We visited a couple weeks ago and I feel like the quality has fallen from their opening 2 years ago. We used to come here every week, but little by little our habits changes as the quality went down. I do still enjoy coming for the nachos and specialty drinks, like the Harvest Pear Marg and the Happy Hour is nice too. The service varies depending on the time of day and the rush. We tend to go later in the evenings so it's not a slow as it is on other visits. We love the bright and vibrant atmosphere and the music. The murals are great and you find something new every time. I wish I read reviews before coming here...could have saved me one of the worst meals I've had in a long time. This is not even close to Mexican food. Chips were stale and most were broken like they came from the bottom of a bag. Nachos were disgusting. It was mostly white rice and minimal dry chicken on stale chips. We tried a chicken and steak tacos because they were out of shrimp. The meat in the tacos were cold, nothing authentic about them. Couldn't even finish the meal. The waitress was nice enough. Asked us how things were a couple time but then disappeared a good while as we waited for the bill. Staff looked like they just grabbed anything to show up to work in... not put together at all. We came in for dinner while staying in the area and found the experience lacking. Despite it being a Friday night, they weren't busy at all. Despite that, getting seating was a chore and the staff argued back and forth about which section to seat us in, in front of us, which was uncomfortable. When we did get seated, the service sucked. They were understaffed and the waiters were also busing their own tables, so it was hard to get assistance. Our waitress couldn't answer basic questions about the menu and was even argumentative when we let her know our order was wrong. The customer service was insufficient. The food itself wasn't great. The menu is kind of weird and it's definitely not authentic. I played it safe and got their seasonal taco: buffalo chicken. I also got a full order of their loaded tots. The buffalo taco was overly salty and lacked any flavor besides the salty sauce. The tots had a weird consistency and I'm pretty sure they gave me a half order because it was so small. We tried Condado after a beach day at IOP as we were all craving some fresh Mexican type food, but didn't want to go all the way down to Charleston for Bartaco. Everyone thought the food was alright. They were out of some items we wanted (like smashed tots). They messed up some other stuff (like my vegan create your own taco), but they took it off the bill, so that was good. My son's burrito came out with the cheese not even melted on the inside. Overall I felt it was a decently priced for what we got but middle of the road as far as Mexican from all the restaurants I've ever tried... but for South Carolina , it's still in the top five. The service was okay. We liked that they had outside seating because inside was just too cold. It did have really cool graffiti type artwork as well. I've been here several times and have always enjoyed their food and service. Their chips and queso are always tasty and I love their margaritas. I'm not sure why they don't have the best reviews? I always mean to take pictures of my food but always dig in before I do. My go to is the build your own nachos. I get the pork, cilantro lime sauce, black beans, cheese and queso on top and usually eat it until my stomach is about to burst. Don't let the other reviews turn you away, this place is great! I'll start with the environment, it's awesome. The vibe is very relaxed and modern. It's got a great feel. Some of the tables need to be balanced (I know it's an odd thing to notice but I do) The service was great! Our server was attentive and made sure we had everything, explained the menu, and didn't have to wait for our check. The food ... I wanted to like this place I really did. The queso all has good flavor (I tried the trio) but it cools down too quickly in the little plastic dishes they use and becomes coagulated. I expected the tacos to be warm, but they were cold and that was a huge turn off. I love that they are doing the double decker thing ... as a recovering TB addict, I approve. Conceptually this place is awesome , and as someone who has eaten tacos all over the world, I truly wanted to like the place in my own backyard... and hey if cold tacos are your thing (I'll never yuck your yum) this place might be for you, but it wasn't for me. We arrived at 8pm. Here is what you can look forward to: good service. The water was refreshing. I couldn't finish my frozen margarita (which is a first). The taste was way off and barely frozen. My bride had a bowl with chicken. She didn't finish after two bites. She reported "something tasted bad". She didn't want to risk food poisoning. I was blessed with cold Mexican street corn. Again it went uneaten after two bites. Now to the boiled/tasteless Baja shrimp. I Tried a shrimp and decided it wasn't worth food poisoning. We order some queso to start. The queso was average but the chips were old, broken