Update: They designed the system with the solar panels on the roof which is a bad idea on a golf course. The guy who had sold me on them told me that the panels were resistant to golf balls so it wouldn't be a problem. Not true. Three years in I had to replace around 15 of the 120 panels because they were shattered. Then when replacing the solar panels a bunch of roof tiles were broken. They have provided great service otherwise though so giving 4 stars. read more

I had SolarTech install 29 panels on my roof. The process started off with an appointment with JC who was extremely knowledgeable about the competitors, as well as the products he is selling. On a sidenote, JC answered his phone every time I called and respond to texts as well when I have questions. This was extremely important to me. once I signed a contract, I was connected with a team of people that worked with the county for permits and contractors to do the work. The process was completely seamless and done in a timely manner. I had permission to operate from the electric company within a few days of completion on the project. The price was not even competitive with two other estimates that I received. It was far less than the competitors are usually do not go with a company because of price but when it's over a $10,000 difference, you have to question why the competitors are gouging solar prices on their products that are less in quality. read more

I am a pretty unhappy customer. Paid 31k for a system 3 years ago. I still get monthly $300 solar bills on average since install. Had an inverter fail under warranty and they took their sweet time to replace (close to 2 months) - where i incurred utility bills over 1k each during those months. I then had a roof leaf - and they sent some guys out who pulled a whole bunch tree debris off of my roof - and just left it in a big pile in my yard when done. When I spoke to discuss my issues with the roofing coordinator, he could not have been MORE OF A JERK and basically told me it would be $850 a panel to remove any - and I was on my own other than that. I WOULD NEVER EVER EVER EVER RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES They put in a 100k system in my Dad's house so I thought I would be safe - I was not. We wanted Solar for our pool and decided to go with SolarTech. Our house isn't your normal layout and this definitely was not a normal pool solar installation. That being said, these guys were great. Maneuvering around boulders, under decks and trying to find the ideal place to install the solar sheets/tubes (we already have home solar which takes up most of the roof) these guys made it look easy. The salesman David Baca was super responsive and answered all of my questions. He then passed me on to the Pre-Site Manager Greg Chase who kept me up to date on when the project would start/finish and who was coming out to my house each day. Greg has been amazing to work with. I have a string of texts where everytime I ask for him to do anything he would respond back with "no problem". He's called me back after store hours to help walk me through operation of the system. This has been a great experience and I would highly recommend SolarTech and this crew to anyone. I went through solar techs reviews before I made my decision to use them, reading all good and bad. Let me tell you every negative review was pretty much what I experienced from Jason bull lying about about saving me 4k. He signed me up for the wrong plan. Then said I would have to have my credit ran again to make the change. Installers installed panels carelessly dropping and dragging panels on ground leaving deep scratches on panel frame. Sent pics to solar tech. They came back and spray painted scratches. While inspecting my roof I couldn't believe the installers would leave ALL there mess on my roof. I found all there cut wires, zip ties and cut aluminum on the roof and the ground. I called and spoke to Grant and this dude literally made excuses For his crew. He passed me over to Charlene who was supposed to meet me on a agreed date and time to do a walk through and she no-showed. I called back on Monday just for Charlene to lie saying she must have sent the cancellation to a different email. Charlene and I have been speaking the whole time via text/phone. She lied!! I started with them in February. Inspection was passed 5/11/2022. They sent me an email saying in 2 weeks things would be finalized. It's 6/11/2022. I haven't heard one thing from solar tech.. that is until I left my honest opinion on how unprofessional and misleading solar tech has been a few days ago and finally... I get a response from lily there project manger. Not one apology from her. Steer clear from this company. They do not communicate. The installers are lazy and unprofessional. Speaking with them over the phone is comical. Nobody takes responsibility over at solar tech. They just take your money. You've been warned curious customers!!! Beware!!' read more

