We are seasoned wine enthusiasts and have travelled to many wine regions in search of quality wines and wine experiences. We have never been treated by any of the wineries we have visited like the way we've been treated by the staff at Solis Winery.
We've been to Solis Winery on 3 different occasions with our friends and each experience has been met with attitude, rudeness and very poor customer service. We tried to give them the benefit of the doubt each time we've gone but the end result is the same.
The first time, we arrived about 20 minutes before closing for a quick tasting since we had never been there before. We were told that if we didn't finish our tasting before 5pm that we would forfeit the rest of our tastings and would have to leave at 5pm. The employees were more concerned about leaving exactly at 5pm instead of customer service. We were able to finishing our tasting before 5pm (although it felt like we were doing wine shots instead of tasting-don't try it, it doesn't taste good) We had brought some cheese and crackers with us so we went outside to enjoy the summer breeze. We noticed the employees walking rather fast to their cars- the time was around 5:05 pm.
So on the second attempt at Solis (a couple of months later), we were with another group of friends. To our surprise, it was the same tasting room staff that was there from our 1st visit. We were once again met with attitude and rudeness. To get away from the toxic attitudes of the staff, we decided to get our glasses and go sit outside to get some fresh air. They had a library wine for sale and we asked if they had it open to taste, and no they did not, and nor were they willing to open a bottle for you to taste before you bought the wine. Most wineries that have a wine for sale for the day have it open for you to taste before you buy it.
A few months have passed since our 2nd bad experience at Solis Winery. We were in the area once again on Saturday afternoon with our friends and decided to stop by and try the Solis port-which is a really good wine (dessert wine to be exact) that they produce there.
We were hesitant at first about going, not knowing what type of attitude to expect from the tasting room staff after our past 2 visits. Once again, they didn't let us down. It was the same staff members as our previous 2 visits and we were again greeted with attitude and rudeness.
There was a lengthy conversation about just being able to taste the port wine and the refusal of allowing us to revisit the port, even after giving them a nice tip upfront. During the conversation, there was a distracting sound in the tasting room-the sound of loose change being counted by 2 staff members on one of the other cash registers before the shop even closed. Their focus was more on the daily take than on customer service. We decided it was best to just purchase a bottle and head outside.
We have no intentions on returning back to Solis Winery. We tried to give them the benefit of the doubt, maybe they were over-whelmed by customers, but that does not seem to be the case. The problem lies with the attitude of the staff at the tasting room. With any business, the attitude of the ownership is reflected in the attitude of the employees...and it shows. The tasting room staff, maybe even ownership, needs to go to charm school or get some form of attitude adjustment training before dealing with the public. If it were not for the public, the Solis winery would not exist. For Solis winery to continue to exist, quality customer service is needed. Quit with the snobby attitudes, you are not the only winery/wine tasting room in the area, no one will miss you when you are gone. read more
