We wanted to have lunch so we went to Agaves Cantina. The local recommended it, and they greeted us at the door and got us settled at a table. The ambiance of the restaurant was beautiful. Fernando was our server, and he brought out the menus. After talking with him, we decided on the Pollo A La Creme, Quesadilla Fajita, and Nachos Fajita. The server bought out some chips and salsa, which was a great start to our lunch. Both the chips and salsa were delicious, and everyone in our group enjoyed them. The server brought us out all our dishes, and they were all really well-made, delicious, and perfect lunch options. There was definitely enough food to go around for everyone in our group. Agaves Cantina is a beautiful restaurant with delicious and high-quality food.

We came across this place while we were in the area and decided to have dinner there before going back to the hotel. It wasn't busy on an early Sunday evening. We were seated outside right away and looked over the menu before our waiter came. The chips and salsa is a complimentary appetizer. We got a side of queso for an additional charge. The margarita was a nice kick to the meal. I got the combination plate and went with the two tacos filled with chicken and steak. It came with black beans and rice. Everything was flavorful and great. The service was quick and our friendly waiter made sure we had everything we wanted. We were able to enjoy our food and got refills when needed on the chips and drinks. I wouldn't mind coming here if I'm in the area again.

This was a great spot. My cousin recommended we come as it's one of her usual spots and we had a great time! The food was delicious and had huge portions for great prices!

It's a 3 since it's not great not horrible. They did a great job with the atmosphere. Huge outdoor bar and lots of tables. One Pet peeve for me is to have an outdoor space with no atmosphere and this did have that. Dog friendly too! Ok, so free chips and salsa. Definitely meh. Salsa watery- chips thick. Anyway, service was actually good so maybe all those negative reviews had them change. I got a street tsci and a fish taco. Both were fine. Rather stuffed so not skimpy. The "steak" was remnant bits if other steak items usually a good real steak would be little cut up pieces or cubed. Nope. My husband got the trio enchilafs. He loves mole - this was ok. So overall, not running back but if set come back we know to set the bar lower. The only decent Mexican place was in downtown chs and I think they closed.

Agave was a wonderful surprise! The service was exceptional both at the bar and with our server at the table, Wilbert. After a short wait, we got a table and were promptly seen. A manager checked in on us during the meal. The margaritas were made from scratch (not premade) and were delightful - At a $12 price point, it was exceptional value. A wide selection of beer on tap including all of the main Mexican brands. Wines were limited in selection and quality, but fine (wife doesn't like Rita's or beer). Chips and house salsa were delivered to the table. We had fresh guacamole and queso. The chicken enchiladas were served hot, moist and flavorful. The carnitas verde served with rice and beans was exceptional - great flavor profile, generous helping and moist. Our server, Wilbert, was wonderful. He offered suggestion and had a great sense of humor. Overall, Agave was a solid choice and some of the best Mexican in the area. The new restaurant is vibrant in color with open spaces and a modern decor. The agave harvest tools adorn one wall. TVs with sports at the bar. Outdoor seating and a garage opening. The service was excellent. The value was equally exceptional. It deserves a solid 5 stars.

Delicious food, wonderful service, fun ambiance! We have enjoyed dinner at Agaves Cantina a few times now. It is such a fun, friendly place. Staff are so welcoming and the food is abundant. I always order the Carne Asada, which is awesome! Ample parking too.

It was time to eat somewhere close to the hotel and I found myself enjoying the most delicious steak fajita quesadilla you'll find anywhere. Friendly service, cold beer while I enjoyed delicious chips and salsa while I waited for the entree. Curb appeal is on point and the two-sided bar was built for days like this. Comfortable room with plenty of sunlight and TVs at the bar. Food came quickly and I left completely satusfied and will be back again...maybe before I head back home on Thursday.

