Arrived noon on a Wednesday, Dana was running the place by herself. Snack tray was really just a basket of packages. We also order standard tasting flight and found a table outside. We were the sole party in a cozy, a bit warm, surrounding. Very pleasant for friends to chit-chat away a couple of hours. In addition to the standard 5-items, she gave us two "bonus" pours: a light white wine and a bubbly. Services were well paced. We were not hurried and did not wait long for the next pour. The wines were quite drinkable but not really memorable. Syrah and Cara Mia, a Bordeaux blend, were more enjoyable. Chardonnay was steel barreled and therefore not oaky what-so-ever. I think that's a cost consideration, instead of a wine-making decision. I would probably not trek an hour to visit this place again. I bet locals enjoy this place essentially as a bring-your-own-foods outdoor bar. read more

Here is what we loved...the ambiance outside, Alex Lucero (the singer), and Katie, our sommelier. Here is what we didn't love... their wine. This is my first time coming here and I wanted to taste some good wine and enjoy some good music. I got the good music, but I did not get the good wine. If you like sweet wine, then you will love their wine, but I do not want sweet wine. He decided to do the flight but did not care for any of the choice choices. We tried the rosé and it was the sweetest rosé I've ever had. We tried Grenache. It was not good. We tried their Merlot..no! We tried Syrah...no! We ended up changing our flight to a glass of Baciami, which was just okay. I was very disappointed in their wines. The musician was excellent! read more

Love the setting for an outdoor wine tasting. They have plenty of tables on the grass with tree filled hills in the background, so much greenery! They also often have live music. We came in right as they opened on a Sunday afternoon, we were the first ones there and were able to grab a table outside and start our tasting. They did one wine at a time and we went back into the tasting room each time we were ready for our next poor. As we progressed through our tasting the tasting room really started to fill in, the outside didn't ever get too crowded, but the bar was shoulder to shoulder with people lined up waiting to get their next pour. I was happy to be tasting outside as it was much more relaxing. I didn't love any of the wines enough to go home with a bottle, but had we not had plans to visit another winery next, I would've gotten a bottle to enjoy outside and listen to the music because it was a great environment out there. read more

Enjoyed the wine tasting and a bottle o do the white with my friend while sitting outside, listening to some live music, we enjoyed being able to pick out a basket of some salami, some cheese, some crackers to which you can add what you want in the basket that they provide for you. It's really cute the lady there was really nice. Told us a little bit about the winery, it was a nice beautiful sunny day. My husband and I purchased wine trail passes for our anniversary four months ago. We've enjoyed visiting various wineries on the Santa Clara Wine Trail over the summer, and Solis Winery is one of our favorites so far! WINES: I typically prefer white wines, and my husband prefers reds, but we both enjoyed all 6 of the wines we tasted. Our favorite was the estate Syrah (double gold) and we purchased a bottle to share. AMBIANCE: So relaxing! We soaked in the views of the hills and vineyards from the dog-friendly patio while listening to live music. Their website has a calendar of events that lists the food trucks/musicians that are scheduled for each Saturday and Sunday. SERVICE: We decided to check this place out on a whim and had no problem being seated without a reservation. The staff poured the tastings indoors at the bar, but we opted to walk back and forth from the patio in between each pour to enjoy the warm weather outside. Before leaving Gilroy for the weekend, my husband and I stopped here to check it out. We had a wonderful visit to Solis! The grounds are beautiful and although we missed the live music, the gorgeous views made up for it. The staff were all super friendly and helpful. I just opted for a glass of rosé (which we liked so much that we brought a bottle home) and my husband did a tasting. We appreciated the variety and the opportunity to try new grapes and really interesting blends, all complex and well structured. Staff was friendly and the wine was good! We came here following a baptism and our party included kids so we sat in the family area which is a couple tables in front of the building. There were two puppies that kept getting through from the neighbors property which shares a fence with the winery. The fence wasn't secure and they repeatedly crossed over to hang out with us (luckily they were friendly but they did steal some baby shoes and smelled pretty bad). A guy in our party handed the dogs over the fence to the owner (once we were able to find him which took a bit) twice and I think he eventually patched the wire. I understand you can't control your neighbors but it unfortunately affected our experience since we had to chase around dogs while dressed up and there wasn't any alternative seating since kids can't go in the main area. read more

