Haven't been to the winery yet, but I am A BIG FAN of their FianoEstate white! HOLY WHOA to the tasting experience! I am not kidding when I say that just a slight swirl under your nose and you are transported to a childhood moment when your Grandma puts fresh waffles in front of you a drizzles warm maple syrup all around! The aroma will captivate you! I was thinking there was no way my boyfriend was going to like it. It smelled heavy and sweet. OH CONTRARE! We both looked at each other with a mouth full of Fiano as we swished it around... eyebrows up in delight! What a light and crisp white wine!! Not too sweet and actually a dry finish. I had to have two "tastings" of it to really grasp what I was experiencing. We couldn't buy bottles that day because it was a tasting as a part of the Los Gatos Wine Walk... so we got directions from the Solis Rep and he drew little stars for us on our map and everything. We will be there! YUM YUM YUM! This wine is most definitely a conversation piece for dinner parties. See you there! read more

Poor customer service really overpowered the great wines. Tastings are $5 a person. You get a $5 coupon towards a bottle of wine, so you technically get it back if you purchase something. Our tasting leader was fabulous. I was feeling a bit tipsy and didn't want to do the full course. She turned me on to Port Wine, which was fabulous. I purchased a bottle of port and their Rosé. The problems came when we purchased the wine. I had visited their website the night before and received a coupon good for 50% off my entire purchase. When I presented it, the person working the register literally yelled at me and told me that this was a one-time only coupon. He told me that my whole party "had better make one purchase, because it's only going to be used once". He was extremely pissed off when I told him that we were separate from our grandparents. Little did he know, my grandparents had also signed up and would be using their own coupon. He didn't give them too much of a hassle, for some reason. The patio area is beautiful. They have a huge cat, named Mary, who is very sweet. There is a gorgeous fountain and a small picnic area on the side of the winery. We came back and had lunch there. Mary will come right up and "ask" for food! The fact that the company didn't want to honor a coupon they hosted on their own site turned me off from them. Their wine was very reasonably priced, and it was delicious. However, I don't appreciate being yelled at in front of a room full of people. read more

had to yelp not because of one bad experience, but multiple bad experiences at this winery- all negative. I have been asked to not eat at the counter (chocolate purchased at Solis), not laugh, been scolded to keep it down when sitting outside laughing, and even had the doors shut with the staff shaking her head/rolling her eyes at our group. we are a group of professionals/culturally diverse enjoying a friday off, nothing inappropriate at all. sadly everyone in our group has felt the same negativity from staff. this must just not be the right fit for any of us, so we wont be returning. they are losing a large group and being in a service industry should treat people better. we wont be returning to Solis and hope everyone else has a experience. read more

We have been members of Solis Winery for several years. If you live in San Jose, they are just a quick zip away in Gilroy so its a wonderful afternoon scenic get away. The team is always warm and welcoming and I understand they grow, harvest, produce and offer tastings all right there. (Most others outsource grapes.) The Vino Roseo di Sangiovese is one of my favorites and I can't wait for my next shipment! read more

My wife and I paid Solis a visit a few weeks back. To vary the mix we tried both the paid and the free tastings. The merlot, the cab, and the Meritage were fabulous. While the free tastings were not as spectacular they were often very, very good. I particularly enjoyed the Syrah and the Sangiovese. (I think that one of the other reviewers of this winery here just doesn't like Gilroy wine. I disagree most strongly with their assessment of the winery on every level. They complain about the free tasting vs. paid - I simply cannot understand the short sited view. The free wines were very, very nice. And the paid tasting for $5 included the glass. How many wineries in Napa do that, eh?) The staff was quite friendly and helpful. We take our time at tastings - we had a lot of fun talking with them. We were even given some lovely Gazpacho soup - we were initially nervous that it might interfere with the wine - it did not. It was such a nice touch. The nicely appointed tasting room has a beautiful view of the vineyards and of the hills. We'll be back - and maybe with a picnic! read more

