My mom now resides at the Gardens at Wakefield Plantation senior living apartment complex and we needed a new general medical practice near by for her. We found Avance Primary Care while searching online. Their staff and care reviews were excellent and appt days and times seemed very easily accessible so we called. That very first phone conversation with the receptionist (unfortunately I didn't write down her name :/ it may have been Victoria??) was extremely warm and patient and helpful as I explained mom's needs. She listened carefully and asked thoughtful questions and recommended Dr. Lam. (Mom had definitely not been exactly keen on this whole new doctor plan and had been dragging her feet for a very long time.) Upon entering the office we were immediately greeted cheerfully and warmly by Anthony and Shirley at the front desk. They definitely put mom at ease throughout the check in process with their easy lighthearted banter and professionalism. Anthony directed us to a private computer cubby and very patiently explained how to fill out all the new patient forms electronically. Medical Assistant, Cierra, brought us back to the exam room and completed the initial assessment and vitals with just as easy and welcoming and professional manner. She was also very caring and thoughtful and concerned as I expressed some thoughts about mom with her privately. Dr. Lam came in and from the moment she stepped into the room she worked some magic and absolutely engaged mom from the get go! She was smart, insightful, caring, respectful, and gently got right to the heart of mom's needs while addressing and calming her fears and concerns. We made follow up appts with Dr. Lam and two of their other on site health care practitioners to additionally address mom's varied needs. She also set up referrals to two other outside practitioners in the area for more specialized health care needs. We feel we definitely made the right choice! Mom expressed that she would feel very comfortable going to see them on her own for any care she may need!! Thank you to the whole staff for a wonderful first experience! Got to love when a doctor says "if you need to take more than one that's okay" so you run out of your medication 3 days early, because 3 times I had to take it more than once. Had it documented even when I did, why I did it, even what time I did it. They didn't care, they told me "you shouldn't have taken that many" again, after being told "you can take more than one if needed" it wasn't like I ran out 2 weeks early, no I ran out 3 days early and because of all of that, I chose to find a new doctor and cancelled my appointments. Imagine my surprise when I get a certified letter today from this place saying "we are terminating care for the following reasons" - abuse of prescriptions - verbal abuse of staff Ummmm.... Are you kidding me right now? I agree I was a little.... Extra when it came to arguing with them over this situation but for them to now label me as an "prescription abuse" I'll play absolute HELL trying to get a doctor to do anything for my anxiety that this place was treating me for. So for them to put that in my medical record was so uncalled for over 3 extra pills in 30 days, that I was TOLD WAS OKAY TO DO... just to be turned around and labeled a prescription abuser. I honestly and whole heartedly believe that they did it out of spite and revenge and that's exactly what I'll be telling the attorney I talk to on Monday because to me, they purposely did it just because I terminated services with them. Little strange that I tell them I'm terminating services, cancelled my appointments, 40 days later I get a letter claiming "we are terminating you for prescription abuse" yeah, they absolutely did this out of spite and anger for me ripping into them for essentially lying to me and saying one thing while knowing full well what they'd say if I ran out early. Again, I ran out 3 days early, day 27, technically one day before I could legally get them, and that's prescription abuse? Yeah... I sense some shade in the water and hurt in the booty. I'm sure a lawyer will agree since what they just essentially did was malpractice since now I'll struggle for the rest of my life to get care for my VERY WELL DOCUMENTED BY MULTIPLE DOCTORS, severe anxiety. If anyone is familiar with the GDA-7, my avg score is always 15-20 or, In medical terms "severe and debilitating anxiety" and they labeled me an abuser? Shouldn't be hard to get the meds I need now, not at all. I highly recommend against going here lest you want to be labeled a drug addict for running out of your meds TECHNICALLY 1 day early and then suffering for the rest of your life for it just because they got spiteful. I'm not going to take this laying down. Worst thing I ever did was trust anyone at this practice, second worst thing I ever did was take the meds like they told me I could and the third worst thing was ever going back. So please tell me if it makes sense that I tell them I'm terminating services effective immediately and cancelled all my appointments and follow ups, then to receive a letter over a month later saying essentially "we are terminating you for being a drug addict and abusing your scripts even though they have zero proof i abused anything, mistook anything. Nothing.... Just weird that this all comes over a month later. Highly suggest you stay as far away as possible. I'll come back and update this review after I speak with an attorney and let you guys know (the readers not the practice) what they had to say about this situation. Oh the kicker to this? This letter comes and arrives less than 2 weeks after an appointment was listed in my medical records for a psychiatrist appointment.... Which again? Makes me think even more this was done purely out of spite because I called them on their malarkey. Id have given zero stars but that was not a choice, I'd prefer they give me a star actually, for this public service announcement that this place is trash, will treat you like trash and then label you trash and go somewhere else because you don't appreciate the label of "trash" anymore. Again, this will not be taken laying down, not now, not tomorrow, next week or year, not EVER. TL;DR STAY AS FAR AWAY AS POSSIBLE, you'll get a better level of care in a state run old folks home. read more

