We waited for over an hour for our food and unfortunately it never came. When respectfully asking the staff they were dismissive and rude. I used to love this place. We went today first the smell of mold was strong when I walked in but decided to go ahead to a table the waitress was nice but there were flies everywhere the booth and window seals were dirty and the fan above was on blowing caked on dust over the dining area and food, we moved to a different table our drinks came I poured the cream in my coffee it was completely spoiled at that point I told the waitress I was done and quietly left, I am sad to see such poor upkeep and care in the restaurant that our family previously enjoyed. Our second time going to SOL and still disappointing.Had Spanish omelet,buffalo chicken,fried plantains.The buffalo chicken tasted and looked like it came from a bag of frozen buffalo chicken you could get at walmart or kroger.Wasnt homemade by any stretch of imagination.The fried plantains were burnt and nearly inedible.The blackbeans on the omelet tasted,looked,and had the texture of beans from a can that came from the same walmart or kroger.Ive had real blackbeans cooked by real cooks and these arent them.The salsa was basically just diced tomatoes with no taste or seasoning.Nothing in our dishes was seasoned and was very bland and tasteless.Really hoped that there would be more flavor from a place that prides itself on cuban food.Probably wont return. read more

This place has Great Caribbean foods! I had great Cuban coffee an amazing Cuban sandwich some of the best corn bisque I've ever eaten!! Our wait time wasn't to bad about 15 minutes but this was graduation day for Ohio University!! The bar had good drinks they have Bloody Mary bar that looked good the service was fantastic the place was clean! Small place but they do have outside seating I loved the experience here and will make its must stop when I'm in town!! So much on the menu I have to try!! We had dinner and drinks here after a concert tonight, very enjoyable. We had a table of 9 early on a Sunday evening, and were the only ones in the restaurant. The server was welcoming and attentive. The cauliflower wings and plantains were very good. Cocktails were good, though rather light on alcohol. I had the fish tacos, which were tasty but were dry. They would have benefited from some sauce- maybe an aioli, and some lime wedges to squeeze over the top. We also got the chocolate cake- huge! I have warmed up to Sol over time. Initially, I found their dishes kind of bland, which I didn't expect for a Caribbean restaurant. When they first opened this second location on East State, things were not very well run. BUT, since then, I have been impressed with their lunch and happy hour specials. My favorite dishes recently have been the smoked florida fish spread appetizer and pina colada shrimp. And I love the island decor and laid back atmosphere! We went today for brunch and the blood mary bar. The bloody bar was quite extensive, although I was surprised to learn it was $10. I enjoyed the huevos racheros and had lots of leftovers. read more

I was in town for mom's weekend. Anyone that has gone to OU for mom's weekend knows it is a huge weekend for restaurants and bars. We check in with the hostess and then went to the bar. As you might expect they had great mojitos. We were seated after about 20 mins. Joe was our server and he was efficient and friendly. Our entrees were the Island Pork, the cuban sandwich and the mac n cheese with pork. Great portions and very good food. Atmosphere was busy but not loud for such a busy evening. The waitstaff gets 5 stars but SO disappointed in the food! The chicken tacos were literally a fried corn tortilla, a tiny bit of lettuce and super dry cubes of chicken. No flavor. A tiny bit of sour cream and some salsa in plastic cups on the side. Where are the entrees they used to have? The students have taken over and the menu is bar food with the pretense of "Cuban." This restaurant is something of an Enigma. The wait to be seated is incredibly lengthy despite the facility being vacant. I have to assume this place serves ghosts as well as people as there was once a distinctive moaning that was emanating from the kitchen. With a further wait time of 25 minuets to be seated and then served, it is truly a mystery how the lights are kept on. The food is all great, and they have a pretty extensive Bloody Mary bar, but the service and wait time is terrible. They have plenty of staff members running around doing unnecessary jobs and mundane tasks but not enough servers and bartenders. For example, there were two hosts for such a tiny place. A barback instead of an extra bartender. Took 12 minutes to actually get the bartenders attention to get a drink while waiting to be sat. All the food takes forever to come out, and the servers aren't very attentive. Also limited parking. But the food is all delicious and cocktails are great. I would suggest carry out if possible rather than enduring the wait. read more

Been here twice before, food was amazing and service was good! Today came for the third time.... walked in and nobody spoke to us. After about 10 min they asked us our name. We got seated after that. Ordered coffee, and asked for creamer. No creamer ever came. Had to ask again 20 min later it came and coffee was already cold. Then , waited an hour for our food. She also had an extreme attitude when we asked if there was any way she could discount the food since it was not up to standard. Will not be back. Toilet was not large enough for the average-sized man, floor was dirty, sink and door/door frame hadn't been replaced in 10 years and are head together with several screws inside of the frame. Overall this restaurant experience was terrible. Our waitress never introduced herself and acted like she was bothered by us evening being there. Multiple items we attempted to order were already unavailable even though they had only been open for 2 hours. What we did order was not worth the money spent. How can you justify charging $6.95 for 6 small pieces of fried plantains? The food has no flavor. I ordered the fajitas. They had no seasoning, the meat was rubbery, and the veggies were burnt to a crisp. Never received refills on our drinks. Waited 20 mins for our checks, the waitress verbally told us what we would owe and after paying asked for a copy of our receipt and realized we were overcharged for items. Saw many concerning things happen while sitting there and observing the staff. But the most concerning was the fact our waitress delivered the wrong food to a table, left the food sitting there. This isn't something I would normally waste my time on but I certainly don't appreciate paying for one food and being served something else as if I'm not suppose to know the difference between mahi mahi and tuna and cheddar cheese and mozzarella. They had what they call Smoked Florida Fish Spread on the menu. This was supposed to be mesquite smoked Mahi mahi. What it actually was was tuna salad with liquid smoke. $8.95. Next appetizer we ordered was deep fried cheddar cheese curds. What we got was mozzarella nuggets. My girlfriend actually called them out and we heard nothing from a manager or chef. I can only imagine what other kinds of substitutions they are trying to get over on people. Horrible experience though. We just paid the bill and left. The waitress was nice though.
