This is a response to Chase C. Business Owner of AllTech Solar for his comments on October 2, 2024. First of all, you lied when you said that I placed restraints on the placement of my panels. I know nothing about the best placement of solar panels for the generation of the most electricity and totally relied on your expert(s) for placement. Your expert(s) told me that placement of the 10 panel array where it presently sits was the best and your one and only recommendation for this 10 panel array. Of course I approved it because I relied on your supposed expertise about which, sadly, I was mistaken. It is very specious of you to say that I, who know nothing about solar or the best placement of arrays, overruled the experts. If you had told me that the best placement was over the garage, I assuredly would have said OK. I never refused to allow you to place any solar panels on the garage or anywhere else for that matter. It is impossible for you to provide any substantive or reasonable explanation as to why I wouldn't want the panels on the garage as the entire roof, including the garage had been replaced, not repaired, just one year previous to your installation so panel placement was without constraints anywhere on my roof including my garage. And, of course, stating that I wanted the panels out of view and that's why I did not want them on the garage is totally untrue and ridiculous on its face value. Someone would have to be at least 10 feet tall to see any solar panels placed on the garage roof. Why would I even care if they were visible? I don't even live there!! The house has been rented out for 25 years. For almost $25,000 I would certainly want the most electricity generated for my money. Seriously! Why on this earth would I not want the panels to be visible? Putting in solar panels is a sign that you care about the environment and are doing your best to mitigate CO2 emissions. It certainly can only paint you in a good light. Add to this the fact that I don't live there but also did it to ease the financial strain on my tenants, (most everyone in the neighborhood knows I have rented this house out for 25 years) how could anyone not believe I was being a good person as well as a good steward of the environment? Would this be something I wanted to hide? Of course not. Just ridiculous. Let me define malfeasance for you. "The doing of an act which a person ought not to do; evil conduct;" You should have refused to place my panels where you did even if it meant losing my business if you were a moral businessman with a conscience. You admit in your letter that you knew that my 10 panel array would produce less energy than if they were placed on the garage. While you called it slightly less, "Due to the shade those panels produce slightly less than the others" I have proof that the "less" ranges from 20% to almost 50%. I don't know any reasonable person who would call that slightly less. Have you forgotten that Enphase Energy, the manufacturers of the solar micro-inverters agreed with me, in writing, that the 10 panel array was assuredly underperforming? But you didn't care. In the end you said, who cares about Malcolm. I ONLY CARE ABOUT GETTING HIS MONEY. As to my 5 star review, that was a review before you had my money and my signature on the paperwork. Naturally, you were being extremely professional prior to the actual installation because you wanted my money. Sadly, after I signed the legally binding paperwork to pay for the solar panel installation you lost incentive to do right by me. I offered you many opportunities and compromises to have you move the panels to the garage but you were 100% intransigent and refused to meet me in the middle or anywhere else for that matter. It was your way or the highway. This is not good business as satisfied customers are your greatest resource. As someone who used to own his own business, there were occasional times when I bit the bullet, took a loss and made the customer satisfied because word of mouth is paramount to a successful business. If you save a few thousand dollars by not making the customer feel satisfied, then you risk losing many more thousands of dollars in lost business. If my review cost you just one customer, we both know that this meant a larger financial loss to you when compared to the loss you would have suffered had you just moved my panels in the name of good will and customer satisfaction. So it doesn't make financial sense for how you dealt with me. The fact that it took you 2 years to respond to my review is unconscionable as I posted my review in September of 2022 and you decided to reply 2 years later. Talk about horrible customer service. My advice - DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH ALLTECH SOLAR! They are a highly unprofessional establishment that doesn't understand the concept of basic manners and customer service; and thinks that doing business means disappearing right after getting paid, bullying and intimidating customers. As soon as they first showed up to install the panels and took the first deposit, our bad experiences began: They drilled holes right into the front wall of our house (next to the front door) to install the ugly electric box with all the pipes and tubes going to and from it. We were not aware of this set up and when we politely inquired about it, Chase (the owner) immediately started pointing fingers at us and blaming us for not bringing it up beforehand. I am not quite sure how you bring something up in advance if you don't even know about it. Having