And you have to write your order on a sheet and if you need help you put up a card on the table then someone can assist you. But not like a regular restaurant where they check in on you. I'm not sure what happened, we were seated, our order was taken. It was fairly simple. A couple of adult beverages, and sweetened tea. The drinks and appetizer can immediately. Then the tacos and food we ordered took quite some time. My family was busy talking, we honestly didn't even notice the time going bye. The manager actually approached our table. He said he realized we hadn't received our food for some time, and not to worry, the tacos were on them. It was nice that he was proactive on the situation. When the food arrived, it was delicious. Bar Taco is awesome. The food was absolutely amazing -- everything we had was fresh, flavorful, and seriously good. But what really made the experience was our server, Ava. She was fantastic friendly, attentive, funny, and just made the whole meal that much better. Honestly, Ava should probably be in the back helping create the menu because she clearly knows what's good! Great food, great atmosphere, and an even better server. We'll definitely be back! We came to Bartaco for lunch. They don't take reservations, so we waited about 30 minutes at the bar, which turned out to be the best decision we made because we had such lively conversation with our neighbor (an investment banker) and our bartender, Duncan. Both made our day! I will say: Duncan makes the best Berry Coladas!! That drink is SO GOOD! it tastes like a coconut berry smoothie (we got the alcoholic version with rum, but there's a nonalcoholic version as well). Once our table was ready, we were moved to a booth. The overall decor is coastal and cute, with basket-lighting, wooden booths, and multiple ways to order! You can order via your server, QR code, or a paper ballot. We started off with the large sized chips & guac. I was skeptical at first because the guacamole doesn't have tomato, but it was VERY good! We devoured it! For tacos: we got: The baja fish taco: one of my favorites--the fish is perfectly crispy The crispy duck taco: good! Not super crispy, but definitely tasty The cauliflower taco: a surprise hit! I found the flavors very refreshing and well seasoned! The tuna taco on a bed of lettuce: this one can get messy. I ordered with my stomach instead of reading the fine print that it doesn't come in a traditional taco tortilla. The overall taco is good and the tuna has excellent flavor. The taco does come loaded with a sauce that tends to spill--so eat over the tray! My sister got the carne asada taco, and she felt that it could have been better. She felt the carne asada itself was bland and relied on the sauce for flavor. I'm usually skeptical of chain restaurants like Bartaco, but I've been pleasantly surprised: their food is reliably good! (Of note, the Bartaco in Hyde Park Village in Tampa DOES take reservations, unlike this one). I wish this Bartaco also took reservations. On busy days, you can easily expect a 30-45 minute+ wait to be seated here. That being said, the guacamole, the drinks, and the tacos are overall very good! I found that ordering 5 tacos was more than enough to fill me. This location is definitely busy. We put our names down for a table and were told it would be a 30-45 minute wait, but we waited well past our quoted "wait time" and did not receive any updates. We ended up ordering food as pickup instead, and we got our meal within 20 minutes, so I would suggest ordering for pickup over dining in. The tacos were all fairly priced, and we were all quite happy with what we ordered. I will say they missed a taco on our order and did not quite follow the modifications we made to some of the tacos. Wow! This place is amazing!! Came here with two very close friends to fill our tummy's before a night out to town! Wonderful service, I really appreciate the card raiding system to call attention to the server instead of trying to wave them down. What I ordered: Spicy Margarita, plantains, summer duo (lobster taco and a ribeye taco) and the ahi crispy bowl. The spicy Margarita was so good, probably one of my favorites. When we finally figured out what we wanted, the piece of paper sat on the bar waiting to be taken. The order was taken from a piece of paper that we filled out, and I'm assuming input into the system. We finished our drinks and we're ready for round two. I looked at the clock noticing it was 730, an hour before happy hour started. Someone sat down next to us, I assume who worked there and was off that day and asked if I had been busy to which the bartender responded "no". Meanwhile, my water, glass and my cocktail were empty. They remained empty for 35 minutes and our food never came out in that time. When we were finally able to get their attention she went to look at the order and sure enough came back with it, which tells me that it was likely sitting under a heat lamp. This place was really fun to go to when I was here visiting friends out of town I definitely said the tacos are a five out of five they were definitely fire I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the ambience. It was super fun and there was just something about it that I really did enjoy somewhat noisy, but the four of us still were able to have a conversation. The thing I didn't like and why it loses a star is, I really hated the way the service was done. I really hate the QR codes and it made it very difficult to know what was happening with our food and when it was coming out, I think that if they got rid of this and just went back to what waiter and waitresses do I think that would make service feel a lot better and not so confusing. I really didn't like this whole put your menu up put your menu down and it felt sort of like you were at a weird cafeteria, but it was a sitdown cafeteria. I don't know. Food was decent - nothing insane but not bad whatsoever. The servers were kind and friendly albeit a little slow but it was busy. The salsa and guacamole dip trio was a great starter. I had the lunch combo of the shrimp bowl and salad. Again, nothing to write home about but it was a solid lunch.
