where I could check to see what she had eaten and what they had done. That was a great help. The owner, Kathy, was wonderful to work with as well. Unfortunately my mom needed more help after a hospital stay and we had to go to a nursing facility. The caregiver assigned to my Dad was kind and attentive, and it didn't end there. The owner even came to Dads house and noticed his porch railing was missing. He told Dad it was a risk with Dad rolling around in that deck in his wheelchair with no safety fence or rail. Next thing I know I show up and there was a rail attached to the house and enclosing the porch. I ask Dad when did you have this done ? Dad proceeded to tell me that the owner of Affordable Family Care Services showed up with his son and father and they installed railing all around the porch. Didn't charge us and did it out of the kindness of their heart. Great company that I'd highly recommend.

I was then assigned to another FNP during which time I had questions about the level of my care, because I felt my best interest was not being met, as my Primary Care Physician. After all, there were times when I needed help or requested referrals, but it was met with denials. Once I started voicing my displeasure with my medical care. An incident occurred that I felt was handled by the FNP that was very unprofessional and handled in a demeaning manner. I voiced my opinion regarding it, and shortly afterwards, I received a letter telling me that I had to find another physician in 30 days because I was not in agreement with my medical care.

I hate prescription medication and she's been willing to allow me to make lifestyle changes rather than just handing out prescription after prescription. TERRIBLE BILLING PRACTICES!!!!…read more One of the first bills I received was shockingly high (It was the first bill we received after 7-8 months of services). I went through the line items and found that they billed me for a service that my son was not receiving. I reached out to the billing department and they acknowledged that there was a billing error and corrected the bill. We switched providers because they were unable to provide services at my son's school. Several months after discontinuing services we received a bill from them for several random dates of service from the past. We expressed our frustration with the delayed bill in September and thought that our account was settled then. To our astonishment, we just received another bill for services rendered 11 MONTHS AGO! My household receives bills from dozens of different providers. These bills arrive within ~30 days of services rendered with the only exception being Raleigh Therapy Services. When billing is delayed by so long it makes it difficult for personal accounting and creates stress and anxiety because amongst several recent medical bills, it is an unexpected expense. I had to spend the entire day yesterday combing through records from RTS and my insurance company to try to understand why I was receiving a claim 11 months after services were rendered and to try to understand if I would be receiving any future bills (which there are still 2 more claims that haven't been processed). I have worked as a health care provider billing insurance for medical services as well as my current position at a medical software billing company. I understand that insurance issues can be very frustrating and sometimes take several phone calls to resolve. The provider we switched to, K&M Therapeutics, billed for the same service (plus a new one) and we received bills monthly starting 30 days from service and they were billing the same insurance companies. It seems like they need to hire an adjudication claims specialist to have someone dedicated to trouble shooting these issues so that they can be resolved in a timely manner. My son really liked the therapists at RTS..... this is just a billing inefficiency issue leading to a poor customer experience. I believe it can be fixed if they want to put the effort into trying to.

The therapists meet him at his school during regular school hours, which saves us a lot of hassle and time. Our son loves seeing his therapists. He has had such a positive experience. The improvement in his speech is remarkable, and he has gone from hating holding any writing instrument to drawing, coloring, and practicing letters and numbers. Amazing! We are so grateful for all Raleigh Therapy Services has done for our son.
