Great food. The service was pretty slow though. We did pick up and waited about 30 min longer than the original wait time of 25 min. Food was worth the wait though. Hopefully they make it through COVID. read more

The food is the Star of this restaurant. The cuisine spans all of Latin America and they change their specials every couple of weeks. The service is always friendly and they speak both English and Spanish. The portions are always generous at very reasonable prices. One of the best dining values around. read more

We came on on a Saturday night about 8 o'clock and were the only ones there for about half an hour. Waitress and bartender were both extremely friendly and noticed that we were undecided so they gave us a lot of great advice. We ordered fish tacos for appetizer, they served three of them and they were a decent size. Each had a large chunk of delicious white fish that was lightly battered and covered with vinaigrette type sauce and salsa. We then ordered chicken chunks with rice and beans and a plate of shredded beef with rice and beans and everything was out of this world. It was so good that we ordered a plate to go for tomorrow's lunch. The bartender also made us a delicious cocktail which was a hot tea with tropical spices fruits and a stick of sugarcane. This restaurant may not look like much on the outside but the food is exquisite. I was impressed by the flavors that were developed in the shrimp ceviche. The tequila, passion fruit infused broth brought a special element to the dish. I also tried the pork belly chicharron mofongo and the shrimp mofongo. Both dishes equally stood out with their unique balance of flavors. Since I am still in town I am considering eating here again tomorrow! read more

My hunt for a good mofongo is over. This restaurant is amazing. The waitress was super friendly and the food was delicious. Ordered the chicken and shrimp mofonguito appetizer on our waitresses recommendation. This was actually the best mofongo I have ever had. Also order0ed the fish sandwich with fried plantains and my friend ordered the ox tail. Everything we ordered was great. The fish sandwich was juicy and flavorful with just the right amount of avacado and the ox tail was swimming in an amazing broth. Can't wait to go back for more. read more

For years we have been searching for a place that has amazing Latin food in our area. We found it in Sol. This is hands down some of the best food we have ever had. Authentic and original. I can not wait to eat here again. I read that others had said it was slow with service but it does not matter. It is completely worth the wait and the people are super nice. read more

My wife and I recently visited. Previous reviews made us apprehensive about the level of service. What we discovered was a great little latin American restaurant. I first tried their calamari. I was disappointed because they were rubbery and with a thick cornmeal batter. I then got a plate of mussels with brandy sauce and chorizo. The sauce and the chorizo was outstanding. The chorizo was overcooked. The rice and beans that came with the meal were outstanding, My wife ordered turnovers (chicken, beef, cheese) and they were super with a stellar dipping sauce. She had the fried pork plate with spicy rice. The pork was good and the spicy rice was to rave about. A secret is that they have outstanding drinks. I had white sangria and am still talking about it. My wife had a mojito. It was super even though a different style than we are used to. read more

Visited last weekend...as soon as I walked i felt the comfort of traditional home cooking which was very welcoming.. I was hungry so I was looking forward to a great meal... I order the swai fish Veracruz style and it was amazing the sauce made the meal... The portion was very generous and filled me right up...I asked the chef what should I pair with and he recommend a Sauvignon Blanc that complimented the fish great I ended up drinking almost the whole bottle.. Been here like 5 times now.....its nice on the inside....small place tucked away on a downtown Torrington side street. The waitstaff has always been very polite to us and answered any questions we had. Its been quiet the times we've been with other couples also eating. The food is very good....the $8 specials are tasty and a very good value. My only suggestion would be to give a bit more with a few of the meals. Most are well proportioned but one I had was very tasty but needed a bit more to fill me up. They also do takeout. The menu has some very interesting dishes on it that we cant wait to try! Great spot for lunch. Good portions for the price and tastes very authentic. The staff seemed to know everyone else around me, which is a good sign that people keep going back. I did not have any issue with slow service. As others mentioned there's only one waitress/bartender but the place was not too busy. Perhaps it gets a little more crowded during dinner? read more

Many times I have asked for a well cooked salmon..never have eaten such a perfect well cooked Salmon like the one at this place..Had a perfect texture to it not over filled and not to raw..My vegetables as well were perfectly cooked..the tomatoream sauce gave it a perfect touch..Waiting time was a perfect timing due for what I actually ordered..one of the best thing they have besides their food is the service..well taken care off all the way..Had a sangria which was perfectly done..wasn't watery at all it has a unique n perfect touch..love this place..highly recommend this restaurant.. read more

I loved it!!! The food was amazing and the Salsa was the best I have ever had. The food did take a little while but the reason is because they make everything fresh. I suggest if you go bring a few friends and order the salsa and chips with guacamole so you have something to munch on before your meal comes. By the time we had a glass of wine and finished the app our meal was on the table. I go to the Caribbean every year and it made me feel like I was back there with the music and atmosphere. I'm really torn on how to feel about this place. It feels like you're coming home to your latin grandma's house and are just excited to see smiling faces and familiar foods. The bar/drink menu was great, it's awesome to see homemade sangria that doesn't taste like sugar water and actually has a nice boozy kick to it. Went in for lunch takeout and made the (incorrect) assumption that it would be a quick trip. Waited nearly 1.5 hours for 3 tacos, a bowl of gumbo, and a small bowl of yucca. We were already 3 drinks in by the time the food came, yet the kitchen was packed full. Even had to ask the waitress for "how much longer?" (which wasnt answered for 10 more minutes...then she said 5 more minutes until food would arrive) Had to continually ask for water refills, even though the lunch crowd had thinned. As for the food, the tacos were very well seasoned and yummy. The gumbo was too tomato-ey for my taste, and the quinoa was overcooked. The boiled yucca left much to be desired as well. read more

Fresh and delicious: Sol truly values their dishes. Although I haven't had a drink, it's clear they value their bar and drink options as well. Some may point out Sol's slow service and that they tend to run out of dishes, but it's a friendly place, so if you have time to relax and enjoy your company, Sol is a great choice! Just had a very enjoyable lunch of steak tacos. Fresh, full of flavor and generous portion. Service was polite and efficient. Not lightning fast, I waited fifteen or twenty minutes for the meal but I did not experience the excessively long wait that others have mentioned. Would have given five stars except the iced tea I first ordered had an off taste (replaced with Sprite - no problem). Atmosphere is cute, colorful and cheap. Surprised to see full bar. I intend to go back once a week and try all the specials. read more