We came last Saturday with our 2 young and well-behaved children for a nice day out to be dressed up and feel special: and if you've had children before then you know those days are rare to come by while your children are young. We purchased an expensive bottle of wine and spent almost $100 on food at the food truck there. Halfway through our meal a staff member, who'd seen our children there for almost and hour and my son had gone inside with my husband to purchase the wine, they now came to tell us(in front of everyone) that we needed to move to the family area(while our kids were being quiet and well-behaved). It was so embarrassing and I was devastated because it's incredibly rare that we get to have a day like that and it was tainted for me. I did see one very small "No Children" sign, but it was attached to a gazebo on the right-hand side of the venue and so I figured there were no children allowed in there. They do allow many dogs though which is silly to me. The family area consists of one old wooden picnic table out back (under a tree which is nice) next to the loud AC unit. We won't be coming back or recommend this place to others, because of the lack of hospitality and it seems that you have to be rich and snobby or "know people" to have a good time here, which is a shame because it is a beautiful area. read more

This past weekend some friend and family of mine rented a tour bus and visited all of the participating wineries for Passport weekend. Solis Winery was our first stop. I'm in love with this adorable winery! Everyone was very kind and the wine was delicious! They had a special on a red and a white that was pretty tasty.. the price was great, 2 for $20.00.... SOLD! I also tried their new Port, my mother and mother in law loved the Port too so we had to buy them a bottle as well. I'll be back, this place was great! read more

Hubby and I came here for a nice afternoon wine tasting yesterday. With our Groupon in hand we got there around 4:30pm. Groupon was handled without any problems. We picked out our wine after. Since they were closing at 5pm they suggested that we are more than welcome to stay out in the deck, drink wine if we want and we can even use their wine glasses..."just leave them on the table before you leave" they said. We did just that. We took our cheese and crackers and sat out on the deck. They locked the tasting room, left for the day but nice enough to leave the music for us. We loved it! read more

Solis has a funky little tasting room that (this may be a stretch) reminds me of going down into a wine barrel... if I had ever been in a wine barrel... anyway, they were happy to talk to us and were by far the friendliest group we encountered over the Passport Weekend wine tasting. I spent plenty of time with a nice man handing out Barrel tastings and he seemed thrilled by my interest in the process, which made me in-turn thrilled with barrels. The wines themselves were 'creative' (they weren't kidding when they said the Sangiovese had undercurrents of mushrooms!) but the overall joviality of the place won us over. read more

This place is a mixed bag. Some of their wines are downright awful with a porty smell to them. Others were were pretty good. I liked the '02 Estate Sangiovese quite a bit and I also bought the '02 SCV Merlot. The tasting room faces out onto the vineyards were they grow the Sangiovese and it is a beautiful view. But, the tasting area itself could do with a remodel. First off, it is next to the restrooms which you can smell while you are tasting. Next the bar is lined with padding the covering of which is cracked and is covered with duct tape. read more

We reserved a group tasting for my birthday party wine tasting adventure and Solis was amazing. Heather & Tara made our whole group feel at home out on the patio, where all our guests were able to enjoy the delicious wines poured very professionally. I was amazed at how they were able to keep track of all 21 of our guests, even when some were playing Corn Hole on the grass! :) This place has excellent wine, my favorite this time around was the rose. Solis helped make our wedding day a success! We chartered a couple of busses so that we could show-off some of our Gilroy wineries to our family and friends. Solis is one of our favorites for their wine, their warm staff, and the steals they have when you buy a case of wine. Our guests were wowwed with Solis and the explanation that Bill gave to them about wine making in the cellar. I believe quite a few guests purchased some bottles of wine. One of my cousins bought us a bottle of Muscat--one of our favorites. I think the only lament that our friends and family may have is that they don't live here in Gilroy in close proximity to the wineries with the friendliest crew! As a side note, we are members of Solis and love celebrating at their wine releases. Richard always whips up a little something to eat go to along with our wine. We're very much looking forward to an upcoming event that involves port and cigars. How can you go wrong with that? read more

Great place for wine tasting. I've been here a couple of times and customer service is always on point. They make you feel very welcomed and they take the time to describe the different pallets in each wine you try. They have a cute outdoor seating area with a water fountain and an amazing view of the mountains. It's a great place to come and have a glass of wine. They also allow outdoor food for a picnic. The view was lovely, sitting out on the back porch with our tasting glasses. The tasting room itself is nothing spectacular and the service was a pretty uninspired. But if you are looking for a pit-stop that includes a comfy place to lounge with a few sips of wine and a scenic view, Solis ain't bad. The wines were not great. We bought a bottle of Merlot, which was quite decent in the tasting room but totally off when we opened it at home. Bummer. read more

