We came here Saturday around 2:30pm. We had made reservations ahead of time. Jeff, the owner was the only person pouring wine that day. Even though it was busy with members picking up their release wines and other customers coming for wine tasing, he was still attentive and poured the wines in a timely manner. He also explained the wines that were poured. $20 tasting fee for 5 wines. Jeff also poured an extra cab that wasn't on the menu. The wines were pretty good. Bold and fruity or earthy. They waive the tasting fee if you buy 3 wines. A bit much to just waive 1 fee though. I don't think they serve food so might be ok to bring picnic or snack. Big outside seating area. I don't think they have indoor seating. read more

Such a cute winery! The grounds are very nice and have a bit of a rustic vibe to it. The outdoor area is nicely decorated with plants all around. They have few games out there to play. We arrived a bit early and they allowed us to sit outside and even started pouring for us before they opened. Super nice of them! The wines were really good. I really liked the white wine. They have a stone fire pizza oven and sometimes have pizza days which is pretty nice. The service was good and they were very friendly and even pointed us to few other wineries in the area. I would go back....hopefully when weather gets warmer because it was unusually cold...sun came out as we were leaving. read more

There was Pepper, a dog that roans around. The owner said it takes him awhile to warm up to people, but he kept me pet him. The spicy Pinot Noir was worth trying. Their Chardonnay was too buttery for me. I liked their blend. The outdoor atmosphere was great, but at first you are not sure you are ar the right place because it looks like a home. read more

Love their wine. Jeff does an excellent job; educated in wine making and it shows. lovely ambience, kid friendly, byo picnics is allowed ( there is a variety of crackers, cheese, etc for purchase and occasional pizza parties), clean and handicap accessible restrooms, corn hole, shady areas as well as sun. I have to say their wine is my favorite here in gilroy area. I know what tastes good to me and it's their wine. (We've tried many!) Chantal, Jeff's wife is invoked as well and just a lovely person. read more

My husband and I stopped by to taste the wines at the Stomping Ground. Calerrain stood out as some of the best wine we've tasted. All 3 wines that were offered were exceptional. The Cabernet Sauvignon is excellent, the Chardonnay lovely, and the Rose' will be perfect to enjoy this summer. We bought all 3 to take home and share with our friends! We made a reservation for a Sunday afternoon. There was free seating and lots of spaced out tables with umbrellas. A little bit off the beaten path and the winemakers home is in the front, but it is a very nice and large backyard. Very pretty and scenic. They were not doing tastings, only wine by the bottle or glass and so we got a bottle of the Rosé. The wine itself was quite good. Perfect for a warm summer afternoon. We also had the pleasure of meeting the wine maker who was chatting with the guest. Nice family feel. Definitely would recommend! read more

Great wine! The wine maker is usually around to tell you all about the wine. Lots of outdoor seating and they allow you to bring in a picnic. I didn't bring my kids this time, but will next time as there was a nice area for them to run around. read more

We attended a wine tasting at the Mountain Winery a couple weeks ago where about 15 wineries were pouring their wines. We were very impressed with the Chardonnay and the Pinot Noir poured by Calerrain. We visited their winery the following weekend and we were able to taste other varietals as well and we were even more impressed. Additionally, the winery servers we very kind and very knowledgeable of each wine. We learned they have functions from time to time to include pizza served from their on-site wood fired pizza oven. We couldn't wait to join their wine club. read more

Tried 3 wines during this years (2019) passport month. The Grenache Rose was crisp and light with a beautiful blush hue. Would make for a great drink on a relaxing summers day at the beach. My favorite of the 3 tastings. The Chardonnay was also crisp with an oaky smooth finish. The third tasting was the Malbec. My husband favored this particular wine. He purchased a bottle and it paired perfectly with Euphoria cheese. Great little winery with a farmhouse industrial motif. I will definitely be going back to this wine gem. read more