Agaves Cantina Mexican cuisine | Mt. Pleasant, Sc 320 W Coleman Blvd unit p, Mt Pleasant, SC 29464 Agaves Cantina - Mt. Pleasant, SC 3.9 out of 5 stars Agaves Cantina is one of those spots that immediately feels welcoming the moment you walk in. The staff is friendly, seating was quick, and the overall vibe makes it an easy choice when you're hungry and don't want to wait around. The menu offers a solid selection of classic Mexican-style dishes, and the atmosphere has that upbeat, casual energy that works well for lunch or an easy dinner stop. Now, here's where things got a little interesting. I went the healthier route and ordered a salad--which, let's be honest, isn't exactly what Mexican restaurants are known for. While they did offer a few good dressing options, the salad itself felt more like fajita meat and peppers tossed onto a bed of lettuce. Tasty? Yes. A little strange and not quite what I was expecting? Also yes. Points were definitely lost there. The chips and salsa were another mild letdown--perfectly fine, but bland and nothing you'd be telling your friends about later. Bottom line: Agaves Cantina is a solid choice for a quick lunch with good service, a relaxed atmosphere, and dependable Mexican flavors. Just maybe stick to the tacos or fajitas and leave the salad expectations at the door. Tik tok @we_stayed_there Online: www.westayedthere.com

Stopped in around 2pm on a Sunday for a late brunch. We were sat immediately and given fresh chips and salsa. The chips were warm and crispy! We both ordered a margarita which we loved. The mango one is pretty sweet but I really liked the regular lime margarita. Our server was awesome! We ordered the pork fajitas and my bf got the queso fundito with chorizo and the carne asada. Our food was so tasty and we had soo much leftover to take home! Next time we will be back for happy hour and will have to sit on the patio!

Eh just a casual Mexican restaurant, nothing special. Mediocre service, non observant waitress appearing with no desire to be there. Food was okay but very greasy also forgot my tortillas with my fajitas and the waitress never came back till we were finished with our food. Honestly wouldn't come back or recommend.

    Large interior dining area!

Ease of parking, an energetic bar and a large, bright and inviting dining area did not save this mediocre experience. For me, when it comes down to it, it's really all about the food and service. A basket of room temperature, tasteless chips and a small dish of watery salsa were brought to our table immediately after we were seated and our server quickly arrived to take our drink order ... a skinny margarita for me and one of the drafts for my hub. The drinks came quickly. My marg was underwhelming. While large, it had no buzz, was neither ice cold, nor refreshing, but rather, disappointedly underwhelming. Our selections were simple ... no starters, a bowl of Chicken Tortilla Soup for me and the Tacos de Alambre for hub. The food arrived quickly. The taco dish placed in front of Joe was missing the meat, beans and rice that he was expecting. Huh? It was a plate with three tiny sized tacos, each topped with a spoonful of pico de gallo, a few slivers of nopale, some queso fresco and two slices of avocado. I called over our server, questioned what he was served and reiterated my husband's order (which she correctly repeated when the orders were taken). She disputed and said that he ordered the Nopales. I nicely told her that Nopales did not sound like Alambre. Clearly irritated, she picked up his plate and told him the Alambre would take about 15 minutes. OK. (I am not a 'shrinking violet' in these situations.) My soup was served barely lukewarm so Joe insisted that I start while he waited for his order. I did not want to send it back as it had lots of avocado and did not want to take a chance that they would just re-heat it and not remake it. Perhaps, a mistake on my part. The bowl had an ample amount of chicken and rice and yes, the photo is beautiful ... but, the watery broth was in no way the rich chicken broth I was expecting (as cited on the menu) and was void of seasoning. Oh, well. Joe's dish arrived, maybe 5 minutes later. Unlike the business photo, again, the topping on each tiny taco shell was a mere large spoonful (I know my photo is deceiving). And, what was described as grilled steak with bacon, chorizo, onions and peppers was actually the thinnest morsels of steak mixed with the meats and vegetables. The grease permeating the taco shell made it downright nasty when picking it up to eat. The rice was tasty, a decent portion ... and the beans were good, albeit, a portion that could have been larger, considering the amount of liquid in the small bowl. The server never asked if we wanted another round of beverages. The check arrived and to our dismay, the Nopales (as well as the Alambre) was included. When I took it up front to remove, they asked if we received it. I told them that the Nopales was not ordered and returned to the kitchen. Begrudgingly, it was removed and I was handed a revised check. It was not a good experience and in an area with many Mexican restaurants that do this cuisine well, we both had higher expectations.