I am updating my review after recent activity on the part of SolarTech. Although it took more than 14 months to finally resolve this issue, SolarTech was able to finally find a replacement panel (which actually generates more power than the shattered one it replaced) and installed it in February along with the microinverter we had previously purchased for the panel that was somehow shattered - all at no additional cost to us. I don't know if the reason this issue took so long to be resolved was related to a specific person dragging their feet (I was told by SolarTech that their long term service manager had left the company recently) or if it was just difficult to find LG panels now that they have stopped producing/selling them. Either way, I am happy to put this incident behind me and have improved my overall company review rating. read more

Consider other 4-5 star companies in the area if you want your solar done properly from start to FINISH. Our sales guy was great, responsive, clear on pricing and process, however once contract was signed, numerous issues followed. First, a 3 month delay that had nothing to do with supply but the fact they admitted to working on a customer with a similar last name so thought they have already gotten to our job. They apologized for that mistake and offered $200 discount for the troubles even after numerous checkins met by an annoyed staff stating it wasn't our turn. I didn't accept the discount as the installers were diligent and hardworking and didn't have anything to do with the delay (during this same time period of waiting, two neighbors whom went with Stellar Solar and Sunline Energy, both signed contracts after me and had their projects completed months before me). After the job was finally done, we decided to add 8 more panels due to a discount and figured it would be simple. Nope, delays and poor communication led to months of lack of energy being produced by panels even after paying for the installation and still, issues with monitoring and lack of power being produced. The complexities of a power wall (Tesla) and solar panels seem to have their technical team flustered with attempts to fix but no resolution (at least they've admitted there is an issue after over a month of trying to get someone out to the site). Still awaiting a manager to step in to deliver a solution with some urgency which usually only happens after a negative review is provided. read more

Since its starting to warm up, I decided to turn the pool solar water system back on only to find out that the Pentair SolarTouch controller was no longer communicating if the Pentair Pool Pump. After looking online and seeing that many were saying that a computer on the controller need to be repaired. Since the system is less than a year old I called the installer, SolarTech instead. Good move on my part. Was put in touch Manager who walked me through rebooting the controller and setting up the pool pump with all the correct settings. We love the system water system. Already up to 79degress!!!. If you're thinking of getting Solar Water, I highly recommend SolarTech. Great service, great product. read more

Next door to me, over a week's time so far, Solar Tech installers have ignored regulations requiring barriers to protect pedestrians in residential areas, sending dozens of sharp projectiles along my front walk and right up to my front door. These include thick 4" nails, 6" metal brackets, and 3 to 4 sq in composite roof tile fragments. This did not stop despite my appealing to the installation crew, to the neighbors who hired them (which they now regret), and to the company phone rep. It continued even after demolition was completed. An entire week into this chaotic process, an installer offered to come over to clean up, clearly believing I'd simply left my walk strewn with huge nails for 5 days, and thinking he'd be doing me a great favor, when the fundamental issue is illegally allowing sharp objects to fly from the second story of a house into a neighbor's yard in the first place, endangering anyone in the vicinity. Cleanup is neither a reasonable nor a sufficient response; Solar Tech needs to respect laws protecting public safety. The installers did not issue any warning about flying debris, undoubtedly because they do not acknowledge this as a problem. They are working at a snail's pace, 3-4 hours a day, continually sending debris flying, with no end in sight. Do not hire these irresponsible people. read more

SolarTech installed solar heating panels for my pool a couple years ago and the system and support has been excellent. Just recently I had an issue with the solar system running always when the pool pump was on. Greg came out and reviewed all the settings on my EasyTouch panel and made some adjustments to get everything working as it should. It appears SolarTech did not reinstall the solar panels correctly. They used wiring that isn't approved for outdoor use, and the wire nuts that they installed came loose, causing the live wires to be exposed (dangerous) and touch each other. This caused my solar panels to not work at all, and honestly could have caused a more serious issue if it wasn't caught. Fortunately, after another solar company inspected their work and provided photos for me to share with SolarTech, SolarTech came back to replace the wire and wire nuts for free. It concerns me that those mistakes were made in the first place, though. I was told on the phone that they would never leave a job without making sure the job was done well. I think I would recommend them for roof replacement, because my roof still seems to look and work great, but would not trust them with the solar panels. read more