Such a great experience! The location is gorgeous, and wish I had captured a picture of their sign. Plenty of seating around the building. Dog friendly! Huge fan of their selections of wine. Only knock was the entry path surface. My wife was in a wheelchair and the dog was super soft. It was a challenge getting her through it, even when backing her through it. Super wine and the ambiance and service was superb. read more

Their wines are Outstanding. The 2017 Santa Clara Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is Excelent. The 2017 Santa Lucia Highlands Chardonnay is my favorite. Actually, there wasn't one wine that missed the mark. Calerrain is truly a hidden Gem. When we first drove to the vineyard we found the area to be so peaceful and beautiful. The moment you drive onto the property and park your car you get this feeling you're visiting a friend at their home in the country. We were greeted by a nice young man who was pouring wine to a couple sitting at a table outside. We later found out the young man, Geoff Mace, was the owner. We went inside for the tasting and we sampled the first wine. Geoff said we could sit outside and he would come out and pour us the others. So, we sat outside on a bench and a couple of chairs looking into one of his vineyards. Talking to Geoff we found out so much about him and how he got started. It was such a relaxing time. That was back in 2019 and now it's 2020 and we've gone back to our favorite winery again. As I said earlier it's like visiting a friends home. Well, now it actually is. If you want to visit a True Country Vinyard who offers an Outstanding Selection of Wines then you owe it to yourself to visit Calerrain Wines. Enjoy! read more

This little slice of heaven hits all the marks of what makes a great winery--- knowledgeable and passionate-about-wine wine maker, gorgeous scenery, and delicious wine. Geoff genuinely loves the art of wine making and is eager to share that excited passion with you during your tasting. You felt like you were family, coming home to share some laughs over a glass of wine. The scenery is beautiful and immensely peaceful. I love the fresh flowers on the tables outside. It is the perfect spot for a picnic and enjoying the delicious wine. The wine itself is bold, multiple layers of flavor and smooth finishes. The 2018 Paicines Chardonnay is to die for! Take any preconceived notion about an oaky Chard and throw it out the window when drinking this gem. The 2017 Santa Clara Valley Cab Sauv is decadent and smooth. Small family owned winery. Good value and great ambiance. Santa Cruz and locally sourced grapes, make good Pinots and meritage/mix of Cabs. We became members and they have great pizza made from outdoor pizza oven when available. Recommend for a family outing as they have a little turf area with cornhole,m and large size Jenga. read more

This is one of the top wineries in Gilroy. The wines are phenomenal ( we tasted two unique chardonnays, a delicious Pinot, Malbec and Cab. The wine maker and owner Jeff is very personable, knowledgeable and welcoming. Their staff is also unparalleled, thank you Nicole for the amazing service last weekend with my friends. We drove past a sign for Calerrain last Saturday on our way to Solis. The name grabbed my attention having been raised in a town called COLERAINE in Northern Ireland. So Sunday was the first (of what will be many) visits to this beautiful spot with delicious wines. We were so impressed I was able to persuade Sarah to let me join the wine club. We walked into the new tasting room and tried 2 Chardonnays and thought both were really fresh but different. I'm not a white wine guy but I really enjoyed both which was a good sign. Then the Pinot! I love a Pinot where I can taste the influence of the earth and this was one of the better ones I've ever tried. Malbec and Cabernet were both excellent and led us to something we have NEVER done before, we decided to buy a glass of wine each because we didn't want the experience to end. I don't think I can put into words how much we loved our experience beyond emphasizing that we joined the wine club and already set a date day with our wine friends to treat them to a day of great tasting. PS. As I write this I'm sipping the Cabernet and listening to my Ray Charles LP. What a life! read more

Calerrain is a dream come true for us. Years ago, we realized our interest in wine had transformed into a true passion for the wine-making process. A couple of changes in careers later, we went all in with the grand opening of our winery. Located in the serene countryside of Gilroy, our grounds are a getaway for locals and travelers alike. We do it all for our visitors -- specifically, for their inevitable smiles right after their first sip. So, bring your favorite foods, your closest friends, and an adventurous taste palate. History

Established in 2016.

