Saw this place one day when I was driving down Broadway in Chicopee one day. (it is front of Millie's Pierogis) I decided to stop in and give it a taste. Upon entering- you notice most how clean everything looks. This is awesome because us Latinos/as eat with our eyes. At first when I came I thought it was Puerto Rican food. Then I saw the Chivo (goat) on the menu board and heard the calming bachata music on the tv on the wall and I thought to ask the owner if this was Dominican food. It turns out it is Dominican food with a touch of Puerto Rican dishes! The best of both worlds! Additionally- the food is not set up cafeteria style like a lot of Spanish restaurants- The food is under heat lamps behind the counter. For some people that's off putting because they assume it's not fresh or tastes like it is has been sitting under the lamps for days - not so! Everything is fresh and amazing! They have all the classics; yellow rice and gandules, white rice, habichuelas rosada, pernil, baked chicken. They have quite a few of guisadas (stews) to pick from all loaded with onions, peppers etc; chicken, pork, beef, oxtail, as well as viandes. They have empanadas, alcapurrias, sorrullitos de maiz, rellenos de papa (potato balls) in a smaller case. My favorite is the goat aka the Chivo. It is so fall apart tender -I've had it three times already! The young gentleman behind the counter has always waited on me. He is super polite, quick to smile and humors my bad Spanglish with none of the pretentious ways that I have experienced in other Spanish restaurants. This is really important to me because it tells me of the love that they have for their food and the respect that they have for their customers. I've come in on different times of day and the food is always fresh tasting. Prices are very reasonable for the portions. During this last visit my husband had their pasteles. Oh so good! They also had sancocho. - I've asked the owners and they said that their business is steadily picking up. They are working on getting money for advertising. Most of their traffic comes from word of mouth There is another Spanish restaurant in Chicopee that has a similar name-(Sabor Latino) -but I very much feel that the cooking style are night and day. No insult is meant to Sabor as they really are two different types of food in my humble opinion. I really hope this small business owner is able to make it. Not a fan at all. I ordered through DoorDash and selected a future time to have my food prepared. No soy boba, I understand the complexities of making a tripleta. That needs to be fresh fresh. Coming in from NY, I ordered it to be made when I got there. They made it 40 minutes before requested! As you may have imagined the whole bottom of the container was soaked in pernil grease. The bread was so soaked when I touched it I gagged and Just threw it away. The empanadilla de pizza was on point though! I'll second the reviewer regarding the customer service with the greeting I got. Unwelcoming, bothered, and clearly don't follow simple directions. I HATE GAME PLAYING!!! Ordered lastnight, the "mongo with 1 meat".. the food was actually great..however they left out the mongo. Stuff happens, I still enjoyed it & just called to let them know to see if maybe I could pick it up. Guy who answers phone simply said "no they're closed", offered no apology or resolution.. I said ok, well is this something I can get tomorrow?? He dryly said to call back tomorrow, which I did when I was actually going to place a larger order for my whole family. So the same guy answers ( voice was identical to the guy day before who after my asking 2x reluctantly said his name was "Peter"). We had no trouble understanding eachother...until I told him that the mongo I ordered the day before was missing & "Peter" said to call back today & I also said Several times that I wasn't only calling for that but was going to place a large order. ( he argued he didn't know who peter was despite it being a very small place & same # & voice) All of a sudden, after asking if I could get the small order of mongo with today's order,he ceased to be able to understand me?!.. Literally, everything I said he'd answer nooo sorry, he no hear, you call back tomorrow, I no understand " I called him out and said funny, you were understanding me just fine a minute ago?!.. I then said ok, how about the lady that 1st answered, can I talk to her? He said nooo no, she not here, she's gone home ".. I told him I can HEAR HER in the background! Frustrated by this point I tried saying ya know, ok, forget the mongo you owe me, let's just start over and I'll place an order with you tonight ok?.. he continued to argue that he didn't know what happened to the mongo & Blamed grubhub for the missing item ( which should have been inside my container w/meat) After way too much back & forth I said never mind, I didn't call to argue, I wanted to give you my money but you don't seem to want to take it?! I'll just buy somewhere else I guess as I didn't call for an argument.. he said "ok". It's too bad, food really was good & I told him that, I said "I know it's good, I'm not arguing with you, it's muy bueno, that's why I'm calling back but when you're paying for something, not even guaranteed to get it..& then you get BS GAMES when they don't want to work with you .. well, I hope the probably $3 they saved on their "mongo" was worth the $75 I was going to spend tonight & all the future purchases?!
