Food was amazing. The shrimp was in a lemony sauce that would pair perfect with anything! Service was quick and sweet. I will definitely be coming back soon!

Salmon & shrimp lunch. Includes soup not in photo.

I'm really curious who these dimwits are writing these low rating reviews? Very clean restaurant with excellent service. I had the salmon with the shrimp. It was excellent. The soup was kale with the most savory Portuguese sauce I have ever had. The flan was perfect. I will definitely be back. Go check them out and remember to tip your servers. It's 2023 and $2.00 isn't and acceptable tip. 20% people! If you can't afford to tip, you shouldn't be dining out!

Have been coming here for years. I am about 40 minutes away in CT but always have taken the drive. In recent years this placed has declined. Today I was disappointed with the soup to start. Portuguese soup usually has veggies like cabbage and today it was puraid, it was good but I like the hearty pieces of veggies. The cod fish plate was pretty bad and lacked any authentic flavor of this Portuguese traditional dish. My meal came with frozen french fries which is an absolute no no for Portuguese restaurants. If they are to lazy to cut some fresh potatoes then I am lazy to take the drive up here. This place is ok for lunch time if your at work and live close but definitely not worth driving to if you live farther than 30 minutes away.

Authentic Portuguese food!!! We ate with family and we can share. First they start with a variety af Portuguese breads and butter! We had mussels and shrimp appetizers. Which was made with piri piri sauce. This was amazing sauce paired with these seafood dishes. The mussels had some sand which makes me not eat anymore. The shrimp is flavorful. With your meal we had a choice of house salad or the soup of the day. We had the Caldo verde which is puréed potato and shredded kale. Never will you eat something so delicious. I had the bass and it's dressed, grilled with raw onions, garlic, paprika, and simple Portuguese olive oil. Simple is better with boiled potatoes sprinkled with olive oil served with broccoli rabi which was so tender and bright green. My husband had half lobster stuffed with grilled haddock. What a beautiful presentation. Home made chips and rice as a side dish. My family had the shrimp with the same sauce as our appetizer with chips as well. The grilled salmon was a good portion again simply made( olive oil, garlic with the same sides homemade potato chips and rice. Vino verde was mild and didn't bite your throat. The specialty brandy is smooth and goes well with dessert flan which was a about 6 inches high and so creamy beautifully caramelized. Finally the espresso is not your typical American. You will stay awake but it has a robust flavor and gets thicker the closer you get to the bottom of the cup, so keeping mixing if you don't want a mud consistency.

But a sit-down meal of grilled or baked seafood is delicious with a glass of Portuguese wine. Not entirely thrilled unfortunately today…read more Went to T&P's around 2:00pm today after a trip to the zoo as my daughter wanted pasta. We were one of six tables within the facility that were occupied. Our server came over and greeted us after about five minutes of sitting, so we'd already knew what we wanted to order. We placed our order and waited about 37 minutes for the food to come out. During the time we waited, all the table next to us did was complain. They complained the music was too loud, they complained the service wasn't fast enough, and then when they got their check to pay, the server accidentally placed the itemized receipt of another table on their table. Good lord, that caused the man to absolutely flip out. Very loudly he goes "ARE YOU KIDDING, CANT THEY DO ANYTHING RIGHT?" which was so very offputting. He flagged the server down who apologized tenfold. Our food came out, it looked...well..you can see from the pictures. The mushrooms and calamari were just disappointing. The mushrooms were very dry and could have used a lemon wedge, if not some kind of sauce. The calamari I had specifically ordered because it was named "Calamari RINGS Rhode Island Style" but when it came out, the plate was full of the body/tentacle style which I do not eat. The breading was also not crispy in the least, it was soft and soggy. Calamari should have that crunch to offset the seafood. The marinara was also very watery. My daughter (8) thought her pasta was okay, she didn't touch the meatballs but we took her leftovers home. This was the first time I'd been to Tony and Penny's in over a dozen years. Unless menu items change, I more than likely won't be going back.

Nice location and staff but spotty food…read more Came here on recommendation by a friend. Made the trek out to try some authentic Portuguese food. They were prepping for a big event when we came, so they were a bit distracted when we came in. They offered us seating at the patio or the bar and we opted for outside. Our server for the nice was very nice but clearly stretched thin. She tried to check in frequently but ended up only really dropping by a few times through the night. We get a gambit of items. The garlic steak bites, the mussels with chorizo, the picaha and get the saffron rice and salad as our sides. Food comes out quickly, along with some bread for the table. Very crunchy bread, butter was cold but easy enough to massage to make spreadable. The steak bites and mussels came out first. The mussels were cooked, but the dish was really lacking flavor. You got chicken stock, the smokiness of the chorizo, and the veggies. That's all the flavor you got though, no real seasoning and very basic flavors. It really needed salt. The steak bites were pretty good. Kind of a little open faced Philly cheesesteak crostini, but with untoasted bread. Flavors were solid but also lacking seasoning. Then we got our entree, and the thought was there but it was very much lacking. Meat was unseasoned, overcooked (probably because they threw a cooked steak onto a sizzle plate which took it right over the edge of done) but it did have a wonderful charcoal bitterness which was a welcome choice. Instead of asking for a new one (steak was tender, just well done) we asked for a sauce. They took 5 minutes to make a scratch sauce for us. A mushroom type gravy, which was the highlight of the meal. All the flavor that was missing from the other dishes brought to the forefront, with a strong emphasis on salt and acid to really pop the flavors of the meat. I really enjoyed the sauce. It showed that the kitchen can put out good food, it just was too focused on the event to put up a good showing. It was a shame, but it's good enough to try again some day. Pricing was reasonable for the quality, it's possible to get a good meal here, but your experience can vary.

A few disappointments including no clams or calamari for seafood mix or clam and sausage appetizer. The two soups were the highlight as well as our beloved chorizo. Hands down my new favorite restaurant. Killing time waiting for my knives to be sharpened around…read morethe corner so I stopped in for lunch (thanks to the Yelp reviews). Found parking right in front - a good omen. It wasn't quite, "You had me when you said 'hello.'" but I was definitely hopeful when I walked in. Small place. A working man's taverna. The bar takes up a third of the room and a dozen tables, mostly high hats, take up the rest. The owner's at the bar sipping a beer and presumably looking over things. A number of obvious locals at the tables and the bar. Portuguese intermixed with English the sounds of the house. The menu consisted of well-known Portuguese fare, and I had already determined what I would have based on the Yelp reviews. But in the back was the chalkboard with the daily specials. The friendly server came by with olives in garlic and bread and butter, and explained the specials, so I switched up and got the spinach soup and the beans "transmontana," all with a glass of house Portuguese red. Everything, simply everything, was delicious and abundant. No frills. Nothing vertical, no olive oil drizzle on the soup, just plain good food. The soup seemed to have a chicken stock base but had some thickness, spinach, nice potatoes. Warm and rich. The bean dish - if you want to call it that - was really a full plateful of hacked pork, chorizo, cabbage potatoes...and, yes, beans, with a side of white rice. The pork was to die for, succulent, melt-off-the-bone good. The flavor probably enhanced by the marrow from the broken bones. I mean, this was REALLY good. I intended to try more just to see if I happened to get lucky. They had two fish dishes worth a try and everyone seems to like the crab/fish cakes. But I had all I could handle and still took a plate home for my next meal. If I told you the price, you'd think I was being paid for this. Simply put, this is home-cooked food, plentifully portioned and priced like it was 1950, or maybe like you were in the mountains of Portugal. Thanks to the house for making this my lucky day.
