Our first time here while vacationing in Charleston, SC. Food and service were great. We started with chips and salsa, and then had the Mexican street corn. Apps were fantastic. We've only had takeout from SOL but they are amazing. We had Chimichanga, salad and chips with guacamole and pineapple salsa. The food was well prepared and full of flavor. The salsa and guacamole were both fresh. While we didn't eat at the restaurant, we did swing in to pick it up. The location was very clean and the service staff were polite and professional. We were in Charleston South Carolina recently and I had a taste for some good Mexican food, so we started looking through yelp to find a good spot. After reviewing all of the post we settled on the SOL Southwest Kitchen restaurant in Mount Pleasant . My first clue to my pending disappointment should have been the menu. It was very small with limited choices. There were no combination plates and no burrito offerings. Also to my surprise they did not serve retried beans . My wife ordered 2 tacos and their only option was soft. Again no refried beans, what they served were black beans over rice. I ordered the chicken Enchiladas with green and red sauce.The Waitress brought our drinks and we asked about chips an salsa? That ended up being an extra side. And what they served was awful. The chips were stale and the salsa was the very chunky kind that was right out of a can. I also ordered a cup of street corn soup, which ended up being the highlight of the meal. It was thick, hot and very flavorful . But back to the enchiladas they were awful. The sauce was bland , the chicken filling was soggy and had little or no flavor. Not only was it tasteless it was very visually unappealing . I could go on and on, but let me end by saying I've had better Mexican meals at Taco Bell ! read more

We had great food and great service for the seven of us on Memorial Day calling first to make sure that we could get that many people in. We walked right in and were promptly shown a table A variety of foods, mainly Mexican but one of us had a steak. One had the "street corn", an unusual treat, nicely prepared. My girlfriends and I attended SOL during Brunch on a Sunday. Mostly we were interested in the $10 bottomless mimosas. We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived at 10:45 to find no wait at all to be seated. However that was hindered slightly by slow staff at the beginning. It took a little bit to get our first round of drinks. The mimosa's were great, the Bloody marys I would suggest passing on. It was more like pure tomato juice and the "spicy jalepeno" was not spicy at all. Even my friends who hate spicy couldn't taste the spice. For Apps we got the trio of guac, queso, & pineapple salsa. We also ordered Tuna Pops. I just have to say that those Tuna Pops were probably the best and most unique thing I've ever had. Served with a side of soy sauce and a mayo based sriracha sauce it was PHENOMENAL. Honestly the next time I go, I may order those as my main course. The menu was a bit much having both brunch menu items and regular lunch items. I think they could do with downsizing it just a bit. It seemed that closer to noon they wait staff was better at keeping up with us. They were bringing around the caraffes of mimosa's and leaving some on the table for us to refill ourselves. You can't beat $10 for bottomless. We certainly got our moneys worth by staying until 2:30pm. As for the food. I ordered the fried green tomato BLT. It was okay. Didn't blow my mind but some of the other options like the lobster Quesadilla that a friend ordered looked super good! The atmosphere here can change completely between day and night. I have attended before for happy hour. With all that said, it is a little pricey but for the most part, the food is worth the price. read more

Great environment and great staff. Very popular with a strong local following. We were guests of friends and the staff knew their names and what they liked. The drinks were made correctly and very tasty - fresh and enjoyable (That's a big plus in my book) . All the food was above average. Some of the 4 plates were better than others, but all were good. There are two very important words I have for you when you go to Sol, BLACK DIAMOND !!!! This is hands-down the best margarita I have ever had! They make their margarita mix homemade for this one and I actually do not get heartburn when I drink one, or two, or even three!! It's rimmed with the black lava salt that is fabulous. And this isn't even mentioning all the wonderful food options they have on their menu. If you go here for happy hour and get A couple or three apps you will be full! Don't let that stop you from staying for dinner though, because the food is fabulous and on point as well. Looking forward to a little cooler weather so we can partake in their outdoor patio because it is beautiful. read more

Sorry to say that my experience here was not very good (food-wise). Server was pleasant enough, but the food left a lot to be desired...very "blah" at best. We ordered an appetizer to share, and then each of us had a main dish. The jalapeno corn salsa appetizer literally had no liquid in it and also no real flavor. It was just corn with diced jalapenos served on tortilla chips. A very strange concoction. For the main dish I ordered the chicken enchiladas. They were supposed to come "Christmas" style but only had red sauce (no green), and they too had very little flavor. Maybe we caught the kitchen on an off night (given that it was later on in the evening on a Sunday), but we left fairly disappointed. read more