Their billing department is horrible -terrible people. I scheduled an appointment as a new member to Avance Care - a new patient for physical. When I arrived, I mentioned the concerns I've had. When the bill came, it was noted for problems (they didn't actually treat anything) rather than a physical. Contacted the insurance company, who relayed to reach back out to Avance Care and request to have them change the insurance submission code for physical. After several promises and engaging their billing people, which appear to be overseas, no one did anything. I'm tired of contacting them, and it's been weeks now, but they keep sending their bill. I had terrible experience there with the PA Ms Thompson. I went there for my Physical and I did paps smear because I've been recommended to do it annually. While I though I was having a normal conversation on why I'm having the paps smear again since I did it last year (I'm surprised the PA didn't know anything about my medical history) I was told at the end of the visit that I'm billed $100 because I discussed with her about the Pap smear. I never had this experience before that I would go for my physical and got billed at the end of it because of a conversation related to the annual Pap smear and she kept participating in. Then I called the front desk to dispute the bill and they said call billing so I called the billing department. Then the billing department told me to talk to the office manager and the manager told me a bunch of lies the PA told her such as she warned me if I was about to continue discussing this they would bill me or I should schedule another office visit to discuss more but the truth is she never said anything like that and all she did was to bill me at the end. They don't care if the patient thinks the bill is unfair. They come back to me without any resolutions but lies. I wish I never went there for my physical. I have no idea how the Drs are but as far as the people that make the phone calls, they get a complete 0!!!! When my insurance company called these people to make sure that they take my insurance, they said yes. Then I did the online paperwork with my insurance information and they just called me and said they don't except my insurance. Avance made a big deal about being open on Sunday for COVID testing. Before the test I was told results in 12 - 24 hours. AFTER the swab was taken I was told 2-3 BUSINESS days. So what is the point of doing this on Sunday? Aside from billings. read more

I have a very complicated medical history, and as such, it is almost too well documented due to the amount of paperwork required to get a new doctor up to speed. After a recent move to the area, I started shopping for PCP that can play quarterback for all my specialists, nothing I haven't had to do before. And the job surely isn't for everyone. But Dr. Manuel Bulauitan went out of his way to be rude to me during the follow-up to my initial visit, stating that he can't "verify" that I'm experiencing certain symptoms so doesn't feel comfortable being my PCP -- symptoms that can be verified by the medical history it took me 2mos to send him, or the tests that the endocrinologist or neurologist to whom he referred me did. He was truly a patient's worst nightmare. The position of PCP for someone like me isn't for everyone as it requires homework. But the unnecessary rudeness exhibited by Dr. Bulauitan was unbecoming and gives doctors everywhere a bad name. read more

I met with Dr. Burton for my yearly physical. I have been a patient for years and as always he did an excellent job. He answered all of my questions and provided me with the medications that I needed. He explained all of his decisions about my health and made me feel that I had a part in his decision making so I had buy in. I would highly recommend him to anybody that needs a family practitioner. read more