Paid One flat diagnostic fee which was worth every penny. I Highly recommend them. Their Technician was very professional , polite, and knew his stuff! Here's my story. Signed a contract with SolarTech in November to install solar, a roof and electrical panel. They are not the cheapest company but i liked the panels and they said all work was done in house. Salesman and everyone came out to make sure solar could go up and roof in February. Everything looks good right? Wrong! Here I am in February and the roofing crew shows up. Just kidding they climb off the roof and say they do not work on my type of roof nor can it hold solar. Well that would have been good to know three months prior as my roof began to leak causing extra damage and costs to my repair. Okay. Stuff happens let's move on to the electrical panel because this has to be done anyway and they already had the appointment set up for me.m. March 16 arrives and SDGE shows up at 8 am as scheduled. Who does not? You guessed it SolarTech. SDGE has other people waiting. Calls SolarTech electrician numbers 4 times. No dice. Sdge leaves without shutting power off since the electrician has to be there. I speak with the office and I get an offer for them to pay the rescheduling fee. Super great offer since they missed the appointment. (Hope you sense the sarcasm) I am not going to call and ask to speak to the owner and cry because I don't believe you should have to for good quality service and work. I will say everyone is super nice there but after three strikes I just asked more my deposit back and I am 5 months behind on a remodel. The first big project on our house and we signed with a different solar installer who didn't do a roof inspection, then improperly installed the solar panels, destroyed our roof in the process and ignored us for months. I received excellent work from my first sales contact with Cassidy to Robert, the lead installer, to the installation crews. I was a very early solar user back in 2002, but I needed to relocate and add to my system this year. The county of San Diego with all their regulation changes made it impossible to save my old functional system. No contractor wanted the job. Solar Tech provided the winning bid. They were worth waiting for. When Robert and his crew arrived they were one of the hardest working teams I have seen. My custom home was not an easy install with my main panel down on a hillside, not on the house. It also had an emergency electrical system. I have a strong electrical background and enjoyed watching a team with a can-do attitude solve numerous problems. Their battery back up and load shedding system by NeoVolta works excellently in keeping my money from going to SDG&E. The solar panels by Sun Power are monitored by Solar Tech, so I don't have to. Some of my issues were not easy to solve, like monitoring a 400 amp panel on a hillside. Their true colors came out when I had a new inverter fail. Not only was it replaced in a timely manner, but they also figured out why it failed so it will not happen again. They all are a first class team I will highly recommend! The Project Manager that was assigned to our job was Charlene Reed. Again another smooth transition, and she is very good at her job. SolarTech installed my solar system at the tail end of summer (and new pool pump!). I've been busy traveling for work and haven't had a chance to sit down to write a proper review, but now I have. Kevin was my sales guy and he worked with me to get everything set up, pretty much all remotely as I had a pretty grueling travel schedule over the summer. The paperwork was done remotely, as well as scheduling the work. I made progress payments remotely as well. I would have liked a few more progress photos as things went along but I got enough to show me what was going on. The office staff was very helpful as well. After I came back home, everything looked as it should. After waiting for the paperwork to go through, I got permission to operate in early September. From signing the paperwork to operating was just over 30 days. Things went fast and I got a great price. My modest system has so far produced almost 3.5 megawatt-hour of electricity since install... crazy I know! A home battery system is on my list. I'm happy and would recommend SolarTech without hesitation. read more

