I had several quotes from different companies in SD and was referred to Perk by a friend. John was easy to work with, and offered a price cheaper than all the others. He also encouraged me to visit other homes he had done installs on. Solar can be a do it yourself project for a few people but whet your really paying for is their permitting with city of SD and SDGE. There's a process that must be followed and permitting through the city can be a problem. Perk does all of that for you. I couldn't be happier. We installed 19, 320 watt panels and the SolarEdge inverter and on my first full year I was a net generator. Like most everyone else here, I did massive due diligence before I selected a company to install solar panels on the house we bought a few months ago. I got 9 different quotes from 7 different companies (a couple of the companies gave me alternative proposals). I had a few requirements that made our system particularly challenging. First, since we had only lived in our house for about a month, we didn't have much history to use in sizing the system. Second, I needed to get the system installed and green-lighted by SDG&E before the end of the year so I could get the tax credit in 2015. Third, I wanted a solar company that actually did the work itself -- as I learned during the bidding process, some are just front companies that farm out the work to solar installers. Long story short, Perk Solar was one of the few companies to meet all my requirements. Plus, when I met John Perkins -- the owner of Perk Solar -- I immediately knew he was my kind of guy. John is on top of the very latest technology, and I was super impressed by his knowledge and his passion for his work. Although Perk Solar wasn't the lowest bid (they were 2nd lowest), I went with them because I liked John Perkins a lot, and because he promised to make my deadline using the very latest solar panels and technology. While that may sound strange, we have 3 neighbors who used Perk, all with rave reviews and other neighbors who went with someone else, with less than stellar results, including a pending lawsuit. The ideal place for our panels, naturally, did not correspond to the easiest placement site. We already had solar panels and our neighbor recommended Perk to install a Tesla Power Wall. It took a little time for the order to arrive, but upon delivery the crew was at our door exactly when they said they would arrive. We are very happy with the installation they provided. In 2014 I interviewed over 10 to 15 solar installation companies; some of these were over the phone shady brokers, that will size a system using google maps of your roof or property. I was surprised how many of them do not have a clue what a watt is or would lie, deceive, & insult the intelligence of customers & think they have no concept or full understanding of electricity or solar by attempting to either talk over their heads, with some polished sales pitch, still to offer them an extremely overpriced obsolete technology or inferior PV system. I did not get this with Perk Solar as they recommended the best yielding PV system needed for my East West facing rooftop system. Perk Solar installed my 5kW rooftop system almost two years ago. Forward to Feb 2017; I have had no issues with power generation, system efficiency or defective equipment. It was a great experience from start of planning to finish, excellent communication on the entire project. They also took care of the permit process & connecting to SDGE, they also took care of the necessary power panel upgrades, to support the system. Perk Solar designed and installed our system 2.5 yrs ago and it's preformed flawlessly. We had plans to be out of town for several weeks, so needed it installed within two weeks or it would have to wait a couple of months. John took the challenge and had permits, install, inspections and SDG&E approval to turn it on before we left. He said it was a pretty easy job, but not so to some of the other companies we received bids from (because it was not being installed on our house). One thing I noticed they did differently than I saw at a couple relatives homes, was the installation was NEAT. No wires or silver conduit exposed. We've gone through two true-up periods and only had to pay about $10 for electricity in two years (including the monthly service fee which has steadily increased during this time). We've have enough over production to cover almost all of the fees too. John Perkins and his team really know their stuff. If you want quality products and quality design and installation, I highly recommend you go with PERK SOLAR. A friend recommended them to us. Great experience. Highly recommended. He worked seamlessly with our roofing guy and the finished installation looks truly custom and built-in, not some tacky after-thought. Everything is the highest caliber and, if anything, the panels are exceeding what was estimated. John's price was significantly lower than the "Big Boys" and even included a power panel upgrade, something that I knew was necessary but many of the other salesmen (notice I said salesmen) glossed over, probably due to lack of knowledge regarding that model of power panel. Unfortunately, before he had a chance to replace the panel, several circuit breakers broke due to the extra stress on the system from the remodeling so we were without air conditioning. I was told by someone I trust to check out Perk Solar (and on other un-named competitor). They had worked with John Perkins and had great things to say. In my case, I've had the pleasure of working with Jim Spielmaker, in stead. Unlike the usual pretentious/over-caffeinated/hounding sales-types, Jim is extremely down to earth and made it clear that getting my business was his #1 goal. I have turned down a handful of competitors quotes that were either inflated or full of bloatable line-items - some bids simply did not put their best foot forward from the start. Where Perk stands out for me is that they were the only quote I had that met the 110% of my energy needs. My other quotes knew my power demands but fell short at about 82% because of budget/rooftop limitations, and a prefer to use a cookie cutter build plan that would leave me paying for electrons. Jim listened, and presented me with a competitive quote that will actually let me have a zero dollar true-up. If you are considering going solar - call Perk. If you are not considering going solar, call Jim and let him show you why you need to do it - you will literally be putting money in your pocket just a few years from now. I can't recommend due to reliability. This should be one of your most important considerations. Each of the two times I met with john, he was late. When I agreed to go with him, he said several times he would bring a contract by, but never showed and didn't answer calls. I don't think anyone wants this when it comes to a major expenditure.
