The food was really yummy! Great service too! I would return. My mole sauce was the best I've had! I also had a street taco with Al pastor which was yummy and more traditional Mexican than most Mexican restaurants that Americanize their food for clientele. read more

Azul - Inside dining area - Sports Bars Near Me - Charleston, South Carolina

Azul was a great surprise while exploring downtown Charleston. The restaurant has a lively atmosphere with colorful décor and a welcoming patio area that's perfect when the weather is nice. The food portions were generous, everything tasted fresh, and the drinks were well made. Staff stayed friendly and attentive throughout the meal, even while the restaurant was busy. Great location and a really enjoyable overall experience. read more

Stopped in to watch the World Cup game. Sat outside on the patio which was nice. The service was good. The ginger margarita was excellent and would order those all night long. We just ordered a nachos plate with chorizo and it was very good. They have plenty of TVs to watch sports. It wasn't very crowded and the prices were reasonable. Would definitely try again. read more

What a great spot for a company party or big family get-together! There's plenty of space, lots of tables and chairs, and a full bar. You can sit indoors or outside -- the large doors were open when we went, and the weather couldn't have been better. Music was playing, and the atmosphere had a fun, festive Mexican vibe with colorful flags, handcrafted décor, and Día de los Muertos touches. The chips were a little on the thick side and the salsa was good, though not super memorable. We ordered the steak and shrimp fajitas -- delicious, but I always wish for more onions and peppers! The margaritas were strong, refreshing, and perfectly balanced. Our server was attentive and friendly, and overall, it was a really pleasant experience. It's a little off the beaten path for most tourists, but I truly hope more people discover this gem -- it deserves to be full and thriving! read more

Great location with covered outdoor dining. The food is decent but nothing special. The servers are quick and efficient and the prices aren't bad. It's definitely worth a try for a good meal without breaking the bank but don't expect to be blown away. read more

I love this place for a few reasons. This has hands down the best Mexican food on the peninsula. The fajitas are my favorite and I'm Sorry, they are so good, I never order anything else. The portions and prices are really reasonable especially for Charleston. What's even more amazing is how nice the staff is. Everyone is warm and kind. I've only ever eaten with my dogs on the patio but it's always been clean and quiet. There are a few Mexican places on King but none are half as good as this gem. It's worth the detour. read more

Azul - Fajita platter. - Sports Bars Near Me - Charleston, South Carolina

We had a bumpy first Azul experience. At least ten different servers, expos, and managers helped us during our meal. We were patient, proactive, and encouraged each employee to communicate/check-in with their colleagues. Three employees helped us with our bill. Unfortunately, our bill was still tallied/split completely wrong. We'd encourage Azul's GM to clearly define each person's role, set up zones, and step in (only) when servers get slammed. Margaritas were solid and we really enjoyed the cucumber marg. We had the fajitas, wings, chicken bowl, and shrimp. Price point is good for downtown. read more

A friend and I stumbled into Azul for one last drink before we wrapped up our night. I had a glass of pinot noir, and it was quite good, super reasonably priced, and a nice-size pour. The bar was full when we arrived, so we grabbed a table instead. We didn't buy anything to eat, but the food looked tasty from what I could see. Service was great, ambiance was chill, and we enjoyed ourselves. read more

Stopped here for dinner our last night in Charleston and had a nice time. I think with a little polish, the potential of this space is great. The dining area is huge, they have an amazing bar area and the outside dining space just has great vibes. Food is good as well. Complimentary chips and salsa were good, although the salsa had more of a tomato vibe than spicy flavor. But I like tomatoes so i wasn't made. For my entree, I had chimichangas and they were great. Lightly fried and with an appropriate portion size, served with amazing black beans, guac and salad. I really enjoyed my meal. Also, my cucumber margarita was great...so refreshing and light. Service was friendly but lackluster. For example, the waiter didn't write anything down and therefore got one order completely wrong and another partially wrong. We had to ask a couple of times for tortillas for the fajitas. Had to ask for other things we'd requested a couple of times as well. Again, everyone was super nice but there wasn't attention to detail where service was concerned. I would still go back, just keep your order simple and ask your server to repeat it back to you beforehand and you should be okay. This place is in a good location with a great physical space so the potential is definitely there. read more