Initial sales process is great, after that good luck getting decent responses. The effort I had to put into find out what was going on made this process absolutely suck. Someone else told me the same thing about them as well. I have countless emails where I've had to repeatedly follow up. The install was ok except for the fact they would never let me know when someone was coming until I asked when they were coming to finish the job. Onsite techs botched some of the work, they needed to send a specialized outside drywall/plaster company to fix as their patch was so bad. Absolutely needless drilling into our beautiful archway that needed to be patched. The pool solar and electrical were both less powerful than they quoted me. Woops. Battery pack seemed like it was a new process for them as each person had a different idea how to do it. Initially they were going to run wires over the roof. Perfect. Later they realized they couldn't do that. Manufacturer doesn't even make a cable long enough. I have a literal laundry list of missed items and countless follow-ups unrelated to SCE's delay. Battery packs arrived dead or dented. Had to wait for replacement/repair. I've had two repairs so far outside of this. Billing and sales will easily contact you. You want details on your job? Pfff. This was a significant residential system too - it seemed like this was honestly the first time many of them even saw a battery install. Unsure how they will spin their response but I assure you - following up was an absolute pain. The system took *more than a year* from when I signed with them and I was not part of the delay. Granted SCE added significant time - but the process was still well over 10 months with them. Their pool solar installation and repair guy was extremely knowledgeable - I enjoyed the discussions with him and his expertise. He came and fixed the leak, no bueno it existed in the first place but he made it right at least. Beware. Our company in Irvine has 58 solar panels on the roof. Sales Rep Ali Ibrahim is the best one from the first day when he presented the project for us. Robert Shaw, the Director of Marketing also provided us with well understanding of the company's dignity and service. No wonder their business has been extremely booming after 10 years focus on solar pool heating. We're pleased to be one of their first few commercial building projects in OC with a decent size of over 20kW. The Solar System has saved over one thousand of dollars on the bill. A major home addition (e.g. solar & battery) is only as good as (1) the equipment, and moreover (2) the quality workmanship/install team, and (3) most of all, the customer service when questions or concerns arise. Solar Tech scores supreme in all three of these aspects. Even though I had my system installed 2+ yrs ago, as recently as this week, Solar Tech stood behind and assisted me with an issue that I was having with my SunPower equipment. In fact, so helpful and skilled/adept was Elissa Becerra, that she was able to assist me, after my numerous failed attempts to self-resolve a connectivity issue, remotely from her desk. I gladly provided her my router SSID and password, and she accomplished in 15 minutes, what I couldn't in over 20 attempts over the past 8-12 months. Then she sent me a personal email to advise me that, from her end, it appeared that she had successfully established a connection for me with our SunPower monitoring box. And indeed she had ! Pete Baker (Great guy) came to my house and sold use a SwimLux Pool Solar System. Pete was a no pressure sales person, honest and up front with you. Our old system had to be replaced and our new system was installed on 6-16-2022. Robert Emery and his associate did a phenomenal job with removing our old pool heating solar system and installing a new one!! Robert is extremely knowledgeable and did a great job installing the technical equipment. DO NOT under any circumstances use this company!!!! We are currently in the middle of a solar panel installation with them and it has gone horribly wrong. Late in the afternoon on November 8th, 2021 a SolarTech employee was making the final connections from their solar equipment to our electrical panel and shorted out at least two circuits. This sent 220 volts down normally 110 volt circuits burning out all of our equipment and devices on these circuits including our furnace and smart thermostat. The most egregious thing of this whole incident is SolarTech, particularly Grant Magoffin and Charlene Reed, have left myself and my family sitting in a tinderbox that could go up in flames any minute due to their non-responsiveness correcting the electrical hazard their company created in our home. read more

I highly recommend this company. In 2016, they replaced our solar pool heating panels and added some panels to our solar photovoltaic system. Recently, our roof started leaking due to the heavy rains at the end of 2019. A roofing company quoted me $4500 to fix the leak, but suggested I call SolarTech to see if their warranty covered leaks like this. To my surprise, SolarTech was extremely responsive to my request. They made three trips to diagnose and repair my leak. I was on the roof with them and was impressed with their thoroughness and professionalism. It turned out that the leak was not their fault. It was caused by improper installation of the flashing around our chimney. Amazingly, they did not ask to be paid for this repair. This level of customer support is rare. read more