Calerrain Wines was inspired by our love of exploring California wine country. As a young married couple just starting out, we would always fit a six pack of wine from the local grocery store into our weekly shopping cart. Our weekly wine habit fueled our interest and desire to visit the wineries and vineyards we were tasting on the labels. With each new discovery our interest grew in understanding how the differing terrain of California could influence the story of a wine. In 2010, Geoff left his career to study winemaking and viticulture at Fresno State, home to one of the most prestigious winemaking programs in the country. Since 2011, Chantelle has worked as a pharmacist when not dreaming about wine. In 2016, after several years making wine for some of the top producing wine companies in the world, we decided the time was right to make our dreams a reality. We look forward to sharing great wines with you! Cheers!

The pours were a good size, enough to really get a feel for the wine and share a taste with others. Two of us ended up taking home the same bottle of pinot noir.

A Great Spot for Pizza, Less So for Wine…read more We came here for a birthday party. The place is nice, and the staff is more than friendly. One heads-up: you can't bring your own drinks, not even water, since they want you to buy theirs. That would be fair if they offered a full selection, but they don't carry sparkling water, which we're big fans of. They serve pizza on weekends, and I have to give a shout-out here: the pizza was great! Crispy crust, good cheese, and a nice hint of garlic. Now for what could be better. At a winery, you'd expect some good wines. Sadly, not here. The white selection was limited to Pinot Grigio. It was a bit watery but pretty good, and unfortunately they ran out of it. This year's Rosé has the sweetness of unfermented grape juice. It's so heavy you can barely drink it without diluting it with water. The red, Cask 140, is the most expensive on the list. I don't think I've ever tasted such a dense red. If you're hoping for nuanced flavors, you won't find them here. Everything is overpowered by prune, and it's very tannic. So of the three wines we tried, two I'd never order again, and the one decent option ran out. Honestly, this place feels more like Fortino Pizzeria than Fortino Winery.

You'll also be greeted by their sweet and gentle black lab, Bear, who walks around saying hi to the guests. My husband and I both did the Estate Reds tasting as we love reds, especially Cabernets. I'm not a wine connoisseur at all, but I do like to enjoy a glass of wine here and there. The reds were delish, though I enjoyed The House (light) and Vino Nona (deep and bold) best. However, given another couple of years, I think Vino Nona would have an exceptional taste. And oh, you must try the Frozé (Frozen Rosé) or that I hope you get the chance as I heard they do run out of it fast. Such a yummy adult icee that is so refreshing with a good taste of the Rosé wine. I have 2 young boys, so I always love places that are kid and family friendly! This place is big enough for the boys to run and explore with areas for pictures and games. There's also a cute swing for anyone needing that nice picture to post. And one more thing, the portable bathroom is amazing! I'm never a fan of portable bathrooms, but this one is not a bit scary at all. It kinda reminds me of the bathroom on the airplanes but much nicer. Great escape for a few hours to enjoy with your significant other and/or with friends. Definitely nice place for small events. P.s. We were helped by Melissa, and she was great! They had two tasting flights of 4 wines to choose from on our visit, one of which included a white and reds, while the other was all reds. They did also have some extra bottles open, so they were able to make an all white wine flight for one in our party. The pours were a good size, enough to really get a feel for the wine and share a taste with others. Two of us ended up taking home the same bottle of pinot noir.

The tasting flight consisted of 6 one ounce pours for $15. On my visit the flight was one white and five reds. I enjoyed all 6 wines I tasted, but especially the viognier and the agliorosa. Our tasting associate was nice and attentive, I just wish she had told us about each wine. Its always nice to hear about the wine from someone that has been working with it for a while. The tasting notes were provided, so it was easy enough to read about the wines and follow along. The owners, a husband and wife, were both in the tasting room pouring, chatting, and delivering wine to the tables. We were lucky enough to have Paul, the owner/the winemaker, come out and pour two of the wines for us. It was very cool talking to him and hearing more about the winery and some of the events they do, including saints games on Sunday's!