If you are a fan of Syrah, you must stop by Solis and have their 2005 Syrah! It is so good that our family orders this wine by the case and it's an all time favorite by guests and friends! This is the perfect location to grab a bottle, sip on some wine and relax at their patio. I sat there for hours this past weekend and what a blast! Perfect weather, a nice glass of their 2005 Cara Mia and I was a happy camper! Their wines are delicious! and the service is great. I came about discovering this winery due to my aunt being a member, and trying their wines at a family function, then a few months later, BOOM, I met Mike, one of the owners at the Santa Clara University Vintage Alumni event, and had more of their great wines. Solis Winery has some really great white wines! Their reds are more in the 3-3.5 star range, but overall, good value wines. The tasting room is small, but very cozy and warm. The people here are very friendly and allow you to taste as many wines as you'd like! For $5 tastings, this place is very affordable. They also have deals from time to time on certain vintages when bought by the case. You can sit outside and enjoy the scenery of the vineyard, or even walk around the vineyard. I've also been here for a barrel tasting event, and loved the food pairings they did with it. They had truffle oil brushed roasted mushrooms and brie on baguette. The wines are delicious both from the barrel and after bottled! I'd definitely come here again when in Gilroy. read more

Great relaxing place to sit back and enjoy the scenery and a nice glass of wine. A very non formal and casual place to visit and take a break. I like that you can bring your own little picnic and sit outside on their patio area while overlooking the vineyard. They had a great sale on their Cara Mia cases and I managed to snag a case for myself. They do not ship to Hawaii, but we found a way to get it over. The staff was very friendly and I loved the little cupcake that came with Port as the final taste. If you're ever in Gilroy, I recommend a quick stop and look around. read more

Our first stop of our Gilroy day trip and it was where we had tastings of 7 wines. A quaint tasting room with focus on wines and some jar sauces. They did have food that day, but it was set up for wine "passport" holders, which we are not. And we felt kind of left out, not knowing we walked into that special event for that weekend. So it was a tease to say the least. Our male wine sommelier was kind enough to let us know that there's 2 passport event occurrence in that region (April and October, one weekend each) and the best time to purchase the "passport" (around $30) is in April to take full advantage of the usage. Back to the wines, I liked 3 wines out of 7 offerings, which is a great thing since sometimes you go to wineries and don't enjoy any of them. Their wines also won some silver and bronze awards. My faves tastings are: Fiano, Cab Sangiovese, and Port. The other offerings were Chardonnay, Muscat, Merlot, and can't remember what the last bottle was. It was easy drinking wines, but not the "wow" I'm looking for. I'm more into robust flavors. It really deserves 3.5 stars, but the whole food thing knocked off the 1/2 star for me to round it up. read more

We have been here a few times and it is definitely worth a stop if you are in the area. Their wine is decent, but their best option is the Port. If you love Ports, this is actually worth making a trip for. As for the winery grounds, they have a nice little grass area and a deck with umbrellas for a picnic. The tasting room is modern and clean. It is not really kid friendly - the tasting room for sure....outdoors, maybe. We have also been here for their bottling events. This is a very fun event and the wine they bottle is a great table wine that is very affordable. Good crowd and decent bands for these events as well. read more

The wine is very good here!!! I love the rose and their seducenta (think that's how it's spelled). It was $10 for 5 tastings...a bit pricey compared to the $5 tasting around this area, but at least you can use that $10 towards a purchase of a bottle. I made Solis the first stop on my marathon day of wine-tasting, during the Santa Clara Valley's Passport weekend. For no other reason than geography, we decided to go to the wineries on Hecker Pass Rd, making our way north as the day continued. At about 11:15, we were the first ones in the tasting room, and the staff greeted us very warmly. The tasting room is relatively spacious, and the back deck overlooks the vineyards and the mountains to the south. Not bad. A cute kitty was sunning itself, asking to get pet, so I did. They poured a literal glass of their chardonnay, and a huge chunk of cheese...very generous, but I had a long day ahead of me, so although I enjoyed the wine, even though I don't usually go for Chardonnay, I had to pour most of it out. They also did a barrel tasting of their Sangiovese blend, which was okay, but lacked some fruit for my taste. Similarly, the Cabernet I sampled did not blow me away. Of what I tried, I didn't feel compelled to own anything, so it was off to the next stop. read more

