Had the most amazing experience here would 100000% come back. Yesli is an extremely skilled nail technician who not only pays attention to detail, she also provided me with the best customer experience I've ever had at a nail salon. She is a kind, smart and a talented artist. Her work is precise and detail oriented. If you are considering getting any sort of nail service done and want someone who will not only do it well but cares about how her customers feel when they walk out of the salon, book Yesli!!!!
I finally found a new nail salon while im living in this area!! My go to nail tech is Yesli! She is so sweet and never rushes her work which I really appreciate. She also does designs and pedicures really well.
Yesterday, I came here and had a pedicure. YESTERDAY. I get regular pedicures and have never left with toes like this. I paid for the second tier pedicure with the extra stuff, including callous and hot stone etc. The skin/the polish, the cuticles, everything looks so bad. I tipped 25% before noticing how horrible it looked up close. How?? I think some steps were missed. $57 for a one day pedicure. Disappointed they did such a bad job.
Solar Nails is my go-to local spot for gel and dip powder manicures. It's not a fancy place but they typically do a solid job. They don't specialize in elaborate nail designs but they can do simple designs that are really cute. I got to whoever is available and I've been satisfied the majority of the time. Parking is pretty easy too. If I can't find a street spot there's a paid parking lot super close.
Well over a year later (almost two) and Solar Nails is still amazing and my go to nail spot...specifically my girl, Ali! She has to be one of the best nail technicians at the salon. She's so talented and always pays attention to detail! I've been going to her for almost a year and won't go to anyone else! She has become someone I consider a friend! The prices aren't cheap BUT you get what you pay for and it's worth it! If you're in the area, definitely check Solar Nails and Ali out!
This was my first visit to Solar Nails and it was good. My nail tech, Alley was very nice and did a great job making sure my real nails kept their length. The shop itself is average size and the stations were clean and pedicure chairs were comfortable. There's also WiFi signs posted all over the shop which was nice. It's a few blocks from the Takoma metro station and located by a lot of other small businesses. The only reason I give 4 stars is because one of my nails is lifting. Meaning the dip overlay is loosening from my nail. That's never happened before but I want to give them a second try to fix it.
I received a gel mani/pedi at Solar Nails on Sunday, 8/27, and have been a long-time customer with no issues until this visit. 15 minutes after leaving my appointment, the gel on one of my fingernails completely peeled off as I was driving home. I immediately returned and got it repainted. I had noticed that the bonding agent used was in a near-empty bottle and looked yellow/dried out, so I asked if the rest of my nails were secure and was told it was fine. The next day I left for a two-week trip out of the country, and two more of my nails completely peeled off. Since I had already left for my trip, I was not able to return to get them fixed and had to find a salon out of the country to have the rest of the gel removed. The salon that I went to have them removed confirmed that the way they were peeled looked like a bad bonding agent was used. What's frustrating about this situation is that I have tried calling Solar Nails four times and have been told that a manager is unavailable to speak to. I've also left my phone number and have not received a callback. Additionally, I've reached out to the email address listed on their website and have not received a reply. I understand mistakes and weird circumstances happen, but to know that a customer has had an issue and not respond or address it is poor customer service and why I will not return to Solar Nails. After being a happy Solar Nails customer for years (even sticking them out through price increases knowing I could pay less elsewhere), it's clear that their customer service and quality has gone down. I'm bummed to have to find a new regular spot!
A lovely neighborhood nail spot. I've been coming here on and off for over 3 years now. My lady Mariela (probably spelled her name wrong) left in 2017 . So I haven't been back consistently since then but I decided to come back about a month ago to get SNS dip powder with tips. I unfortunately can't remember the young lady who did my nails but she did a decent job. My only complaint was she knicked me twice, once on my thumb and the other on my middle finger. Both fingers bleed a little. I wanted to wash the blood off but she just put some solution (not sure what it was) and continued to paint my nails. My nails lasted for about 3 weeks. Not bad but the nails I had before, which I had gotten done at a nail shop in Wheaton mall, lasted until I took them off to get these nails and that was little over a month. The shop it's self is very clean. I like how they clean and manicure my cuticles before they get started on painting them. I will say because of the convenient location of Solar Nails, I'll most likely be back but I'll probably go to another technician. I just miss Mariela . I wish I would have gotten her number.
I was impressed by Solar Nails response to COVID and reopening. They were able to take me for a mani pedi with a call ahead same day appointment. They had plastic barriers up at the front desk for protection and asked everyone to wash their hands upon arrival. Everyone had to wear masks. They have their pedicure seats spaced out with someone wiping them down in between customers. Their manicure station also had clear plexiglass for added protection. My mani pedi turned out wonderfully and the space is large enough to appropriately social distance at the same time! Only thing is I wish they had an option to pay via Venmo to cut down on passing credit cards or sharing pens to sign.
Let me start by saying I am INCREDIBLY hard on my nails. But I'm on day 17 of my gel manicure and there's not a single chip or sign of peeling. The woman who did my nails was incredibly thorough about cleaning up my cuticles and making sure all the edges of my nails were perfectly smooth and cleaned up. Solar nails has always been my go-to nail place but i think lately they've really stepped up their game!
Today is my mom's bday. Since today is my mom's day I said we can go where you'd like. She selected this shop b/c its close by her house. While we did not have an appt we were still seen. We did not get soap, cleanser or even bubbles to soak in. Our feet were placed in hot water barely even to soak. We both selected an OPI Infinite shine polish to which we were both told it would be $3 extra (like it was guac at Chipotle, sis...I got $6, goin head and paint our feet. Anyway mom was pleased & I guess that's all I care about. My pedi on the other hand...outside of the polish was sub par. I'm a runner so I need to get my feet soaked, rubbed & scrubbed. I often develop blisters or cracked heels as well. I did not believe I needed to 'instruct' my nail tech to get certain spots on my feet as they are clearly evident. I don't even know if they have 'signature' pedicures b/c non were offered. I also mentioned to mom that we got no water, tea, coffee or wine...I kind thought that was customary in most places. Welp, not here. If you want a quick job that may miss necessary spots then by all means this is your place. However if you want a semi spa experience, then chile...this ain't the place. Thank you
I really like it here... When it comes to my nails, I don't really explore - it's always gel manicure, regular pedicure and eyebrow waxing. I don't do acrylics and barely any form of design. My natural nails grow nice and strong so I do my best to maintain them like that and this is the only place that multiple technicians have done it exactly as I like. It's nice having more than one "nail person" at a spot. They run things smoothly and in an organized manner; if you walk-in, your wait time is not longer than what you're originally told and they take their time to do it right. Never had any issues here.