a huge and ugly thing installed by your front door is pretty significant and worth at least mentioning to the property owners. That's what we would expect but didn't want to have a big argument about that and instead wanted to have a constructive discussion about other available options, to see if the box could be installed elsewhere in a more conspicuous location. In response, the contractor just called the layout of our house 'weird' and said it was the only place for the box. Since he is supposed to be an expert, we went with that recommendation. Thinking about it now, maybe we should get an expert opinion from a third party to confirm this assessment, to make sure the contractor did not simply say that to avoid the responsibility of cleaning up the mess and redoing the work (we will be looking into that). Shortly after the installation was complete, we discovered that one of the panels was malfunctioning. When we notified the contractor, they were extremely unresponsive and slow, until they finally disappeared and stopped responding to our emails and calls. It's been 4.5 months now since we reported the issue and there is still no resolution and no time estimate. My husband left them a negative Yelp review, after which the owner started threatening us and said our claim is now on hold until the review is taken down. To top it all off, their demeanor is very unprofessional. Every time they come in, they break or uproot plants in our patio. We understand that things happen, but in a civilized world, you let property owners know. And they come across as very impolite, almost angry looking, as if you stole $15,000 from them. Chase might not understand that but not everything in this world is about money and material benefits. They will probably keep intimidating us and keep refusing to honor the transaction. They will most likely not assist us with submitting the manufacturer's warranty claim and make us jump through all those hoops (looks like it's part of their bullying tactic). We still have to do what's right. The Yelp review is not going down. We will actually keep updating our review with any new information and helpful tips to help other customers in a similar situation. We will also leave a review on Google and any other pertinent platforms. We will probably work with the manufacturer warranty provider directly. If they deny for any reason, we will have to go after Alltech Solar. We are also submitting our contract to our attorney today for review to see what our options are. We will explore all and any options available to us. There are legal options. There are also professional trade options, like the Contractors State License Board, etc... etc... While going through that process, we will keep updating our reviews. I was deceived by AllTech Solar after a negotiated agreement with the sales representative, Ken Ehrle. I was told my project was ready to be scheduled, AllTech took my deposit, and the company failed to respond to my messages. They failed to acquire the proper permits, and even seem to not know what permits are required. I requested a refund of my money they collected and after a week and half got a flimsy reply which confirmed their lack of knowledge in the industry. They sent a weak memo and claimed to have permit expenses equal to my payment, which the city confirmed no payments were made by AllTech, no required permit application with SDG&E. Alltech is awesome! When I wasn't getting the SDG&E savings that I had been expecting from my solar panels, I thought maybe they needed a maintenance check. I looked on Yelp and Alltech by far stood out as a reliable company with its multiple 5-star reviews. Chase came out to do a system check on my array (which had been installed by a different company) and he was horrified to find that the reason my electric bill was still so high was that the other installation company had never switched on my panels!!!!! I honestly think he was more upset than I was about it. Chase went into action hero mode and immediately called Enphase, setting up my account for me and staying on the phone with them until he was able to ensure the system was up and running. But merely "up and running" wasn't good enough for Chase's high level of customer care. A few weeks later, he contacted me to say that he had been following up to make sure my system was fully operational but noticed that one of the panels wasn't responding. Yelpers, not only did Chase tell me that he would like to come by and replace the panel, but he didn't even charge me because he was still so disappointed in the way the other company had treated me. From the initial contact through Yelp (which led to a virtual meeting with Julian), through solar installation, this has been a very pleasant experience. I contacted several solar companies and received quotes for different solar panel options. I did my own research into the different options, but also consulted Julian with several questions. He was the most knowledgeable solar person I spoke with, and was very patient explaining everything--not selling Alltech's plan for my solar, but helping me understand the differences. The quote I received from Alltech, was the lowest for the type and size of solar system I eventually decided I wanted. Once the decision was made and paperwork was virtually signed, Chase came to confirm the roof size and panel placement. A few days later, I received the official documents for review and signature, so the building permits could be processed. I had to get approval from my HOA in