Solid 3.5 What a perfect little bar date night especially for HH. Loved the indoor/outdoor option at the bar with plenty of TVs to watch the game. We got a skinny margarita and a spicy one. The spicy came with a delicious rim that added to the favor. We were asked if we wanted free chips and salsa which came quickly, nothing to write home about but they would always give us more when we asked. Great place for sharing a pitcher of margs, some chips and a taco or 2. Solid food, average service, cute vibe

Everything went smoothly until about 12/12:15 when I was trying to check out and I could not get anyone to come over and get me my check. One of the bartenders stepped out for a bit and the other was talking to his wife at the end of the bar. I tried getting his attention multiple times when he walked by and continuously walked to her. (It was me and her at the bar.) I just wanted to leave. I ordered the buffalo fried shrimp that used to be good but was honestly awful. If I wasn't starving and in a time crunch I would have sent it back. Overall I think The Shelter is not what it used to be and I won't be going back. It used to be a fun spot with pretty decent bar food but it fell flat today. Which I possibly could have excused if it had been busy but it wasn't it was dead. The prices are a bit high for the quality you're getting.

I was a little worried when the website said call ahead seating was on hold thinking they would be slammed, but forged onward!' It was Sunday afternoon. I have read about nightmare parking but did not experience that at all. Zoomed right in. Yes, it was eleven bucks. I don't mind paying and refuse to get myself worked up over it. Ask for an outside table and no sooner did we sit down, the dolphins showed up!!! I consider myself an expert on dolphin spotting and had to show the table of 5 college age young ladies where they were located. They loved them as well. Who knew they would be so active in the middle of a busy waterway? As a former boat owner, I love watching those huge honkin' boats parallel park in between the baby ones. I do not have that skill , but it's entertaining to watch. Tyler was our server and was nice and attentive. Drinks were cold and quite good. I ordered a house Chardonnay and it was Cambria. Not crazy expensive either! Had shrimp tacos and steamed shrimp. So many steamed ones that I had a full meal the next day. I look forward to trying many more dishes. What I enjoyed the most was being part of a fun atmosphere in a fun place. Not a sad person in the place. That's always my attitude near any body of water. We had to try the Apple Pie shots since everyone seems to talk about them. This is way more complex than some apple flavor liquor. The ingredients take some prep work, and the result is something that literally tastes like apple pie. If they bottled this, I would definitely buy it. They have two specialty drinks, the Freshy and the Orange Crush, both of which are made with fresh squeezed juice squeezed right when you order. I had the Freshy which is orange or grapefruit juice with your favorite liquor. I chose grapefruit with vodka and even though I am not a huge fan of grapefruit the freshness and tartness of the drink made it quite enjoyable. My wife had the Orange Crush with Deep Eddy's O.J vodka, Triple Sec, Sprite and some of that fresh squeezed orange juice. It was nice and sweet which was good since we were ordering a lot of savory options. The Potato Skins arrived first and they were truly impressive. Good sized skins with the perfect amount of potato, not too thick or too dry and definitely homemade. They had mixed cheese, bacon and green onions served with sour cream also loaded with green onions. As far as all the potato skins I have had these were a standout. Next came the onion rings with an absolute massive serving for just eight dollars. You could tell they were homemade and served with a chili garlic sauce. The best part was the batter coating which was crispy yet didn't fall off when bent or bitten. They reheated nicely in the air fryer. Next, we tried the Toasted Raviolis which were filled with Italian sausage and served with a house made marinara. They were nice and crispy, but the true star was the marinara sauce which was thick and chunky with parmesan mixed all throughout. I wish they had more dishes that used this sauce as it was excellent. On the advice of some regulars, I tried the chicken fingers which were all breast meat, dill brined and hand battered. It was good advice since the chicken was juicy and tender with a flavorful coating. Sometimes it pays to ask. My wife ordered the thing they are known for their Philly Cheesesteak. She decided on double meat, and they were super generous to the point she looked at me and said, "I don't know how I am going to finish this!". This cheesesteak gets nominate for a lot of best of lists and I could see why. I liked that the cheese was mixed in with the meat and not just poured on top. She enjoyed it but said next time she will order it as is. This is a great place to hang out and relax and maybe catch a band or some bluegrass and enjoy a great meal!