The worst SNS manicure I've had by far. The tech was very sloppy and left chunks of SNS on my fingers. She tried to clean it off by trying to remove my skin around my nails (why??). The finished product was very thick and looked like I glued chunks of white stuff on my fingers. The pictures below are the final product after another tech tried to fix my nails. As you can see they are blotchy, sloppy, and one is even chipping on the first day! Three hours after arriving and $76 dollars later I left with a decent pedicure and a botched SNS mani. Don't get SNS here. read more
Has a few hours to kill without the kiddos in tow and decided to try a new nail salon for a pedicure. Solar Nails acommodated me right away as a morning walk-in. The space is clean and well lit and well ventilated. There is a great selection of regular and gel Essi and OPI polishes. The massage chairs are awesome - they seem quite new and really, those big relaxing chairs are half the reason I go for a pedicure :) My nail technician was very sweet - could have been slightly more aggressive with the callous treatment but otherwise did a great job on my nails and feet. A regular pedicure is $28 and combined with a mani is total of $40. Pretty competitive. You can pay cash tip or add to your receipt. Drawbacks: No one answers the phone. I called four times to see if I needed an appointment or not and two times it just rang and rang, and two times it gave me the disconnected beeps. The music is not exactly relaxing spa-type music. If you want a little uncensored Kanye with your nail treatment, you probably will love it. I found it a little...incongruous with my otherwise serene experience. read more