Great food and margaritas! I love Mexican food, so I'm surprised we hadn't been here yet - this was my first time! I had salmon and avocado over Gouda grits - all of my favorite foods in one dish! My wife has wanted to try SOL for some time so we decided to stop by. Friendly staff and a nice cozy atmosphere. They have a very nice bar area and a large seating area. The menu offers a verity if southwest food and drink options. They specialize in tequila so if Margaritas are your thing like my wife your in luck. The drinks. My wife had a few of their different types of margaritas. She said they were good but doesn't think they add much tequila which is a shame considering that SOL sells itself as a tequila bar. We started out with a couple appetizers. I had guacamole and chips and she had the green chili chicken nachos. The guacamole was fresh and on point. The green chili nachos were amazing. Bursting with lots of flavor. For dinner my wife had the ribeye and I had the bison burger. Both were cooked perfect to our order and tasted amazing. Her steak was juicy and packed with flavorful seasoning. My bison burger was juicy as well and just simply great. Look forward to returning and trying other menu items. read more

Consistency is key and SOL has impressed me once again. After hearing mixed reviews regarding the food and service, I had to decide for myself. I stopped in last Friday to give them a go. It was the first weekend night of Restaurant week and being the new kid on the block, they were pretty slammed. I went to the host stand and was told the wait would probably be 45 minutes which was shorter than I expected. Now it's time to go have a drink and wait for them to text me that my table's ready. Again, I found the beer selection to be rather impressive and I ordered ecery IPA off the menu before the night was done. We had three of us dining and the restaurant week deal was for 2 people. We all shared the app and desserts anyway and just ordered an extra entree. It worked out pretty well actually. The salsa was really fresh and the queso was delicious. Mix them together for the perfect combo. I tried a taste of everyone's dinner at the table and I can assure you that the Carnitas Napoleon is the way to go. It's served layered like lasagna with tortilla, then pork and green chilli sauce, then another tortilla and so on. I believe it was 7 or 8 layers high. The presentation was unique and then when you slice into it, it's a big old mess on your plate. The pork had a little bit of heat to it and was unbelievably tender and moist. I had my heart set on the Chocolate cake for dessert but they ran out and substituted a Pecan Bar instead. The other option was a slice of Caramel Salted Cheesecake. We ordered one of each to share with the table. The big surprise of the night was that Pecan Bar. It was like a brownie with pecans all over the top served a la mode. Sol is an upscale Southwestern style restaurant. Don't come here expecting cookie-cutter "Mexican-esque" and cheap prices. Come to Sol expecting great high end food, which means higher than average prices. Sol is totally worth the extra coin though. I came in with the Hubs and wee one for a late lunch. We split an order of chips and salsa. I had the chicken verde nachos, the Hubs had the tuna burger, the wee one had a kid's cheeseburger. Every thing was delicious. The chicken verde nacho nearly blew my socks off! It was a huge plate of creamy, crunchy, spicy love. I am totally ordering that again soon. The Hub's tuna burger didn't last long enough for me to taste, so I'm guessing it was too yummy to share. He assured me that it was amazing. Our service was a tad slow, but we did come in the middle of a shift change so I can't fault them really. I almost forgot to mention the house margaritas we ordered. AMAZING. They were not the day-glow syrupy sweet concoctions that most places serve. These were proper cocktails, hand made and expertly mixed, and for $6 each they have more than enough tequilla to satisfy anyone. I really like this Sol location. The food is always on point. What sells this location to me is the outdoor patio. It's spacious and accommodating which is great in these times. The staff was on it on my last visit. They try to up sell well which is awesome for their business. I love the tacos but on my last visit I tried the salmon rice bowl and it was amazing. That dish is so packed with flavor and has a bit of everything you could want at a place like this. The chicken nachos were superb. After driving a bit and getting extremely hannngry, we stopped at this restaurant, also looking for well made southwest food. Walked in and sat at the high top in the bar for the window and husband wanting to watch some sport thing. A cold ish front had moves in over night so the morning air was brisk. I Asked for the hottest salsa and got it...yasss. The Habanero salsa was the right level of heat for us. The Bloody Mary's were fantastic. I ordered the Steak and Egg Tacos with Grits. My husband got the Chicken and Grits with a side of potatos. There is always something more enticing on my plate than his for some reason...lol. I also got a fruit cup from a side. When you are traveling and vacaying the healthy stuff is a nice refresh for an epic week of eating great food. I would definitely take this trip again and definitely eat here. The staff were super friendly and the food was a great find for someone searching for heat. Very disappointed! I wanted a margarita and chose their Solarita which is made with Milagro, Cointreau, and S&S. It was in a rocks glass so I felt the corporate shots would still make a tasty drink. NOT.... It was a very weak drink that even though it supposedly had 2 shots of alcohol all you could taste was the S&S juice. When I asked for a kicker the waitress said it would be $7 more. Just tried this place out last Friday for the second time. Happy hour some drinks and small bites. I was glad to be able to get a seat at the bar being that it was so terribly busy... of course happy hour. The prices and drinks were great, food was pretty decent too. I'm not a huge fan of how really loud it is throughout the whole restaurant and also that a couple bartenders looked less than happy to be working behind the bar. Loved this place! First, the margaritas that I tried were amazing - both the jalapeño cucumber margarita and the habanero citrus margarita. Only thing I'd change about them is to make them spicier! We had the salsa, guacamole and queso trio, definitely try the queso! I had the steak quesadilla and the chipotle chicken quesadilla - both were sooo delicious!