This place has a gorgeous outdoor patio space. I loved the way the space was decorated and the tables and chairs were such a unique touch. When we were seated we got free chips and salsa. I ordered a side of guacamole to go with the chips. It was nice and fresh! For my entree I ordered the chicken fajitas and my husband ordered tacos. My meal did not come with the tortillas like it was supposed to, so I had to ask for them, which wasn't a huge deal. My husband ordered tacos asked for a side of cheese and no cilantro. Instead of no cilantro they gave him no onions and didn't give the side of cheese. He then had to ask for the side of cheese and picked the cilantro off. He has the thing where cilantro does not taste good to him, so it was a nuisance having to pick it off. Overall the food was great though besides those things. The portions were large. read more

Azul Mexicano Restaurant is located near Charleston Visitor Center is beautiful little place that offers indoor and outdoor sitting areas. The service is fast and friendly. The food is tasty, served hot and fresh. Portion sizes are on point and you might need a doggy bag to take home the leftovers. I love the look of this restaurant. The staff was mostly fast and friendly. We had over 20 people for a party and we all got our stuff quickly. We could not split the bill, which was annoying. This place was a pleasant surprise! It isn't rated great on Yelp and I'm not sure why. We were a large group and everyone enjoyed their food and drinks. I had the Chilaquiles Verdes and it came with rice and a guacamole salad. Everything on my plate was as good as it looks! The chilaquiles were great, with freshly made tortilla chips, shredded chicken, melted cheese and topped with quest fresco. The guacamole salad tasted fresh and was perfectly seasoned. I'm not a big rice person, but the rice was so good I ate most of it. And my pineapple ginger margarita was so delicious I had a second one. Despite our large party size, service provided by Dayana was great. We sat out on the side patio in nice weather and it was fun people watching. read more

We came in for dinner and had a good experience. The restaurant is cute and well decorated. I had a michelada and the fried chimichanga with beef. My drink and food were good. There was plenty of beef, the avocado salad was fresh, and it had well seasoned beans and plenty of cheese. Service was decent, but could have been better. Worst Mexican food I've ever had, of course I'm spoiled after living in TX for 24 years. Taco Bell would have been better. The service was fine, but food was no four star restaurant as Yelp says. Drinks were also very weak. Don't go there. read more

Four of us discovered this restaurant next to the Charleston Visitor's Center. It's so authentic, spacious and full of Mexican ambiance. Margaritas were fantastic and I was able to order a mini one, which was perfect for me. The chicken tortilla soup was huge, loaded with chicken snd so delicious. The rest all enjoyed the sope, enchiladas and tacos. Great lunch! read more

My fish tacos (fried) were very good. The cheese quesadilla (flour tortilla) was huge and very good. The salsa tasted suspiciously like tomato sauce, and the guacamole was better than a lot of restaurants but still not amazing. My margarita was so large, I had no chance of finishing it. Service was fast and friendly. Lots of tvs with sports on, including Spanish language. Bathrooms were pretty terrible, maybe because the bathrooms (and entrance) are shared with Charleston school of law. Indoor/outdoor option is great for nice weather days. Conveniently located to a lot. I'd probably come back because it's very kid-friendly, but if I were on an adults-only trip to CHS I'd opt for something else. read more

I was attending an event that was held here and really enjoyed the vibe of the place. I love that it is conveniently located next to the Visitor Center so parking was not a problem. Huge space inside and out. As you walk up you can see that you're going to have a good time. I was limited to what was being served for the event, as far as food and drinks, but was pleasantly pleased. I had chips and salsa, taquitos w/fresh guacamole and pico de gallo, and the best Tequila Sunrises ever! Our servers were very friendly and they kept the food and drinks coming. The music was great and all in all I had a wonderful experience. Will definitely be back. read more

