There's a reason this restaurant has been around forever. The service to be seated, drinks and food orders taken is always quick. The Jamaican aguas frescas is a nice option for a drink! I tried the Pollo a la Pina which is chicken shrimp and pineapple. The chicken was super tender and very flavorful. My husband's nachos were good, he said it was nice having plenty of chicken for each nacho. Came for a late lunch with my brother and had a great meal. Walking in you can tell that they are definitely a step up from your standard Mexican restaurant, but it's also a little dated now. It's really just the big glass light sculpture over the bar that reminds me of a Chihuly art. We started with some queso with chorizo and the free chips and salsa. I had a soda and my brother got a margarita. For entrees we had the chicken and shrimp fajitas and the enchiladas. Everything was good, but pretty standard. The reason I mention that is because the bill after tax and tip was over $80 which I had a little sticker shock over. I know they are trying to be a nicer option and food costs have gone up, but that seemed pretty high for what we got. During the meal, our service was excellent... so much so that we noticed and commented on how on point our server was. My brother mentioned that he hoped she didn't screw it up by being nowhere to be found when the meal was done and that's exactly what happened. I think she may have actually left the building because we never saw her again. Eventually we got someone else to get a togo box and get the check. We love this place! Food is pretty awesome. Not the best Mexican I've ever eaten but I've never had a disappointing meal and actually we've really enjoyed everything we've eaten there. The prices are great and we love the chips and salsa. My boyfriend loved the fries and fajitas meal. I personally love the chile relleno. Only downside is the margaritas. They leave much to be desired and are overpriced, especially for the size. We've always had good service though! read more

My mom and I wanted a quick lunch in Moncks Corner one Saturday, and El Maguey was a great choice. I didn't expect a restaurant in Moncks Corner to have such a beautiful interior and bar area, complete with gorgeous lighting fixtures, murals on the wall, and lots of TVs showing the day's football games. The bar had all the spirits as well as frozen drinks, but with a drive back to Charleston later that day, I didn't partake. The warm tortilla chips and salsa had just the right amount of heat, and the servers provided us with enough salsa- both spicy and mild varieties. My mom had the chicken taco loco lunch special, and I had a shrimp quesadilla, which came with a guac salad and rice. The quesadilla was very cheesy with plenty of shrimp. Everything was delicious, and our server checked on us and brought us waters to go. This isn't your typical "greasy" Mexican restaurant, so don't be fooled by the exterior- especially since the parking lot does have some dirt and potholes and needs some repaving and lines. We won't hesitate to return to El Maguey the next time we're in Moncks Corner. read more

This place used to be our go to when in the area. Something changed. Menu is ridiculous, prices went way up. I know things went up I understand but, this is not worth that kind of money. No kids menu-..I'm not paying 12-17$ for food for a kid that will not eat it. Kids menu is a must have. Period. Taco fell apart. Put on a taco holder or separate plate at least. Food went down hill, food cost went to Biden approved prices. Service was ok, but looked at like I was stupid for asking for kids menu. Salsa was great. Will not be back unless I hear they changed menu & add kids menu. Simple, chicken and fries, cheese quesadilla simple stuff is fine. read more

We have been going here for over 8 years. The last couple times the food had change some things were off the menu. The margaritas were slightly different. But tonight was the worse yet. The. Milanese was over cooked, dark brown, dry. We complained to the waitress. She went to the manager with the plate and came back with the same plate to inform us, another one would be cooked just the same. She would be happy to bring us back the menu, we could get something else. Our cost. After we finished our drinks, appetizer, and side dishes. We asked to speak to the manager. In a nut shell, we were told they changed kitchen staff and that is how they cook that dish. We explained we have been coming there for almost 9 years for the Milanese, and it has always been good until now. She seemed to be uninterested in the fact that customers are finding a problem with the kitchen. I doubt we will be back. Which is sad read more

The service is spot on, at least for us it was. The ambiance, very cool, I like the decorations and the layout, its always clean. The lights at the bar are cool too. The Fajita for 2, chincey. Too many veggies, skinny, small pieces of chicken. Defiantly not worth the money. The Texas dip, my usual, shy on the protein. Supposed to be shrimp, steak and chicken. Small, skinny and not enough. More veggies and cheese sauce cause that cheaper in my opinion. It has not always been like this. These entrees used to be plentiful... and, they went up on their prices. My wife and I ate Lunch at El Maguey today ( 9/19/2025 ) and were Very Very Disappointed in the food today. We always eat at least once or twice during the 4 days in Mocks Corner that we do twice per year. Normally I always get the ( Texas Fajitas ) and really enjoy it immensely. Today though I had trouble finding it on your menu so I got the New Steak Fajitas and was terribly disappointed in both the quantity of what was delivered to our table and the just downright pitiful variety of what was a ton the plate. Normally we always remark on how delicious the food is as well as how much of it we take back to our rental cottage for later. Not today. For a ( $ 20 ) plate I expected the same that we've always gotten from there but just didn't happen today. My wife usually gets one of your salads and was always more than she could eat but today's Cabo Salad was on the level of a ( Side Salad ) instead of an Entree salad meal. There was barely more than a 1/2 cup of lettuce on it. We kept looking at each other wondering where the other half of it was at. I don't normally write such negative reviews or feedback but we were looking so forward to another great meal like usual and was sorely disappointed to say the least. Way to go El Maguey - you just lost two customers for life now. Pondering now whether to leave a real review on FB and Google . The only redeeming thing about today's experience was the great server we had. She did great !!! Hope you do something about this matter to vastly improve what we complained about. Once seated, you're provided with warm tortilla chips accompanied by mild salsa and hot salsa. The hosts and our waitress were very friendly and attentive. We visited during lunch time and they had a nice steady flow of customers. The place was quite big and offers a nice size bar to sit at. I ordered the Quesadillas Mexicanas and I loved it (I order quesadilla a lot at various restaurants and these ones are up there in the ranking!). If I'm ever back in this area of SC again, I will definitely re-visit! read more

Wow! On our way back from a meeting and decided to stop for lunch based on Yelpers. This a solid Mexican Stop!!! We had fast and EXTREMELY great service from Yuridia, so ask for her if you can!!! We had the sampler appetizer plate which was huge and very tasty; get it! Tried to order a tamale but they were pork; so I can not tell you how great it was. I know it's unpopular to not eat pork in the south. We had a taco/enchilada plate and a regular lunch enchilada plate, solid and full-o-beef!!! The sauce is flavorful without overpowering the dish. Fried ice cream was right on time. Rice and beans were great as well. Not sure what part of Mexico this family is from but they deliver a solid experience. read more
