We've been patronizing El Maguey for years and love it still to this day. Get the cheese dip! I really don't see our family going elsewhere. The staff are courteous and attentive, and they also make excellent recommendations. I try something different, pretty much every time we eat there. Judging by the parking lot, it seems that many other folks feel the same as we do. They also have many large screen televisions, so one can keep up with their favorite teams while enjoying their dinner and conversation. Was staying in area overnight for work. Saw this place on my way in. Good looking place. Could be a little brighter on inside but most folks probably like it that way. I ordered the Pinapple fajitas. Stopped in to satisfy my craving for fish tacos. I decided to order it as a take out. When I asked if they served fish tacos 3 people had to study the menu before they finally said yes. They rang me up for 6.63 and I paid. They later came to me and said i would need to order more fish since the fish came packaged in 3? What? Okay ... I am easy going and to upgrade that meant it would come as a meal. Which I didn't want but I figured I will support this business. They asked me to pay 3.83 more for the meal. I did. I didn't trip. Was really bad. It didn't smell great on the outside it was the dumpsters.. we walk inside and it still didn't smell that great it smelt funky. We gave it a chance anyway We were seated the waitress was okay.. not really upbeat just kinda monotoned. The food arrived and it wasn't good the chips were stale and tasted old. The dip was greasy. The tortilla wrap was stale. My avocados were brown... to top this off a random waitress walked by our table and gave me the death look and stared me down (I did not know her) ???? I kinda laughed about it and let it roll off like rain on my back. My man started to feel sick so we got the check and got the heck out. I was pleasantly surprised when I went here. I wasn't expecting half as much food as I got, and I wasn't expecting the food to be as fantastic as it was. The quesadilla is one of the best I have ever had, and the ranchero sauce was to die for. The staff was so-so, but overall a great experience. Just went to pick up my online order. So me being me I usually check my food before I leave just in case. Well, luckily I did because I ordered churros for dessert but they just gave me sopapilla's. The sad part is that when I got my food the young lady didn't even say ma'am we were out of churros so we replaced them with sopapilla's. They just gave it to me like you are getting this and that's that. So when I brought it back in I told the young lady that I didn't order sopapilla's I ordered churros. And she said yes unfortunately we are out of churros so that's why we replaced them with sopapilla's. I said well I don't want that then she said well would you like some ice cream to replace it. I'm thinking to myself this came with ice cream so I'm NO. I told her no and then they were like ok thank you so I'm waiting for them to tell me how I'm gonna get a refund. After a few minutes I'm like how am I gonna get a credit for this dessert. The young lady was like oh I have to get the manager since it was an online order. I was dissatisfied with the service I did get my $6.50 back (minus the tax ) . If you order from here just be sure to check your order before you leave because they are not going to tell you if they have to replace something they don't have. read more

Best Mexican restaurant in town! Granted, there's only two Mexican restaurants in Moncks Corner, this one is the best of the two. I highly recommend the shredded chicken nachos, huge portion and affordable price. The atmosphere is great and everyone is so hospitable! This place has great food and fast service. We just tried this place for the first time and we were seated right away. The pork chili verde is a must try... The sweat tea needed more sugar but the churros with ice cream and chocolate syrup more than made up for it. This place has large portions for a good price. read more

Stopped here for dinner tonight. My daughter and I agreed that Mexican food would be good. Walked into the restaurant and the young man who made us at the front door didn't seem to know his rear end from anything else He walked us from one End of the restaurant to the other looking for a table to accommodate my scooter. Finally the manager stopped in because I was getting upset and he wanted to know what was going on they finally found us a table outside of the back kitchen area. We ordered our dinners and this is when I really got upset. The mild salsa was frozen all at the bottom of the dish and all it was rising to the top with the chapped tomatoes. Then we gave our orders to the waiter He and the manager both came. When dinner arrived the Mexican rice was mushy the beans were sloppy I think I ate a total of three scallops and three shrimps I did however eat three paperthin slices of guacamole and that was enough for me. My daughter also was quite annoyDishes prepped with no seasoning is what we got. disappointed. I asked for the check and rather than the manager coming over to comp even part of the check , I got in the whole check I was not looking for a free meal but this was a horror. Of course that was dependent upon what I gave to the young fella for the tip , impressed I was not. It is now 45 minutes hour later that I have eaten and have had to go to the bathroom twice on the run. If I could give them a -5 star rating believe me I would. There's not much Hispanic restaurants in Goose Creek that's to my liking! Coming from San Antonio and the closest I could really refer is El Maguey! The flavor is ok enough when it comes to the enchilada sauce! But of course I have not tried any further than this chicken or beef enchilada! I absolutely love the Chicken burrito a la pina, this dish is so filling and delicious!! Grilled pineapple tops a this burrito with creamy queso sauce, the chicken and beef inside the burrito is marinated and grilled to perfection! We stopped in Sunday for a late lunch (2:00pm) We started off with chips and salsa.. Of course. They give you 2 different salsas, both were VERY good.. The spicy was my favorite. The chips were also nice and fresh, no staleness at all! We had cheese dip, which was really tasty. I ordered the El Maguey bowl.. Chicken.. I noticed it was kind of pricey (10.50) but when it came out I was pleasantly surprised! The portion was HUGE! You could order 1 bowl and 2 plates and it'd be plenty for two people. It was awesome! On a scale 1 to 10.. It was an 11! My fiancé got the special number 4, he said his was also good. We had sweet tea to drink, which was also very good. Our service was excellent. It's not like there are a ton of places to choose from in Moncks Corner but this is my favorite. They are closed down for renovations but I cannot wait until they reopen. The food is always hot and they are super quick. You will definitely get full because their portion size is generous. The shrimp tacos and a side of black beans are my go to order. While the review from 2010 may have been true, El Maguey has totally turned itself around. They are constantly packed 7 days a week. My hubby and I go there for lunch on Monday's on his day off. It seems that what ever was wrong when the 2010 reviewer was there has been fixed. The chips were warm and crisp and the salsa was great. Mild for me and hot for hubby. We didn't have a problem with the building warmth or the lights. Since we started going there, all the servers have been great and there has never been an issue with their English since they're from South Carolina. I couldn't tell you the name of the dish I had but it's got shrimp and scallops, grilled and it comes with rice, sour cream and guacamole. It is FANTASTIC. I have no idea what my husband got, but he loved every single bite. I would definitely recommend El Maguey to everyone!! read more

The bottom line, this is our favorite Mexican restaurant anywhere. We never leave hungry and always leave with plenty of leftovers. The food is amazing; we love the special rice and chicken fajitas. There are no changing tables, however, so you're going to have to take your baby to your car for that. Anytime we have visitors from out of the area they ask to return to El Maguey. read more

If you like the smell of cat pee, don't mind roaches (palmetto bugs in the south), and bartenders and servers who know less about the menu than you do, this is the place to go. I asked what the beer specials were and I was told they had $1 Miller High Life. I asked if they were smaller bottles and I was told "they're smaller bottles but the same amount of beer". Apparently 7oz equals 12oz. I asked the difference between two items on the menu and I was asked "what does the menu say". Not to mention the food is average at best and some of the employees are uneducated, clueless and would be barely qualified to work at Sonic. No disrespect to Sonic. Way better service and a much cleaner establishment. Don't waste your time or money at this disgusting disgrace to Moncks Corner. Try Cinco de Mayo. read more