As I said, according to the official roof inspection when I bought my home...the roof was solid and had no leaks, (ANYONE who has bought a home knows what an inspection entails), plus we had a few storms prior to the solar installation without incidence, I highly doubt all the leaks where a coincidence with the solar being installed.... I guess the roof decided to leak along with the trail of tiles that magically broke. OKIE DOKIE. No need to request any documentation at this point, I would never want you on my roof again...repairs have been made elsewhere. Unfortunately, we experienced the worst thing that can happen when having this kind of solar installed, and how a company can behave when things doesn't go according to plan. Based on reviews we chose SolarTech and accepted an offer for solar pool heating. As many reviews here show, in the beginning they were super friendly, and the project was finished on time. So far, so good. The solar was installed in December, and we were a little disappointed that we after 2 weeks did not experience the 80F we were promised when signing the contract. Actually, it took several months before we got there. The next winter it was somewhat better, but we have never experienced 80F during winter time. Then things got bad. The coming fall we had terrible leaks on the side of the roof the solar was installed, and on the other side just where the pipes came down to the pump. We contacted SolarTech and they came out pretty quickly to fix it, resealing some of the bolts. They were totally surprised and told us that this never happened. Unfortunately, it did happen again a few months later. They argued that it could not be the solar installation that was the problem, but that my husband had been on the roof putting down an extra layer of shingles before the installation, to avoid leaks. They were aware of this, being informed in writing, and inspected the roof before their installation without finding any problems. My husband was a carpenter and knows what he is doing. And, most importantly, there are no leaks any other place than where the installation is. The leaks follow the bolts in the roof, through all three bedrooms. SolarTech refused to help us with the leaks, as Ashley wrote in an email: "We were out in July 2015 to check this issue before. We did have JB Roofing meet us there and seal some nails/holes. The leaks you have are not from the pool solar panels. This was determined last year when we were out" They did send an inspector, though, and suddenly they were willing to come back after all. HIt turned out some of the bolts where rusty, proving that water had actually come down around them, and that the sealing around some bolts were broken. SolarTech moved the panels over and reinstalled them with new bolts. SolarTech claimed they did it to be "nice" to us even if they considered themselves not to be responsible for the leaks. The leaks got somewhat better, but it was still leaking in all bedrooms. We argued that there might still be holes in the roof where the old bolts had been, but SolarTech disagreed and would not do anything more about it. Our carpets were ruined and indoor walls and ceiling needs repainting. We had to have the roof tarped while trying to get a dialogue with SolarTech and figuring out what to do. In the end we decided there were no way around, we had to have the roof re-done before we did the repairs inside. The insurance company would not cover anything due to faulty craftsmanship and the extra-ordinary rain storms. We asked SolarTech to cover some of the costs, they refused. Now we are left in a deadlock: The new roofing company will only give the 20 year warranty on the roof if they reinstall the panels. But, we do not dare to have the solar put back, being afraid we are going to end up having SolarTech refusing to take responsibility again if the solar doesn't work properly after another company installs it. The roofing company, who also does solar, informed us that leaks are common with these kinds of installations on the kind of roof we have and with the bolts that were initially used. SolarTech "forgot" to mention this risk in their eager to sell us their installation. The end to the story is that we are left with no solar and $20.000,-., in bills, not including the original cost for the solar. We asked SolarTech if they could at least give us our money back for the solar that now is laying in our backyard. They refused. We discussed the case with our lawyer, who thinks we have a good reason to open a law suit. We told Jason about this, asking him again nicely to at least reimburse us for the solar, but he just said that he would contact their lawyer and take it from there. We are just so tired of the whole thing, having used after 2,5 years and countless hours dealing with this. We don't want to use any more of our time going through a law suit. This may be a wonderful firm but we were unable to use them. Reason: read the fine print in their contract. They will tell you that they have $2 mil in insurance, but the contract itself has a limitation of liability clause (what you can collect for damages) of "the value of the contract". In our case that was $3700 quoted for a solar pool installation. It is easy to do more than $3700 in damage to a home if something goes wrong during installation. We asked that the contract be changed to a limitation of liability more reflective of the insurance they carry, or at least to something reasonable (such as $500K), and they flat refused.