Food was pretty good. I ordered the steak street tacos. They give you a lot of extra meat. However there are large strips of meat that are full of hard rubbery grizzle that isn't chewable. Service is the worst part. Sat at the bar and I was the only person there. Bar tender took my order and never to be seen until I was finished eating. No silverware offered, no refills of any kind. Water or salsa here. As I looked for help I noticed the bar tender hiding out of sight, while playing on her phone. I'm usually a gracious tipper, but it's earned not automatically owed. I would say the cooks deserved all the praise but not the service. Time: 1400 on a Tuesday. Maybe this was the island time parade in SC. Would give it another go before never coming again. The atmosphere was very festive and fun. It has a lot of potential. read more

If you had asked me what color I associated with happiness, I would have said yellow. Now I can confidently say Azul. I was nearby looking at the menu of a different Mexican restaurant. It was kind of pricey, and I wasn't really sure how good it was going to be. Being from Miami, I was skeptical as to how SC mexican would compare. "I wouldn't go there," a voice said behind me. "It's not very good." It was a college student. "But, if you like Mexican good, just over there is Azul." I thanked him and decided, you know what? Do it for the plot. From the moment I tried the complementary tortilla chips with their salsa, I knew this was going to be great. The SALSA was delicious!! Perfect, puréed and tangy. I ordered the three sauces enchiladas and mixed taquitos. I adored the green sauce enchilada, but they were all good. The taquitos were absolutely heavenly. I know that being famished makes everything taste better, but I'm fairly confident that between the excellence of my food, the impressive variety of the menu, and the contextually reasonable price, that this is (surprisingly) the best Mexican place I've ever been to. 100% will be back next time I'm in Charleston read more

Azul means blue in Spanish and sadly, we were blue about this meal. The restaurant is in a great spot in downtown Charleston and is nicely decorated. The staff is super nice and the seating and the service was quick. The food quality started with OK chips and salsa and then went downhill quickly. Our entrees were less than average, not a lot of flavor, not all that hot. Alas, we hoped for more, and probably will not return. There is better Mexican around Charleston than this place. read more

The chips and salsa were delicious! I'm pretty sure the enchiladas trio included some of the best enchiladas I've ever had! The house margarita was delicious as well. Definitely will be returning to Azul. Location is a bit weird as you enter outside or through the law school building, but interior is really lovely. Great theme & colorful without being loud or looking busy. Service was friendly, quick, and straight to the point, which I appreciated. STREET TACOS!!! I had the Al pastor and wow. I can't remember the last time I've enjoyed 3 tacos that much. Incredibly juicy, tender meat sliced into perfectly sized pieces. Perfect balance of sweet and savory from the fresh grilled pineapple pieces, corn tortillas were soft and fresh!!! Topped with cilantro and onion. Wow these blew me away 10/10 no notes. Husband had the steak tacos, also delicious! Priced wonderfully, satisfying in every bite. Complimentary salsa was great, chips were a bit old and not salted, no salt on the tables either. Cheese dip is plain white queso, still very good. Skip the horchata, it was chalky and obviously mixed in the back per order from a powder mix, nothing fresh or traditional about it or the jamaica. Can't wait to try the margaritas! read more

The lack of hospitality from the staff was so surprising based on my experience elsewhere in town thus far.

Azul is a wonderful Mexican restaurant in CHS, the best! I had chips and salsa, carnitas plate with pico de gallo, guacamole, refried beans and carmelized onions and home made corn tortillas. Everything was flavorful and delightful! I sat at the bar and Malena, the bar tender, took terrific care of me. I'm buying fresh corn tortillas for my next tex/Mex meal at home! read more

Hey now. Food here was pretty good. I was actually headed to another place but the concierge at my vacation club talked me into trying this place. There are quite a few options for Mexican or Tex-Mex downtown, but finally decided to try this place out. Went on a Tuesday, because who doesn't love a taco Tuesday. We ordered a margarita pitcher to start and it was definitely a great value for the group. I was so pleased to see that they had intentional vegetarian options. Our server was cordial and helpful when possible. Opted for the tofu out past store tacos and they did not disappoint. The Spanish rice was also delicious as well. My friends ordered a variety of things from the burrito to the nachos and everyone completely finished their food. The ambience is really decorative and goes for an authentic vibe, and the outdoor patio option is very nice and warm days. We'll definitely be returning. read more

