The atmosphere was fun and light, lots of talking so definitely a great place for a big group. There is plenty of parking, we ate inside but there was a nice outdoor patio as well. The food was all great, nothing outstanding but everything tasty enough! We shared some apps and between our group ordered just about everything on the menu and no one left disappointed. I came back a second time and SoLou did not disappoint! A new colleague was with me and we were blessed with Lauren this evening. Shelby actually came by, said hello, and even checked on us during our meal even though we weren't her table. The food was incredible. My Steak Frites (I substituted the Brussels Sprouts for their tallow fried potatoes...I know, how can someone do that...but the sprouts are really good!) were amazing. The chimichurri was a delicious sauce to pair the steak with, very balanced. The steak itself was succulent, tender, and cooked to a perfect medium rare. I was here for a business dinner while in town but this would most definitely be my place for date nights with my wife if I lived here. The service is amazing, the food is incredible, and the prices are affordable. You know how sometimes you get poor service when you don't order an appetizer or you skip the cocktails and wine? My guest and I came here for the first time to enjoy a quick graduation brunch. Ambiance: The lighting in the restaurant is dim and intimate relying on the open windows to add a touch of highlights to the shadows. Blues, greens, browns, golds and white makeup the color scheme of the restaurant giving it a sophisticated and moody ambiance. The Good: Our waitress Maggie was professional, friendly and accommodating! Her kind demeanor actually helped offset the not so great portion of the experience. The not-so-great: I'm vegan therefore choose not to eat anything containing animal products. That means no meat, dairy, etc. (yes that includes seafood, Louisianians) I had hoped to try their Zydeco cauliflower appetizer to eat alongside a salad but unfortunately, they were out. I'd attempted to order a side of truffle fries, but they're fried in animal fat. We almost left but my guest was really excited for the chicken and waffles, so we stayed. Maggie also threw in a graduation spread with sparklers and a donut for good measure. Future Suggestions : Vegan/ Vegetarian menu items besides salad. Take those fried cauliflower and throw them on a sandwich or salad and you've got a filling meal with ingredients you already have on the menu. The service was good, the staff were friendly. This restaurant needs to close their doors until they learn how to operate as a reservation restaurant. The young black lady at the front of the restaurant working as a hostess needs to be fired or train her how to act as the first person we see at your restaurant. Very rude for what reason? We had a reservation and we should not have had to ask when will you be able to honor my 8:00 reservation. She made the comment she was getting weak dealing with the night etc etc.... beside her manager mind you. Do not take reservations, you need to ask Louisiana Lagnippe how they do it because their restaurant is amazing. We had to leave SoLou becasue they had no idea when they would be able to seat us and we had a reservation. We ended up having to get another Uber to leave without food so we went to Rocca pizzeria and it was amazing. I will be following up with the manger, General manager and hopefully owner to give full details on how horrible we were treated because we are white. read more

Not for everyone with a somewhat limited menu but the food is great, service is outstanding and they give you free pig skins as soon as you sit down. They have really good hamburgers, double patties and delicious fries. But they are too big. Most people might not complain about hamburgers being too big but a senior citizen like myself might wish for smaller buns. They have a nice bar you have to pass when you first walk into SoLou. Most times I prefer eating at the bar. I suggest you order a SmashBurger to start off and then continue down the menu. You won't be disappointed. read more