This a fantastic little winery. Super friendly staff, amazing view and a nice selection of wines to choose from. Very affordable. Library wines - Sangiovese and Cabernet were excellent! the servers are fake AF. They acted like we were their favorite but they didn't remember us AT ALL. they sold us a 30$ bottle of wine. 30$!!! I have been a wine club member for over a year, they have wonderful events and really nice owners. So lets start with when we came in it was thee best welcome.. we did the tasting inside at the bar with niel. And it was great they offered us cheese and salami to go with our wines (which we paid for) so we are doing the tasting we get down to the last tasing and one of there employees (that wasn't even around us the whole time decided to tell us that all of a sudden we weren't allowed to eat at the bar (while nobody else had a problem with it). We were really included to join the membership and purchase wines...BUT THIS EMPLOYEE(a younger female) Decides to ruin our experience right before we were going to spend our money here.... she seemed to be the only one with a problem of us finishing our tasting inside because we had what we purchased there with us while nobody else had a problem with it.... so unprofessional and to be a first time taster there not gonna go back to an experience like this... I like the views and I like the rose' wine, I have been there a couple of times and the service goes from good to not so good. I really do not mind paying for wine tasting and I do enjoy the location in gilroy. If you like wines and can wait for some service sometimes then its okay. I have to agree with Jessica R. I am floored to see the 1 Star reviews and the trash talk about Bill. We have been wine club members for years. Solis Winery is a gem in South County and the service, like their wine, has always been spectacular. "Barrel Bill", as he is known to people who have actually been to the tasting room more than once (1 star yelpers, how many times have you been there?), is a charismatic, intelligent guy. He is one of the main reasons people enjoy their time in the tasting room and at winery events.Always a smile and a laugh. Any business can get a "rush" of people. It seems like the staff did the best they could under the circumstances and scheduling by management. Certainly the wine speaks for it self, as noted in the reviews. Maybe the woman at the counter couldn't answer some questions. But my guess is she kept a cool head when dealing with pompous, arrogant, self proclaimed "professional yelpers". Perhaps if we put you in a room, with that many people, professing that much wine knowledge, you might not come across as the most gracious or intelligent host either. The winery is still a wonderful venue. Good wine, good prices. If you have never been there, it is worth the visit. Sadly, thanks to the 1 star yelpers, you will no longer get to meet "Barrel Bill". Have I visited Solis winery? No... and I never will. Why? I purchased a "Groupon" for $15 which was valid until November 6th. Included in the offer was two tastings and a bottle of wine. I didn't have a chance to use the certificate by the expiration date because I wasn't in the area until Nov. 12th. I phoned on the 10th to give them a heads up that I would be 6 days late using the certificate. You would think that in a family-owned & run business like this, they would have some common sense and honor the certificate. I was told they would only honor it for the 2 tastings, and not the bottle of wine. One of the owners said he would talk it over with his brother and call me back, but he never did. So on Nov. 12th while I was tasting at Clos la Chance winery (15 minutes away) I called and said that I would guarantee to purchase a bottle of wine if they would honor the two tastings and bottle of wine, which as I say, I already paid $15 for. The woman I spoke with again said they were not going to honor my certificate, and not in a nice way either. So I'm out $15. I have had the experience of asking two other companies participating in Groupon offers to extend the date a few days, and guess what? Both were only too happy to do it. Why would anyone bother to make an offer like this if they would later alienate customers by being so inflexible? I can see if someone came in two months after the expiration, but 6 days??? Would be a 5 star but for the limited parking, 152 great location but that is because it is on a high traffic location, the bands set up with little dance area and that area is dips, grass , and roots. My husband called to cancel our wine club membership several weeks ago and they forgot to mention on the phone that in our contract it says we need written notification to cancel 30 days before or they will continue to charge for your monthly shipment. They charged us and refused to refund us even though they had told my husband our membership was cancelled. I am 8 months pregnant....what am I going to do with a shipment of wine? A large group of my friends and I went to Solis to celebrate a birthday. We arranged our tasting in advance so they could accommodate our group. They were so friendly and attentive. They had told us we would be able to set our our snacks and appetizers that we had brought with us, but we had decided to hold off for the next winery. We appreciated that they offered that to us however, because it was nice and warm inside. They even gave our friend a free tasting for her birthday. We enjoyed the tasting selection, in particular the Rose. Many of us purchased bottles, and we were given $10 off since we did tastings. Their grounds were pretty and they had tables with umbrellas as well as tables inside to congregate around. They take great photos too. :). Such nice people, we love supporting local wineries and they seemed very happy to have us there. read more