and burnt. Our server stated they were ending the night and she would pick out some whole pieces and be right back. Thankfully she didn't have to do that and brought us tomorrow's cold chips. Save yourself some money and go to Taco Bell. It will still suck but at least it less expensive. The place is fun. Brightly colored walls. A bar for everyone to hangout at. Spaced out seating. The food: Not good at all. Very basic. Everything was stone cold which made it not palatable. I ordered a steak taco and a shrimp taco. The steak and the shrimp themselves were warm (not hot) but the rest was ice cold. The lettuce, tomatoes and everything else. The tortilla itself was cold. If you like tacos...you know! Greeted at front door and seated speedy quick. Brand spanking new so they're are a few things to be worked, but they are on it quick. Food is great and plentiful. Gluten free and Vegan options are available as well as some delicious proteins. Margaritas were very nice. There is plenty of parking. They have inside or outside dining. The music is super. The art work is by local artists and AWESOME! My phone died so no pics of art work or all of the food we enjoyed. Love that I finally gave this restaurant a chance! I've walked by countless times going to the bookstore next door but never stopped in. Our bartender, Andrew, was so nice and welcoming. I loved the cleverly designed murals on the wall. The angel oak in particular was my favorite. We ordered the chips with the street corn queso. The queso was delish, but the chips were a bit on the thicker side. I loved my make your own rice and beans bowl. This is -hands down - one of the best, if not THE best taco place in Charleston South Carolina. Their tacos are well priced and fat as hell. Amazing ingredients super potent beautiful flavor and an amazingly enjoyable atmosphere. The servers there are immaculate: Hanna behind the bar, Cara the manager, and Jen one of the amazing waitresses. Good God this place is amazing I go there at least once a week -if not more, and if I had more money I'd be there every night. If you get a chance, try the bad habit, and the hot one. After we were told by multiple people to try this cute taco spot out, we figured tonight was a good night to do so! Walking in - super busy! (Good sign??) I absolutely loved the walls - very flashy. Once we were seated (party of 6 - not too long of a wait. Maybe 15 minutes), we immediately placed orders for drinks and apps. We got the chorizo queso, street corn guacamole, and the house salsa. Street corn guacamole was TOO DIE FOR. My absolute fave thing of the night (aside my $4 lemonade lol). The chorizo queso was good too, I immediately tasted hints of brown sugar or something in it because it made the queso sweet. Salsa was good too, but nothing compared to the other two. Main course - sadly, everything was just OK. We were so pumped with the appetizers and how great the dips were that we thought the main course would have been on the same level, if not better. Everything was weirdly sweet? With 6 different people at the table, we all had the 2 same things to say about each of our dishes - it was just okay and why was everything sweet? I was so excited for this place! Luckily, I could definitely fill up on just chips and dip. So if you're looking for cocktails and guac, here's your place! The other day while shopping in the Mt. Pleasant Town Center, I was approached by a man promoting a new restaurant that was opening soon. He told me how the day I visited was the last day for their soft opening and it included free tacos and a free drink. So, we were already off to a solid start. When you first walk into Condado's it is impossible to miss the incredible artwork all over the restaurant. I later found out, it was completed by multiple local artists and how each picture has a connection with Charleston and the surrounding area in some way or another. Though the staff were all still in training, everyone was very attentive and very knowledgeable about their menu and the things they had to offer. After brainstorming with the bartender for a little I settled on Lucy's Fire and Sweet Heat tacos. Both tacos were a hit! From all the different flavors that came together so perfectly to the way they use both hard and soft taco shells. You never know how much you'll appreciate hard and soft shells together until they are both working in unison. I also ordered a pineapple margarita, and what makes this drink special besides how good it tasted is the freshness of the ingredients. The pineapple flavoring was very refreshing, and I was pleasantly surprised to find out that they blend fresh pineapples to make the puree that is added to the drink. There was even a little surprise with the chorizo queso I had also ordered. There was an ever so faint hint of cinnamon that came through the delicious cheesy goodness. * I promise you will not be disappointed* Overall, I had a very favorable experience. Condados will be the perfect place to bring a friend who may be visiting you in town, or a cool spot to meet a larger group of people with plenty of seating in and out.
