We went to RuRus with a family group. We didn't have to wait long for indoor seating but the outdoor patio is small and was packed when we went. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The bar is located at the front with large booths surrounding it, making the noise level about average for this type of scene.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We ordered the Skinny Mike Margharitas and tacos, bowls and other items. The waiter was really nice. The drinks were really good, but some of the food items were eh. The spicy tacos were really good along with the chips and guacamole. The main issue for a 4/5 was the chicken was good but dry and some of the avocado slices were brown. Overall, it was a good time and good food.

Passing through Charleston we were craving Mexican food. We had high hopes as RuRu's was in a fantastic location in downtown. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Outside seating, which we love, but on this day it was extremely hot and so humid, so we opted for indoors.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We were greeted and seated promptly when we arrived and our waitress was friendly and very attentive. Now, the 3 stars go to the service, zero for food and drinks. Our tacos were just meh. The meat was dry and our drinks, I probably could have made them better, and I'm no mixologist. Now, they do have fresh chips and delicious salsa, nothing spicy but very flavorful. We definitely would not stop here again, especially being from California we know good Mexican food. Cheers!

Love the tacos and margaritas. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Inviting location with friendly, happy employees.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Adi seems to be able to remember the names of all of the customers. My favorite is the seared ahi tuna with sesame crust, pickled cabbage, Wasabi cream, avocado and cilantro (Run Forrest Run). My guy likes the taco with seasoned ground beef, cheddar cheese, lettuce, Pico de Gallo and lime crema (Why So Serious). The salsa, queso and quacamole and tortilla chips (Three Amigos) are delicious also. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The establishment is fun, clean and you can be seated outside too.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] One of our fav place in town.

Good food, reasonably priced, slower service so be ready to have a slow down in your day. Had lunch on a Tuesday so maybe that is why service was slower? Looks like Happy Hour is a good deal! Would eat here again.

Coming from California it's always a challenge finding "good" Mexican food. This place was alright - lacked flavor in my opinion and wasn't all that right in terms of flavors either. They do recommend getting a pitcher for margs but the pitcher has SOOO much ice in it. The service was fine - our server was nice. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place overall is fairly casual and people just stop by with friends and family.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Stopped by to grab drinks before dinner at another restaurant and we weren't disappointed! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Yummy drinks, laid back vibes, and friendly staff![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food smelled and looked amazing and I wish I could have tried some, but will do that next time I'm in Charleston!

Came here with a friend while visiting Charleston. We came during happy hours and ordered the margaritas and chips and queso dip to munch on. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Sat at the tables street side, and enjoyed the view of the city.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Staff was friendly and was a nice time. Thanks for having us.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Fun place to go.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Good was food. Staff were very attentive. Tacos are a good size and very tasty. Love the drink options. I would uber if you don't live close by cause parking is hard to come by.

Food was just fine, could have been more flavorful, needed more heat. Nothing to write home about. Service was lacking. They concentrated more on the people who sat outside. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The vibe of the restaurant was awesome, loved the artwork.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

The tacos are the bomb.com! Our bartender was awesome and [[HIGHLIGHT]]the Olympics were played on the TV[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We sat here and enjoyed our lunch for hours.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I definitely recommend stopping here while in the French Quarter.

The queso was great but this was the most white taco place I've ever been to. I enjoyed everything I ate but there wasn't that spicy Mexican taste you get at most taco places. The service was nice but they kept forgetting the things we asked for, although we had slightly complex orders with a few alterations. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I liked the decor but the music felt a little out of place, it was like 2015 pop music.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

I know it sounds funny to rave about chicken nuggets, but these were honestly some of the best I've ever had. They reminded me so much of McDonald's chicken nuggets in the best possible way. I stayed for a drink and ended up getting treated to an incredible thunder and lightning show over the city. It wasn't even raining, which made it even cooler to watch from the rooftop. Between the amazing views, the friendly bartender who saved me from going to bed hungry, and unexpectedly fantastic chicken nuggets, this ended up being one of my favorite stops in Charleston. I'll definitely be back for another drink...and another order of chicken nuggets.

The roof top however gives off more of a college/dive bar vibe despite having a great view of the city. When we went on Monday only one bar, the downstairs one was open. Despite there being servers it didn't seem that anyone wanted to take tables so the solution was for guests to order drinks/food at the downstairs bar and bring it up to the deck themselves. While the bartender was nice, fast, and good at her job everyone else around her just didn't seem to care to provide service. The chips on the trio platter were beyond stale and since servers didn't care to serve the top deck tables were left unbussed and dirty. Not sure if this experience was a case of severe understaffing or just negligence on the management. I'd recommend going to literally any other rooftop bar for a more elevated experience where the staff actually wants to serve the guests.

Don't let the name deter you if you are not a gin person because they have many options with different types of liquors. One tip: sit at the bar if you can, the set up is stunning especially for taking photos! The cocktail menu was moderately extensive with two full pages of complex and simple cocktails. Honestly, it was so difficult to choose what drink to get because I wanted to get everything on the menu. The bartenders were so attentive and talented - their implementation of each cocktail was even better than the menu descriptions. Not only were the drinks delicious but also beautifully presented. They have some bar bites as well as quite a few small and large plates, we got the pretzels which to my absolute surprise were so good! You can tell the bartenders know exactly what they're doing. The surprise star of the night, though, was the grilled cheese. Calling it a grilled cheese almost feels unfair because this thing was next-level. Perfectly crisp on the outside, rich and gooey on the inside, and paired with the cocktails so well that we were talking about it long after we left. Sometimes the simplest thing on a menu ends up stealing the show. The atmosphere strikes that perfect Charleston balance of classy, cozy, and effortlessly cool. Great service, great drinks, and one of the most memorable grilled cheese sandwiches I've ever had. If you're in Charleston and appreciate a serious cocktail program, The Gin Joint is a must-visit. Come for the drinks, stay because the grilled cheese will ruin lesser grilled cheeses for the rest of your life

My friend and I sat at our table for about 20 minutes without anyone acknowledging us. I finally flagged down a waitress, who apologized and explained they were short staffed. She took our drink order, and then a different server came over later to take our food order. I ordered the Mediterranean wrap with no onions, but it came out with onions anyway. Our server was nowhere to be found, so I started picking around them and eating the wrap. A few minutes later, she came back with the corrected wrap, but by then I'd already started eating the first one. The flavors of the wrap were actually good, but the texture of the chicken was awful. It was so off putting that it honestly made me nauseous. I only managed a few bites before I was done, and no one ever asked if everything was okay or why I had barely touched my meal. That said, the restaurant itself is beautiful. The atmosphere is what really stands out. It feels like you're dining inside a church, and I believe it actually is a restored church. Between the stained glass, the artwork, and the writing on the walls, it's a really unique and impressive space. I'd probably come back for drinks because the bar looked like it had a great vibe, and the bartender seemed to be providing excellent service. Next time, I'd definitely sit at the bar, but I don't think I'd order the food again.
