They had just brought out a fresh batch of yellow rice and changed the buffet container, but I was still served old, hard rice. Why serve customers stale rice when fresh rice is available? I understand keeping food covered on the buffet to maintain its temperature, but when I asked to see what they had available, I was repeatedly told to look at the menu. I explained that my son is nonverbal and autistic and relies on seeing the actual food so he can point to what he wants. The owner's response was that they would only open one container at a time upon request and asked what I wanted to see. Not everyone can simply read a Spanish food menu and make a choice. Some customers, especially those with special needs, rely on visual choices to communicate. A little patience, understanding, and compassion would have gone a long way. If it weren't for the fact that my son needed to eat before school drop-off, I would have walked right out. He is super polite, quick to smile and humors my bad Spanglish with none of the pretentious ways that I have experienced in other Spanish restaurants. This is really important to me because it tells me of the love that they have for their food and the respect that they have for their customers. I've come in on different times of day and the food is always fresh tasting. Prices are very reasonable for the portions. During this last visit my husband had their pasteles. Oh so good! They also had sancocho. - I've asked the owners and they said that their business is steadily picking up. They are working on getting money for advertising.
