I found this place and ordered some drinks--coconut water and a Monster, a Pernil Combo, and also a Chuleta combo. I took a bite from both, and it hit all the right notes. Been getting alcapurrias, carne fritas, sweet plantains, etc here for years. A nice smaller place that's not very large with some tables inside to eat there if you wish. The service is always good, I suggest using the app to order your food ahead of time. Especially if you want things that take time to prepare. The only large negative is the food is not always fresh, or hot. One visit it's perfect and the next it almost cold. Unfortunately, for me consistency is very important. I absolutely love this lil gem in Springfield. Food continues to be great authentic Puerto Rican food. My only complaint is that since the business owners have opened their new spot on Boston rd, the customer service when calling in any orders have completely declined. On several occasions myself or coworkers have called and worker has gotten attitude, rushing on the phone to the point of telling us to call back when the order is correct when it's them not understanding. Or even just not picking up the phone, or leaving it off the hook so it's busy. I love supporting small local businesses but I don't want to b treated rudely. I wanted LUNCH and there is no lunch menu. Girl said the smallest meal is medium for $9.59. This place needs to learn to cater to the community. Learn from Chinese restaurants, they have LUNCH menus! I am new to the area and didn't want to cook this Christmas so I went and picked up everything from pernil with rice and beans, pasteles, papas rellenas to flan and more. The portions are too small for the price they're charging. The manager is rude and obnoxious. Very arrogant thinks he's better then anyone else. I've warned my friends and they've warned their friends not to go there if they don't want to be treated like second class citizens. Completely disappointed- this spot was once my go to.. I ordered white rice with beans and stewed chicken. No problem right? Well I'm told there is no beans as she is ringing me up- mind you I see a lady go to the back and bring out beans in a small cup for the gentleman BEHIND me- I get into my car and look at my plate and there is literally bones from the thigh (no meat) and some bones from a leg (no meat) and maybe 3 small pieces of meat tops! I've never supervised them making my plate before- I did not think to do so MY LAST time there- charged me $12+ for rice and 3 bites of chicken- oh yeah the bones too- will not ever go back and will always discourage new/old business. read more

Came here for business purposes.....insurance inspection for the landlord's policy. I look at quite a few restaurants, but this time I was treated to a plate of typical Puerto Rican rice & beans with roasted pork shoulder. First let me say this: kitchen, food storage, preparation areas were very clean. This is family operated, but employs several nice, polite people. The owner Luis works HARD for this success. NOW THE FOOD..........best I have EVER ate outside of a private residence, and, I have had the privilege to dine with some very talented Puerto Rican cooks. My office Christmas party is where I was introduced to El Morro yellow Spanish rice and peas. The food was excellent, so I decided to stop by the establishment today for lunch. Parking lot full and long lines show signs of a good business and good food. However, I ordered the medium plate yellow rice, pinto beans, and chicken in the garlic sauce & the food was so salty I became nauseous driving back to work. The food is tasty but way too salty. I'm not sure if it's the typical flavor, but it didn't settle with me well. I ate all the rice but I couldn't finish the chicken. Went to this establishment a few months ago at lunchtime. There was along line and after waiting in line for about 10/15 minutes, I notice a gentleman from behind the counter walk up to certain people in line and taking their orders ahead of others. Then I realize all the people he is calling out of the line are all well dressed, business suits etc.... I ended up leaving. Never went back again. My time and money should be just as valuable as those dressed in nice clothing. read more

I visited Springfield this summer for a short vaca and decided to look online for good places to eat when I came across this restaurant, which had good reviews on more than just this site. I was excited! Unfortunately, where I live, PR food is a rarity - other than my own - so I don't get to enjoy some of the foods I love (but are too laborious to make myself) as often as I'd like - like alcapurrias! Alcapurrias (and pasteles) are by far my favorite PR foods and I will jump at ever opportunity to have them (I know, I'm obsessed...don't judge me). I went in at about 3:30pm and was pleased to find it wasn't packed as a lot of reviewers have noted (avoid the lunch hours, if possible). I ordered a large to-go plate of white rice, red beans, pollo asado (sorry, don't know how to translate it) and OF COURSE alcapurrias. With that, I got a free medium drink and paid only $13.35!! Wowzers! Not only did I get what I came for (yes, my beloved alcapurrias - which were great by the way), but I paid only $13, got a free drink AND had enough food to serve my son and I and still have leftovers! Oh, and did I say the food was great? Of course I did! I will definitely be back anytime I'm in the area! read more
