Nice entrance

Went here for chips/salsa and guacamole which was quite tasty, and guacamole is chunky as it should be. That to me speaks volumes of the quality of food, which I haven't tried yet. Typical beer and margaritas here, lacking in IPA's and stronger beers. Service was great here !

Located off of Trolley Rd in an easily accessible area, Villa Cantina is a Mexican restaurant that warrants attention if one has that Tex-Mex itch. Walking in there's a lot of soul to the place, hats, murals, balloons, flags and all things that scream authenticity. I rather like that as it gives character to a restaurant in these days where everything is sterile and uniform. Walking in, my extremely nice hostess was quick to seat us on a slow day yet the waitstaff was a bit slow. First up the traditional chips and salsa were ok. The chips are light and salty however the salsa was a bit bland devoid of anything interesting. I think anyone who likes what has become a staple of "Mexican food" will find it agreeable. My formally significant other decided to order a margarita. The flavors were vibrant, although the tequila was used sparingly. It was like an adult drink with training wheels or something for a beginner. Aside from the drinks, I debated a big plate of nachos however having just moved from Austin and frequented the home of street tacos in America - San Antonio, I decided to order two tacos. The first was the Al Pastor. The pork was moist and had a slight welcoming char while the toppings of cilantro and onion added a nice "oniony heat" and smooth cilantro to balance out the flavor while a nice hit of lime really added a spark. My shrimp taco was very good too with 3 huge shrimp and were well seasoned and not overcooked. I liked the tortillas for both as they were airy but held together well and was satisfying. My former girlfriend ordered the three cheese enchiladas. I really liked the tartness of the green sauce as the tomatillos were in rare form while the cheese rounded out the flavor with a smooth milkiness. The tortillas were flaky giving way to the fork while inside the cheese offered some resistance and a nice filler. The enchiladas were basic but extremely effective as a great little dish. It wasn't the greatest I've had but it did the job. FYI - the red rice was pretty darn good! I could taste the rice being toasted in lard (or some fat) and separate kerns however if it would have had a little more seasoning it would have been perfect. At Villa Cantina, the food is above average, the staff is nice and decent speed while the atmosphere is fun and lively. Considering it's close I'll make an effort to come by and order some fajitas next time. I believe this will satisfy anyone's cravings and leave you stuff like a burrito.

This place actually surprised me. I've been skeptical about Mexican places in Summerville but we came here because we saw a coupon on our Harris teeter receipt! lol very decorative and colorful that resembled some cities in Mexico. My server (I wish I knew his name) young handsome fella took great care of us. Street corn was flavorful, my husband got a lunch special and I got the authentic tacos with lengua and steak. Good quality and flavorful overall and had a good experience. Will be back for more tacos!

Fantastic ambience and service, food was delicious. We love the cheese dip, Texas rice, cheese enchiladas, taquitos, and chili poblano. Our service was outstanding also. We've tried multiple Mexican restaurants in Summerville and this is our favorite. Great atmosphere. Looking forward to our next visit !

Chicken chimichangas

Restaurant is under new ownership. I met up with a large group of friends. Waitress was great...very patient with some in group asking about specific ingredients. Restaurant was clean. We were seated in the area next to the bar. I was surprised not a single person sat at the bar the entire time. I ordered chicken chimichangas. I was surprised when she asked if I wanted fried...aren't they always? Portions were perfect along with beans and guacamole salad. Everything was fresh and tasted delicious. I also really liked chips and salsa. Salsa had great flavor and not too spicy hot. Menu is more extensive than other Mexican restaurants in the area.

Excellent food and service from the start. It was a Friday night and we all needed to catch up with each other. Our server was attentive but not pushy. Happy hour is a great deal and medium or large margarita comes with a tube shot of tequila. The salsa was delicious and fresh and everyone greatly enjoyed their meals. We will be back!

I wanted to like this place so much but sadly they failed in so many ways that I just couldn't get past them all. I'm sure every waiter is different, but the woman we had was awful- she would walk away before we finished talking, forgot items, and took a wrong order. Also: -dirty fork -mixed drink was watery -house hot sauce has a slight kick of heat but no actual flavor -elote (corn) was awful; tasted sweet (?) -overall, pretty bland Highlight was the chips and salsa

Food was phenomenal. The new ownership really turned this place around. Best street tacos I've had since San Diego. Chips were light and airy and delicious, the small cheese dip was HUGE and salsa was perfect. New favorite place in Summerville. Much more attractive decoration and service was excellent and very fast.

Good Saturday afternoon! This is my first post in a while, what can I say, life has been happening. Time is 12:52 on a Saturday..not a bad crowd.. was sat right away and got my beer!! XX with a lime! Super yummy! I'm looking for 2 tacos, with rice and beans..it's not on the menu so my server is going to ask! Gaining points in my book! well she came back and they can do that meal for me! great news! I also LOVE the free nachos and salsa.. I really miss my old life..hubby and I would go out for lunch every saturday and i would write a review of the restaurant...well, sadly hubby passed away unexpectedly in December so here i am alone eating lunch..ugh Tacos taste good!! Like yummy good! And of course I had to mix my rice and beans together..I'm still a kid at heart! All is tasting good and my server has been attentive but not overbearing!! Lunch was great and it was quick! Time is 1:15 and I'm done eating, table is cleared and just waiting for my bill..$19.80 for lunch..not bad I'd say! All in all a great visit! I will be back!

Got 3 pastor street tacos and they were huge, loaded with delicious, flavorful meat, and so irresistible I ate all 3 and didn't take a picture! The free chips were thin and crisp, the salsa was super-fresh and not spicy. The housemade hot sauce is thick, loaded with spicy smoked chiles and will hurt you in the best way. I got free cheese dip and it is the best anywhere! Not gloppy, powerful cheese flavor- Monterey Jack? The banderita burrito got rave reviews, and I haven't had my chile poblano yet because I filled up on chips, but it looks amazing! I will consider leaving the house to dine in someday because I know it's even better on-site, and they're definitely in my Ubereats favorites.

We started with chips & salsa and the guacamole which was absolutely fantastic. I also had a huge & delicious margarita! For my entree, I ordered the "combo chico" which was one item of your choice (I picked a chicken taco) with rice & beans. It was a good portion size as I wasn't that hungry after all those chips & dips! We will definitely be back for more ;)

She did a good job. The food was expensive. We've never paid $10 for queso, which was overly thick and barely warm. The interior smelled strongly of mold so we asked to sit outside. There was no ambience. The ambience inside was also terrible, no decor at all. The music was unpleasant too. No rap please. The enchilada sauce was very strong tasting mole. The cinnamon and clove was overpowering. The chile relleno was small and the sauce tasted more like marinara sauce. The child's quesadilla was not warm enough and the cheese was like mozzarella. The rice, beans, and chips were good though. The margarita had way too much mix that was too sweet. For three of us the bill was $90, with only one drink. There are many other choices of local Mexican restaurants that are very good. Next time we'll return to El Jalapeno, Villa Cantina, or El Patron, all of which are reliably very good, with pleasant atmosphere.
