This was the second time we've gone to this place, the first about a year earlier. Both times we were the only ones there, granted this place is on a busy street but it also seems like not many know this place exists. Nevertheless we sat immediately and the friendly gentlemen took our drink orders. We then ordered the shrimp mofongo and the fried pork chops with tostones. The fried pork chops were just as good as they were the first time! Meaty/flavorful/not too dry! Only thing some could complain about is it being a little greasy! The tostones were good with a nice texture to it, although I wish it had some salt/seasoning on it. My fiancé thoroughly enjoyed her shrimp mofongo, as the shrimps were nice and garlicky and the mofongo had pieces of pork chunks in it which not too many places around here do, but it was very much appreciated! The texture of the mofongo suited more to her liking, with it being a little on the dry side! The price is reasonable and the food is really good, not the best ever but again really good! I am not sure what the crowds look like on the other days of the week, but I hope this place can gain some more customers! I'd come here again! read more

We were across the street at the mass mutual center for an event and came across this spot. It was quiet when we got there in the mid afternoon, but the woman at the bar was quick to greet us and extremely helpful. The food came out quick and hot, and did not disappoint. I stumbled across this place walking around downtown. I walked in and looked at a menu. After asking the young lady if the lunch special stewed chicken was good, she said it was her favorite. I ordered it and it came out in 2 minutes. The portion was very generous for $9.50 and it was delicious although the chicken itself was not piping hot. That was my only reason for not giving 5 stars. This is a very interesting one I must say. For Caribbean food this isn't bad & for myself I ordered a steak & onions with a side of rice and beans (photo is with the report). Portion is very nice because you get your share of rice and also beans plus you get the steak and onions this is very tasty and delicious (the seasonings are such it's just the right balance). They also got chicken, pork and seafood as well. Was in Springfield for my daughters dance competition at the Mass Mutual Center. After it was over we wanted to get something close by. After some deliberation we decide on Sol Karibe. It was such a good choice. First impression, I cannot remember seeing a place this clean maybe since I was in the Army. It was an odd time of day so it was really quiet. The waitress sat us and took our orders. My girlfriend and I had the Pernil with Spanish rice and beans. My daughter had chicken with fries. It was absolutely fabulous. Filling and the pork was so tender and flavorful. The rice was absolutely perfect. Like a home cooked meal. They were so nice and it was fairly economical. For the three of us and tip it came to around $50. If your in the area give them a shot. read more

Sol Karibe epitomizes much of what Springfield as a city offers, particularly as an up-and-coming restaurant grasping its niche but with clean surroundings, funky palm tree table decor, and savory Dominican and Puerto Rican-influenced dishes. A couple friends and I popped in for a late lunch, observing that they offered empanadillas, tostones, and even mifongo on their broader menu. Surprisingly, this Latino joint wasn't playing any Latino music but offered some of loudest patron talk I've heard in some time. We ordered from the bar, and with our food coming out in much quicker time than we would've imagined. One of my friend's chicken "pollo" wings looked smaller in size than the "medium" advertised, but my other friend's "Tripleta" sandwich and my medium platter of "Puerco" (pork chops) simmered in a savory tomato sauce with a mountain of arroz amarillo (yellow rice) and saucy pinto beans proved more than enough to eat. We noticed they also offered tamarind and other tropical juices, too, alongside a sizable dance floor. If we came at 8-9 pm versus 2 pm, there could have been an even livelier atmosphere and even larger food portions. Yet, I would come back to check out their larger Cubano sandwich or any other of their medium or large platter offerings. Ultimately, a city embracing its ethnic heritage where languages besides English are spun out and food cooked up in fresh ways always proves a winner. read more

When a customer tells you that there is hair in the food, you don't tell them that no one here has that type of hair and then say, it's only on the lid(inside that is). 4 orders of fried chicken were extremely over cooked. This is a Latin place as I was told (mix of DR & PR), which is pretty good for offering Cubanos that taste authentic. I'm currently satisfied. I had plans to try the Korean barbecue place that was next door Unfortunately they were closed so I thought I would give this establishment to try it's mid-afternoon on a Saturday so it wasn't busy there was a young lady in there that could not have been more unbothered by the fact that I had walked in she stood there for a moment just looking at me before I asking me if I needed anything I told her I would like to order some food she took the order and the food order came out in about 40 seconds which is really fast. The food was cold except for the fried empanadas the customer service was horrible I would not recommend this place to anyone for anything read more

I was around the area with some friends and we were trying to find a place to have lunch. We sat at the bar and placed our orders. The menu was limited and the food was medicore (slightly on the salty side). Since they didn't have everything on the menu, we all ended up ordering the same dish - steak with onions served with rice and beans. The service could have been better. While the gentleman taking our order was nice, he didn't speak English well and we had to remind him several times to bring us water. read more

A friend and I stopped by here as we left the court to grab a quick fritura. All we ordered was one alcapurria, 2 beef empanadillas and 2 bottles of water. The alcapurria was cold and hard so it must've been sitting there since morning. However, I don't think it would've been good had it been fresh anyway. The empanadillas were fresh and pretty good, but nothing to write home about. The reason my rating is so low is because of the service. The gentleman who helped us was rude and very unwelcoming. It was as if it bothered him to have customers, which is funny because the only other person in there was one of the employees eating her lunch. I said hello and asked how he was doing and he simply said good. My friend asked what kind of empanadillas he had and he pretty much barked the response. No smile. No courtesy. No thank you for coming in or anything. The water was Costco's Kirkland brand which I think is pretty classless especially when they're trying to appear as upper class in comparison to most of the Latino restaurants in town. I also looked at the pictures posted here and saw the pork chops they serve; it's the cheapest cut you can buy. I asked for a few extra napkins and he literally counted 2 and gave them to me. Maybe he's happier when they open late and he can drink. Not sure. But based on this experience I will never return. I rather go to the hood to get my food from people who actually appreciate their customers and business. read more