order to proceed, but as soon as that was received (which happened to be the same day as city permits were received), the installation was scheduled for the next week. Chase arrived, as scheduled, with his crew, and installation was completed in a few hours. I had concerns about how my electric panel was left, but after expressing my anxiety was told that Steven (Alltech's Inspection Tech) would be there the next day to finish the planned electrical work, set up the Enphase WiFi information, paint the electrical conduits (which I had no idea they would do!), and meet with the City Inspector. Steven arrived as scheduled, adjusted the electric panel as needed, and removed a gutter spout to take to Home Depot to match the color for painting the electrical conduits. He returned to wait (in his truck) for the City Inspector to arrive. After the inspector left, Steven painted the conduits, and explained that everything was ready for SDG&E to tell us we could flip the switch. A few days later, Julian and Chase arrived when told we could turn on the solar system. They've offered, when I receive my first SDG&E "bill", to walk me through what the provided information represents (if needed). I still have not received that information from SDG&E, but this review was long overdue. If you want the best solar installation experience you can get, I highly recommend Alltech Solar. Julian, Chase, and Steven, were all very knowledgeable, patient, respectful, prompt, and courteous. I had Alltech install a 3.8 KW system at end of September of 2022, and it's been working great. I have an unusual open beam roof, and Chase from Alltech readily told me how he could install the solar panels. In contrast, about 5 years ago Solar City said they could not install solar on our roof because of the unusual construction. Over the next couple years I got quotes from other other Solar companies, but they only sent out salespeople to give me a quote. I was not able to get a response from anyone in these companies as to how they would install the panels or if it was possible. I'd been looking to get rooftop solar for years but since my electric bill typically wasn't that high it never made sense. With prices coming down and the federal tax credit going to expire after 2021, I looked into it once more. After evaluating four installers and rather quickly dropping two from the list, it came down to Alltech Solar and another. Ultimately I picked Alltech and was quite happy with the experience. During the sales process, I talked with Ken and found him to be very knowledgeable and easy to speak with. He answered all my questions, even over email, and waited patiently for me to work through the vendor evaluation process. I never got the sense of being rushed or pushed into anything. All Ken needed was some basic info about your electrical usage, like from the SDG&E bill, and he provides a clear write up of the recommended system size and panel layout. Once the layout was created and city permit obtained, the installation was all done in less than a day. Chase, the project manager was easy to work with and his installation crew was courteous and cleaned up quickly. They only needed to cut the power for a short time and for only part of the house so it didn't disrupt my working from home. (There was a bit of noise from the installation of hardware on the roof and along the wall but that was expected as they'd be working directly over my home-office.) Alltech Solar lived up to their reviews. I could not be happier with their customer service level. Best in class for sure. Now, the process involved in getting solar can be long and tedious. In our case, like many, it involved several different parties: Alltech Solar Us Our Bank Our HOA SDGE The City of San Diego You can imagine with all those parties in the mix, how easy it could be for someone to drop the ball. What I really appreciated was how on top of it Cyrus and Chase were on everything that was in their control. Cyrus was able to give me an initial proposal after just a quick phone conversation. He set up an on-site visit 2 days later. He sent us an updated proposal just 3 days after the on-site visit. He even helped us answer the questions our HOA had. He completed blue prints in less than 2 weeks. Once we approved them, he applied for a permit from the city. The city permit took about 6 weeks. That was probably the longest part of the process, but totally out of their control. Chase and Cy were great responding to my many status inquiring emails in those weeks. Once we were approved, they scheduled the roofers to come out just 3 days later on a Wednesday, and the roofers were done with the roof by that Friday. Alltech installed the actual panels the following week in less than 2 days. They got the City Inspector to come out just 2 days after that. We passed inspection that day and Chase submitted our net metering application to SDGE that Friday. One week later, SDGE turned on our system. The whole process took about 3.5 months and most of that was our HOA, our bank approving our loan, and the City approval process (5 weeks for our HOA and 6 weeks for the City). I can't say enough great things about Chase and Cy. They are super responsive, quick to answer my questions, had a crew that really seemed to know what they were doing, and were just really pleasant to work with. They set us up with an app to track our solar panels, filed for our warranty for the panels, and gave us a nice binder with reference material for the system. I highly recommend them. read more
