I'm a huge fan of both Taco Boy locations with the downtown one being my favorite! I ordered a quesadilla and it came with lots of veggies. I visited this location in Cinco De mayo, and while they were quite busy, they were able to accommodate everyone and keep up with the orders. They also have an outdoor patio which is well decorated and looks like a great place to unwind and have a few drinks! Definitely check out this place! read more

Went with a colleague for lunch and did the lunch platter special. I ordered a chicken bacon ranch taco and a baha taco. They were both divine. Also ordered refried beans and Spanish rice. The beans were great. The rice was meh. We started out sitting outside but the mosquitos were insane. We asked to be moved inside and our server was extremely gracious about it. Very convenient if you're visiting Folly Beach. About three blocks from the Pier. Theme is tropical with surf boards and such for decorations. Food was tasty. We stopped by for lunch after spending the morning at the beach. Nice spot to grab a bite. Nothing was bad or tasteless. Overall a good experience. read more

Taco Boy in Charleston is one of those solid consistent places were you will always find a table without a long wait. On a summer -not too hot- day we chose to sit on the patio in a shaded area and it was a lovely time shaded and cool. We ordered a pitcher of margaritas, which was really good and had at least 7 singles in it, so it was a great value. We shared the Nachos, which were good but could have used a better distribution of toppings to have a more evenly coated chip across. Also tried the chicken taquitos, which were good as a sharable snack. For the main meal I had the quesabirria , which was really good and large, I ended up bringing home more than half of it and I was very happy eating left overs for two more meals. I do wish there was a happy hour or some sort of specials to give me an excuse to go more often. Bonus point for Pepper, the resident cat that roams on the patio. read more

Grilled shrimp tacos were very filling and the fried chicken tacos are an interesting flavor profile. Reminds me a little of Torchy's. Tamarind aqua Fresca and Horchata were very good. 4 stars for the friendly service and the daily happy hour from 3-6.. The place itself is also nice, tucked away from downtown with ample parking. The chips are your standard chips which seem to be packaged. I went for the chicken tinga tacos that were not memorable. They were very salty and the chicken was dry. I did try the "famous" queso and chips fresh which tasted like melted Kraft singles American cheese which was a turnoff for me, but my friend liked it. My friend had a chicken quesadilla which she really enjoyed. I had a birria taco and beef with kimchi which both were too salty for me. The fried chicken taco and street corn were ok. We ate here on the first day of my first trip to Charleston and it was alright. We came with another family and we all got a range of things. I ordered the taco plate with one shrimp tempura taco and one firecracker shrimp taco. The firecracker was amazing. Cooked just right and the flavors were poppin'. The other taco was bland and the remoulade had no flavor. It tasted basically like mayonnaise, which I do not like. The beans and rice were good. The table started with guacamole and salsa and both tasted totally fresh. There was no question that they had just made it. And the chips were warm and crisp. I ordered a tequila, soda, lime and it was fine, but it's a no frills drink so there's nothing to report there. All the kids ordered pink lemonades and they complained of the sweetness. You heard me right, the KIDS, complained about how sweet it was. Naturally I had to taste it and, OH, was it sweet!! My kids did add a bit of water to them to offset it. I did not try the quesadillas but my daughter complained about the over-the-top amount of cheese it contained, so if ordering, you need to know that. But I know that is not a deal breaker for some. My son had the grilled fish taco plate, which I did try, and we both were not a fan. The fish was completely dry, overcooked and had no flavor, which my husband also said of his Birria taco. And the nachos (which my other daughter ordered) had hardly any carne asada (which you pay $7 to add), and was mostly loaded with lettuce under the initial toppings. It was more like a taco salad if anything. You may be wondering why I gave them a three. Well, some of the food was flavorful, fresh and tasted great, but then there was the other half that wasn't great. The restaurant is really cool looking on the inside and it has indoor seating as well and a large outdoor area so in that regard, they can accommodate a lot of people. Yet the bigness of the restaurant could explain why some things took a while to get to us (like our drinks). Because Charleston has SOOOO many restaurants, I likely won't be back. Still, if you're near by and you try it you may have a differing experience. read more

I have been to the Folly Beach Taco Boy many times but this was my first visit to the Huger St location. The outside area is very kid friendly. We enjoyed the fake grass area with cornhole. The food is just as good as the one on Folly Beach. Easy to park at, I would definitely come back with the kids. read more

This location was in a super cool spot hidden away by the freeway. I was with friends who have 5 kids so it ended up being a perfect spot for us to sit outside and they had an awesome play area to keep them entertained in a close distance. My enchiladas were tasty and the street corn was packed with flavor, super delicious. Reasonable pricing for drinks compared to other places in Charleston. This is a staple Mexican place for us- the wait for a table is minimal, the drinks are great and the outside are makes it a pleasant enough to sit and chill while waiting for a table. If you have kids the outdoor area has games and space for them to blow off some steam away from tables and the bar. The food here is always solid and tasty, service always great. My only complaints are it's too dark - can't read the menu - and the music is just too loud. read more

Not bad. Sit at the bar if it's busy and you're a party of 3 or less. Neighborhood is kinda shady. Parking is off to the side/rear of restaurant. Inside is modern and welcoming. Drinks- hibiscus margarita is a two thumbs up cocktail, pineapple margarita was the same fresh, light, easy to drink. Appetizer was street corn dip. Dip was hot and fresh chips were the typical chips you get everywhere else called Mexican. Entrees- cheeseburger quesadillas and choose three tacos. Quesadilla was very filling. We came here on 4th of July and immediately loved the vibes. Even though I didn't have a margarita, the did have a good deal for them and not a bad size here. Our worse complaint and why I won't come back is that chips and salsa do not come with your dining experience. You have to purchase them... for $10!!! Ridiculous. But, for $13 you can get the trio of queso, guacamole, and salsa appetizer. We ended up doing that because it made so much more sense, a much better deal, and you got 3 different options. The chips and salsa would not be worth purchasing for $10, salsa was good but not that good for the price. What a great place for basic Mexican fare! I love the quirky interior with its festive Mexican artifacts, lighting and mix of dining areas --including a large bar area with tables and booths along the walls. There are enormous outside areas available as well where one can sit, sip and dine - of course the outdoor area is pet friendly - Please note Taco Boy is concealed behind an enormous hedge with the letters TACO BOY above it--so as you approach on Huger Street don't miss the enormous parking lot right next door to the restaurant. Plenty of parking! Taco Boy is the place to go for great "uptown and out of the way" great Mexican fare and where the preparation and fresh ingredients are present in everything that we ordered.
