My cat came to me as a rehoming from a negligent breeder. I did not pay for her I simply was in a position to give her a better life and decided to adopt. She is a Canadian Sphynx. Our provider aggressively pushed me to have a dental cleaning for my cat, going so far as to falsely diagnose her with PPD2 without even having an xray (the disease occurs under the gum line and CANNOT be diagnosed prior to an xray) before surgery a heart murmur was discovered. Our provider assured me that the ProBNP blood test rules out heart disease and that my Sphynx would be totally find to proceed. Against my better judgement I consented only to find later after seeing a new provider who has experience with Sphynx cats that this was extremely dangerous and borderline negligent. Because of the high risk of HCM in the Sphynx breed an echo is absolutely necessary to evaluate risk of anesthetized procedures. Since the dental she now has developed fluid in her chest and it is likely the anesthesia has caused rapid progression of previously undetected HCM. THEY SHOULD HAVE REFUSED TO DO THE PROCEDURE THAT DAY AND IF AN ECHO WAS DONE SHE WOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN CLEARED FOR ANESTHESIA I feel so stupid for believing these horrible people and putting my cat at such risk simply because they wanted to charge me nearly two thousand dollars for a dental that turned out to reveal she doesn't even have PPD! AND when I have sent follow up emails to the clinic and requested medical records I have been either ignored or they have intentionally given me limited records, I had to have our new vet request the records and the new provider sent me the xrays and detailed clinic notes from the procedure!!!! This screams of dishonest practices!!! I feel so lucky she made it out alive and I would never recommend anyone come here, and based on some of the other reviews this seems to be a pattern of behavior. Disgusting. They shouldn't be in business if they care more about a paycheck than the lives of these creatures they treat. If I could type a middle finger on yelp it would go here.

We had only recently switched vets, and so we had only seen the wonderful group of people at VCG a few times. Despite not knowing us well, they made time for us (with no notice); they did not rush us, they showed us genuine kindness. Oliver's overall health had been declining but manageable for a long time, but sadly throughout the night of March 4, there was a series of events that made it clear to us that we had reached the end of his time with us. We called VCG to explain, and they took us immediately. They listened compassionately, and despite not knowing us as well as our previous vet, they believed us and understood that we knew our boy better than anyone. They explained our options, patiently and without judgement. They provided a room with a couch and treats; we could take as much time as we needed to say goodbye to our family member. This was obviously a devastating event. However, the kindness that the staff of VCG showed us in giving Oliver a dignified and peaceful death meant the world to us. I'm tearing up thinking about it. After it was over, we were encouraged to sit with him, pet him and talk to him for as long as we like. They sent us home with a paw print and a patch of his fur in a little box (they had written "Oliver" in the sand). When we picked up his ashes a few days later, they gave us a second paw print for other members of the family as well as a "certificate" of cremation and a nameplate. VCG also provided resources to help us simplify the explanation for our 4 year old child. Today, unexpectedly, we got a card in the mail (pics below) The time they devoted to this detail was profoundly moving, and it meant the world to our family. Oliver was our first pet, and this is my first experience with a death like this. We had 13 years with this sweet soul; and the most heartbreaking thing was imagining that he might be forgotten. So receiving this card was exactly what I needed. I cannot thank the doctors and the rest of the staff at VCG Williamsburg enough. They were there for Ollie, and for us, when we needed them. These people will always hold a special place in my heart. Obviously, I highly recommend this group for all of your pet-care needs. They're great at what they do, and they care. What more can you ask for?

The reason I'm sadly having to give one star is due to the front desk person, Donna. After some kind of mix up with the appointment times, she started harassing me. She was extremely confrontational and hostile for someone at a vet office. To diffuse the situation, I explained that I'm only there to get help for my dog. I've been having trouble taking care of her lately because I have cancer, and I really need help. Donna continued being hostile, just laughed at me and said "right, maybe I have cancer too haha" - she actually ridiculed and mocked me. This is the type of people you have at a vet clinic?? I have no words for this experience. A huge shame since it seems the real vet staff seem lovely. They listened to my concerns and gave her an initial exam. They quickly found that she had an extremely high temperature and urged me to take her to the hospital. I burst down into tears because my other dog passed away last year and I was just very scared. They were so kind seeing me in that state LOL and called a hospital near by to make sure they'd be able to take my dog in. It was clear they weren't just after money and genuinely care about the animals there. Although my dog ended up being okay, I'm glad the vet recommended me to take her to the hospital.