The technicians at Solar Nails are all very professional and great at their craft. I received a perfect French tip pedicure and a great full set. They fit me in at the last minute and got everything done. I really annoyed getting to know the manager and the other people that worked there. Everyone was really friendly. They put a lot of emphasis on using non-toxic chemicals so if you're looking for natural options, this is a great place to go. Having said that, they don't do acrylics. They have plenty of other options. I do wish they had more colors to choose from! It's not scarce by any means but I didn't see a lot of pastels. There were a few colors that could have been added to their collection. read more

The staff were nice and the place was super clean. My issue is with the manicure itself. Full disclosure: I'm a bartender. My hands are in and out of water all day, 4 days a week. That said, I know and understand my nails won't last as long. HOWEVER, it has been SIX days since I've gotten them done. After day ONE, TWO of my nails had smudge marks. Day 3, at least 3 had paint chipping. Day 4, the pointer finger nail snapped all the way through the skin and bled and one of my pinkies snapped as well. The last set of nails I had were on for over a month! Only one broke within that time. I could have actually gotten a refill, but chose to get a fresh new set. This was my first time here. I moved to the neighborhood and it's closer than my last place and also more expensive. I'm not happy AT ALL. I will not be spending my money here again. read more

Lizzie did an amazing job on my nails. Besides being very attentive she was gentle and knowledgeable about the products. She did a dip on my nails and they feel so natural and look amazing. I was very pleased and booked a future appointment. I won't ever go anywhere else! Everything was tidy and clean. Really happy with the overall result and with her courtesy. read more

Small nail salon but great service! A lot of other salons near me but I always come here. They take care of you quick. Every time I come I don't wait longer than 5 minutes. I do usually come in the morning-noon time. Usually get pedicures. But have gotten manis. They take their time. They always come out perfect. And they give great leg massages! (My fav part) Paid 28$ for pedi. read more

Another solid experience at Solar Nails. I had the pleasure of having Yoselin as my nail tech for a gel manicure and regular pedicure prior to an upcoming Caribbean vacation. She was very meticulous and thus, my pedicure did not chip as quickly as it did the last time. In fact, my toenails looked perfect for a full week and only chipped after 3 days in a row of pulling my feet in and out of fins for snorkeling adventures. My gel manicure made it 2 weeks without a single chip, and is only just now starting to pull up near one cuticle. Also, at this latest visit I noticed you can now add the tip to your credit card receipt. read more

I've been getting pedicures for 20 years and this was by far THE WORST experience. I would give it zero stars if possible. I was excited to see a nail salon open in our neighborhood but was so terribly disappointed that I created a yelp account just to review this place. My toes are bleeding in THREE places ('m inclined to attach a photo, but it's pretty gross). After being cut up I asked for band aids and was told they didn't have any?! This is when I decided to cut my losses and leave without finishing the pedicure. Don't waste your time or money here. read more

This was my first time going here, and I was very impressed. I did have to wait for about 15 minutes, as I didn't have an appointment, but I didn't mind since it made me feel like they weren't rushing. My nails looked great and my feet were smooth. Everyone was very polite and I felt relaxed the whole time. An overall fantastic experience. Edit: this is still the only place I go to get my nails done. They do a great job every time and my nails always look amazing read more
Wow, I really don't have anything I dislike about Solar Nails! The salon is neat and clean, brightly lit, and in a location that sorely need a nail shop! My first visit was way back in January and Janeth did a great job with my gel mani and pedi. I remember there were only 2 techs working so the lady that came after me had to wait a loooong time for her turn. With that in mind, I arrived promplty at 10 a.m. recently. I think they've expanded their staff because there were 3 techs and a 4th came in about 30 minutes later. I didn't get the name of my tech this time but she was super nice and gave me a leisurely pedicure. She asked if she could use the cheese grater, which is considerate since some people don't like it. She also gave me a nice red, white, and blue Independence Day/Team Costa Rica gel mani. I'm very pleased with my experience! I think the reason the girls can come off as unfriendly is because of the language barrier. They want to help but it seems that besides Janeth, they don't speak or understand English well. If you can be patient with them, give Solar Nails a chance! read more
