This place just opened up so I decided to drop by and try it. Had the Kalbi and Bulgogi. Everything was awesome. There is no cooking the food yourself which saves time and means no smoky clothing afterwards, not to mention it also guarantees the food is cooked well. The bulgogi was very solid, not too sweet, flavors nicely balanced, probably the best I've had in Chicago. The kalbi was really unique, giant cuts of meat on big ribs, but it ended up being my favorite. The food comes in a box with rice and side dishes, which make the whole meal feel nice and complete. I recently went to SoJu with a group of 3 other friends and ordered the feast and the green onion pancake. The woman at the cash register (who doubled as a waitress/busser) told us it would be a while, which was fine since we had nowhere else to go. I was pleasantly surprised when "a while" meant only 15 minutes before all of our food came out. The brisket and bulgogi were amazingly seasoned and were well complemented with the fresh and spicy pickles and kimchi. The real winner was the kalbi short rib, which, unlike larger KBBQ chains, were actually served on the bone. Once you figured out how to slice and serve to four people, it was awesome. Excellent food. High quality meat and banchan side dishes. We got the pork belly and kalbi dinner boxes, both of which I would recommend to anyone. There is an option to supersize the kalbi which we did. Was very impressed with the amount of kalbi meat that get when choose the supersize option. The immense care with which all the food has been prepared is really evident. The pork belly meat is really flavorful and the kalbi meat is ridiculously tender. The boxes come with two banchan side dishes and the kimchi really stands out for how good it is. For the quality of food, the price is a steal. Will both definitely be coming back and highly recommending to others! read more

I cannot begin to tell you how delicious this food was. I didn't know what to expect, but SoJuBBQ delivered 10Xs better than my highest expectation. I tried the beef tacos and the Chicken bowl. There were other items on the menu that looked great (as they served it to other customers). I love the food here. My favorite dishes are the grilled pork belly and kimchi fries. I also really like the flavors of the spicy skewers and wings (savory or spicy). Happy that they started offering Halal options, Halal Korean BBQ is impossible to find in the Chicagoland area. The food was okay but I was not super impressed. 6/10 IMO. The wings and ribeye were my favorite by far. The brisket was sooo dry, stay away. Keep in mind this isn't one of those Korean BBQ places where you cook the food on your table, here it's made in the kitchen. We are super excited to have a korean place within walking distance. We had the Kalbi and bulgogi. Overall, flavors were good, decent portions. The meats we were served were not very lean which I don't necessarily mind, I just felt like it was pretty expensive for the meat not to be leaner. My only feedback is to cut up or slice the protein into strips since the food is served in bento boxes and so it's hard to get some fork and knife action in there. It's insane that this place follows a fast casual model, since the food can easily be served as a gourmet meal at a sit-down restaurant. I got the shortrib, which came with a side of sesame seed sprinkled rice, and a little compartment of banchan goodness. The shortrib is absolutely scrumptious; charred lightly on the outside, and ultra-tendered on the inside, as if it has been slow-cooked for hours, it literally melts in your mouth. I heard about this place from a friend so I decided to check it out. We got the Kalbi, spicy chicken and the army soup. While I wasn't sure how much I would enjoy a non-traditional grill it yourself K-BBQ, I was pleasantly surprised by a few factors. Kalbi came as a giant portion instead of thinly slicing it. It was superbly tender and the homemade sauce really gave the combination flavors and textures that I didn't expect from a traditional K-BBQ. Chicken was very tender and juicy since they use thigh meats...but I personally don't like the char that much on my chicken. However, the sauce had the right amount of heat and acidity. I think this was the first time that I've seen a Korean soup that was customized with the ingredients...rich broth and being able to pick out the things I don't typically like in army soup was nice (made it much cheaper too!). I really enjoyed how fast and efficient the service was without having to wait and having my clothes smell. Staff were extremely friendly and that's usually not the typical experience one has at K-BBQ restaurants. Food was very good overall and I'm glad that these guys are emphasizing meat quality. We had the spicy chicken, pork belly and the beef bibimbap bowl. The sauce was great on the chicken, but the meat itself was a bit tough and definitely dry. The beef bowl and pork belly were severely lacking in flavor although the meat was moist. It was truly a mixed bag experience. The worse part is that my stomach, as well as the two other individuals I was eating with, was uneasy after the meal. I do not intend on eating in this establishment again. read more

I've been here multiple times already with my girlfriend and I must say I've been pleasantly surprised. While I was skeptical of what "modern kbbq" would be like at first, I've seen this place evolve into a great fast casual option for kbbq without the hassle. I did miss the myriad of side dishes that traditional kbbq offered. However, it actually did save some time on service and really liked the fact that I could just order a single serving of kbbq instead of being forced to order 2 portion minimums. In terms of the food, every meat is seasoned well and cooked for you. I've REALLY enjoyed the kalbi (very unique cooking method and presentation) and ribeye the most and pork belly had various spices that kept things interesting. I think the prices are reasonable for the portions considering what other places are charging these days... I'm excited to see what else they'll add to the menu in the future! read more