We were looking for a dinner restaurant near the visitor's center. Azul had very cool decorations and we love Mexican food so we chose to eat here. They have the usual Mexican dishes as well as some specialties. The chips and salsa were standard Mexican restaurant as well as the queso. I had the seafood enchiladas. They were really delicious and the portion was huge. They are filled with grilled shrimp and scallops and covered with green sauce. The sides were good as well. Azul is the kind of Mexican place that both cares and can really deliver the flavor. Visiting town with picky family, came for the wide variety of menu items. They have it all including things like Colorado beef tips which I got, outstanding quite spicy sauce and a whole plate of sliced charred beef to add the sides to. Son found the Gringo tacos, they nailed what he wants at home--taco shell, ground beef with cheese and lettuce and that's it! Hilarious item. New vegetarian teen daughter found the Azul bowls, perfect and the gluten and dairy free wife got steak ranchero which came fajita style. Service is falling-over gracious, we had to ask for a side or two to be redone without an unexpected topping and it was no problem. Good drinks too! They have a big indoor and medium big outdoor space, acoustics a bit loud with the boxy space and hard surfaces but a lively and aesthetic look. Locals seem enthusiastic about it too. read more

We ducked into Azul to avoid the rain and decided to have lunch. We ordered the broiled fish tacos and the cheese steak burrito. The fish tacos came out fried and they remade them grudgingly. Our server was rather absent most of the time. When we noted that the fish was supposed to be broiled she walked away and returned with a man who spoke with her in Spanish without addressing us and then walked away. She took the dish and said it would be remade. But they were very tasty though they should have included more fish. The burritos were rather small looking but were very rich from the cheese sauce. The beef was stringy and tough. Mostly it tasted like queso. The margarita was very good, I can't recommend them. read more

This could have Easily been 5 stars except for Ivan's inattentive service!! The place was hopping for later dinner on a Wednesday and my party of 4 were hungry from a day of airports and travel. The restaurant is large and easily holds 100 guests or more. Tables, booths, high top tables, seats at the bar and covered outdoor seating available (weather permitting). Colorful decor, flags from ceiling and wrought iron fixtures. Meals are served on beautiful glazed ceramic plates with traditional Mexican colors, symbols and they hold the heat so your food is hot and you're advised not to touch the plate. Our drinks were very good, their salsa is addictive with light but very crispy corn chips. It took about 10 minutes before our server acknowledged us and came back in an appropriate time for drink orders, but took longer to be delivered. When drinks did arrive Ivan said, "I'll be right back" and then seemed to vanish. Our chips and salsa had also vanished because we were hungry and we were hoping for refills. I am a very patient person and give people serving the public the benefit of the doubt, especially when it's obvious that other waitstaff is hustling back and forth to their respective tables. Our server no where to be seen in dining area. Then he's spotted walking over to help sing Happy Birthday on opposite side of room, walking into area I suppose is kitchen. Gone again. Then I see him walking with empty tray perched on shoulder? Not delivering food or drinks; also not clearing tables. Just walking around. I Rarely call out to waitstaff, but it was noisy/ busy, and as he passed our table: no eye contact, no "I'm sorry I know you've been waiting, can I bring you anything on my way back?" Nothing. Basically ignored us. We drank our drinks and needed to pay, or I would've left. He comes back after an eternity and finally takes food order, which arrived in about 10 minutes- delivered by other waitstaff (probably because he knew we were pissed) I should've asked for the manager to address on the spot but we were tired and just wanted to walk back to hotel. I tip well as a norm, but not this night. But the food, drinks, ambience were all fantastic: clean, lively and noisy (but not obnoxious) because of the crowd, which is a good sign. If there's a crowd/ line, it's got to be good. Staff was hustling except for Ivan. You should still come try the food and I hope you have a 5 star experience! read more