In my attempt to try a new restaurant for brunch I was disappointed, after receiving poor service, unsatisfactory drinks and no food. While sitting at only a half seated bar we were not greeted, given water or had order taken for over 10 minutes. After a drink order was taken we still waiting very long to receive them and the tastes did not match the cocktail description. We even witnessed our bartender Treat another guests completely opposite of us and prioritized them by immediately giving them drinks, menús and cutlery. The truffle mac and cheese was exceptionally well-prepared and flavorful. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich, which was both satisfying and full of flavor. The service amazing. My friends and I went for restaurant week and had their boudin arancini for appetizers for the boudin there were a couple pieces of rice that were slightly undercooked. My friend had seafood bolognese and I had the beef short rib. The seafood bolognese was 4/5. For the beef short rib I give it a 4/5 also the short rib was really tender and the corn grits that came with it paired nicely with the ribs. For dessert it was the peanut butter pie. In my opinion it was a little too sweet so I think the slight sourness of the raspberries jam is meant to help with the sweetness of the pie. But overall I think it was still a bit too sweet so if you have a sweet tooth I think you would enjoy it. Also with the boudin the manager apologized about the quality and even gave a slight discount. Regardless if discount was given or not I loved the attitude of the manager and the waitress I had. Overall I think the experience is 3.5 star but 4 star rounded up because they have amazing service. We came on a Sunday afternoon around 3. We made a reservation but didn't need one. I loved the vibe and beautiful patio. It would be a great happy hour hangout. They gave us pork rinds as snack before our meal. We enjoyed the holiday themed cocktails but I wish we would have tried the regular ones. I ordered the steak and my husband the salmon. My mom and I went on a weekday this time for brunch. Mom loves the sweet potato pancakes. A waitress once told me she steers people away from them because they can be hit or miss but both times my mom liked them. I got the shrimp po-boy which has a yummy but non-traditional sauce on it. The food is southern Louisiana, which I love because no other restaurant is really like this in town. When you first sit down you get pork grinds for the table. They are ok, not really my favorite. The Strawberry Hill is delicious... it's sweet with a little punch of alcohol. For an appetizer, we got the Hot Crab Dip and we ate it all, even had to request more bread for dipping. The dip came out very hot and is a tad bit spicy. For the entree, I got the fish in a bag, it sounds terrible, but it's actually so good! It comes out in a parchment bag, but once you take everything out, it looks much better! The gulf fish was covered with seasoning and the vegetable that are in the bag with it also have the seasoning on it. I am a fan of spices, so this dish was right up my alley. I didn't like the corn side dish, but I was so full after the fish I didnt really need anything else. My friend ordered the chicken, and after 20 minutes after our order they tell us that they are our, wish we had more of a heads up on this, so she got the fish tacos instead, which were so good. My mom got the filet and again had great remarks. We wanted to try the s'mores dessert, but again, after 20 minutes of waiting for it, they tell us that they no longer have the graham crackers for it. My husband and I were there late on a Sunday evening just for a snack. It wasn't overcrowded or noisy. We sat at the bar to have drinks and appetizers. You get a complementary serving of chicharrones (fried pork rinds) if you want them. They were fresh and yummy! The apps were delicious. We had the crab dip and spicy cauliflower. The service here is AMAZING!!! I will 100% say that this place is one of the more aesthetically pleasing places to eat in Baton Rouge. Everything up to the chairs are so beautiful. We started off our meal with a happy hour and I got the rose bowl which was sooo good and they are not stingy with the alcohol! Some friends and I went to brunch here on Saturday morning. We had a reservation and was sat immediately. There are two dining areas. One inside and one outside. We chose to sit outside. It was a nice day and they had fans so there was a constant breeze. Service was great. All of the staff there are super friendly and helpful! They all work as a team! Our Waiter Noah was friendly. He made our visit pleasant. Food didn't disappoint. We ordered a few appetizers. Crab dip which was really good. Boudin queso which savory!! We also tried the spinach and artichoke dip. Went to brunch at SoLou to celebrate my best friend's birthday. The staff was very accommodating and sat our party although everyone hadn't arrived. The decor is modern, plush and inviting. Our servers were so attentive. I started with a White Espresso Rose Martini which reminded of a white chocolate martini. We also ordered the Champagne bar a few times ($30) and they did not disappoint. The sweet potato pancakes were good, but I didn't taste the sweet potato flavor. The beignet puffs were light and delicious. The Creole Egg Bowl stole the show for me! Unfortunately the Frozen Julep Freeze was only available on-the-rocks, but it was pretty good. The salmon was cooked to perfection and seasoning was on point! We ended the night with some cheesecake that had pecans, mouthwatering!