Solis Winery is a solid winery along the Hecker Pass Highway. Great location as there are several other wineries within a 5 minute drive. They offer a bar-style tasting as well as patio tasting; parties can bring their own foods for the patio tasting or opt to buy Foustman's salami and assorted snacks inside the main lounge to enjoy outside. There is a sign that says 21+ only, but there was a family with children on the deck while I was there. Not sure if this is always the case but it didn't bother me. Patio seating is nice and shady, but if you bring snacks watch out for the bees -- they can ruin the experience. Tastings consist of 1 oz each of five wines costing $20 per person, with $10 of that fee going toward a purchase of a bottle. Their Fiano white wine and Rosé were crisp, refreshing, and a bit too light for my taste. I enjoyed their reds, with my favorites being the Zinfandel and the Seducente: fruity, velvety, and wonderfully smooth. The staff was very kind and explained where each wine was grown, so 10/10 for the service. I wish there was a window connecting the serving bar to the patio such that we would not have to walk in and out each time we wanted to taste the next wine. Overall, great service and location. If you don't buy a bottle, the tasting fee is higher than most places. Wines rate an 8/10 and are standard for the region, and I will be back to grab a bottle of the Zinfandel. read more

Stunningly delicious wines from this family-owned and operated winery, in my favorite list are; Roseo, Fiano, and Merlot, and of course, how can I forget the Sangiovese!! also, Tara is a great asset to the winery, pet-friendly and well-trained staff. Love tasting at Solis! They have a lovely indoor tasting room, as well as outdoor seating -- sections for adults only, and seating for families/pets. Alyssa, Megan, and Elaine are extremely attentive and helpful. I appreciate Solis allows you to bring outside food to picnic with, but also offers light bites and food trucks (typically on weekends) for purchase! Solis overlooks the beautiful mountains and is positioned in their vineyard with lots of natural shade from the eucalyptus trees. My favorite varietals (so far!) are the rosé, Sangiovese, and Grenache. Can't wait to come back! read more

The chardonnay was lovely. I came here to enjoy my friends 21st after a wine tour and was treated so badly because we aren't white My friend got cut off after accidentally tripping. Rich and the two white girls at the counter were overheard talking bad about my party. I don't respect that especially after buying multiple bottles and choosing to spend our last wine tour with them. I would not recommend unless you're sober. [Updated] Read their response for my friend Faith a couple of comments down and wanted to clarify the situation again. We got carded several times by the staff for a party of over 12. We gave our ids MULTIPLE times and proved we were all over age. Our party was not disruptive new 21 year olds as we had adults and some of our mothers there as well. Love this place. We've been members forever. Really good wine at affordable prices. They've recently made some big changes, including renovating the outdoor area, and what was super pleasant is now extraordinarily beautiful! Wine is always fabulous, and they offer some really great deals! The only downside (hence 4 stars) is that children are no longer allowed on the deck or in the area behind the tasting room; families are relegated to the two "family" areas on either side of the tasting room, where the tables are weathered and the views not so great. No view of performers on the new stage, either! We have been members of many wine clubs, and this family ban is a first for us. (BTW, dogs are allowed in all outside areas.) read more

Mediocre Wine and substandard service!! Before today I had been a member for several years. I was honestly only a member there because it's around the corner from my house! Today, I met several friends who had never been there before. I thought it would be a cool experience for them to do a tasting. My friends arrived before me and had a not so pleasant welcoming with the person behind the bar who was allegedly one of the "owners." They opted for a glass of wine because they did not want to deal with the server's attitude. Later I leaned the owner was working the bar by himself because he had no staff. He was less than welcoming and acted as if he was doing us a favor.... Terrible service for someone who you would think would want to promote his business. After several less than positive experiences at this winery I decided to cancel my membership. Spend your money elsewhere. Sarah's Vineyard and Besson are down the street. I visited this winery a couple times with my friends. I had a great time and experiences at this winery. The best part is its not too far from where I live. This is the only winery I like enough to actually become a member. The environment is always relaxing. The employees are great. Great customers service. The wines are great. I realize Gilroy isn't the first place which comes to mind when thinking wineries but after our visit to Solis, it is now. The wines were excellent (especially the Rosé). The staff (Sandra and Elaine) were over the top nice and very knowledgeable. Bring a picnic lunch because the outside area is lovely. Or, they have a picnic basket you can purchase there with cheese, sausage, crackers and olives. We were very impressed with the wine, surroundings, and especially the staff.
