They're also open late which is one of the best parts and it's also a great place to catch the latest game. The chicken was good. Crispy, flavorful, and a bit on the smaller size. The bulgogi cheese fries were also pretty good. The melted cheese made the fries a little bit soft but still had good flavoring. The wings are pretty small portion-wise and it tasted like they used frozen wings. It had a weird texture and very greasy. Oh, the spicy flavor hot was very blah. Not enough seasoning, it was overly hot. Service was quick and it was a casual atmosphere. I won't be returning to this restaurant so I can mark this off my bucket list. As soon as I got off my flight from LA I brought my friends here. I've had it bookmarked for a minute and knew they'd love it bc they've been telling me how much they loved the Korean friend chicken I took them to I. Koreatown in LA. We showed up late- like 1am (I'm really sorry to the wait staff for that.) you might be hesitant to rate a restaurants food or service based on what you get served that late but everything was impeccable. Nice cozy sporty bar that serves drinks & quick bites. My friend and I decided to come here because he was craving some Korean fried chicken. I went ahead & got their bulgogi cheese fries & 10 pieces of the sweet & sour wings. Well I thought the cheese fries were above par but I wasn't really a fan of it. While the fries were hot & crispy the meat was tasteless & they were cheap on the spicy mayo. I actually enjoyed the sweet & sour wings as it had a nice balance of sweet & sour, the batter was also coated pretty well. Yeah, all the reviews about the service don't tell me anything about the food. I understand your frustration and it was a grand opening. It should have been a soft opening and all the good stuff. When it arrived, they missed one of our chicken (meaning they gave us 19 instead of 20 wings) and apologized and said that the chef is new. Not a good thing to tell a customer; just FYI. Should you come to check this place out? The Soy chicken tasted like honey soy, which is not that bad. The soy chicken sauce proportions were not that evenly divided. The special chicken tasted like orange chicken. I feel like I can just go to a mall and get them (I was hoping for some special type of sauce) They do have a lunch menu with a bento box. Seriously, it's got a good crunch to it. I was amazed by how crisp the chicken was even an hour later. The spicy is HOT- c'mon, you're eating at a Korean joint after all! The special was delicious. 2. Udon ddukbokki-spicy rice cake with udon- my first time trying this dish (usually I have it plain) and I was not disappointed. I came here for a second dinner one Friday night and luckily found a table as there was only 1 left. Most patrons were either white or Hispanic, not asian, surprisingly since this is right in the middle of one of the newest shopping centers in chinatown. The menu has a lot of drinking type dishes, apps, some soups, and fried foods. I ordered snails since its sort of a strange dish to see and just stuck out. I also tried a Capri lychee soju. The snails were just ok, not exactly what I was envisioning, so maybe I should have just ordered chicken. I really enjoyed the soju cocktail though for a few reasons. I have been watching and waiting for Soho Chicken since Bellaire Food Street mall opened for business since the sign was hung on Bellaire Food Street in 2019. I was here on its "grand opening" day, a couple of weeks later and a couple of months later. The menu was black and white when it first opened. It was simple and I memorized the differences between bokkeum and dupbap for future visits. Gradually, the menu grew bigger and more new stuff appeared. That means I had to study more Korean dishes. Each dish is unique. Staff is really friendly. I adore the decorations on both walls, especially that giant 4K TV. It's a great place to hang out at night. I grabbed takeout from here the other night and was overall pretty disappointed. Mediocre chicken + skimpy pickled radish portion + extra service fee means there's really no reason to come here when there's so many good food places in the area. We ordered the 20pc, half fried, half soy garlic. On the plus side, the food was quick (15 minutes) and ready when we we came. However, I noticed they charge a 3.99% "service fee" for credit card orders which is disappointing. Why not just build the price into your menu like literally every other place? It's not like it was particularly cheap either (ended up ~$30). When we got home, we opened the pickled radishes and were immediately disappointed. There were about 8 pieces of radish...really? If you're going to nickel and dime me for my 3.99% "service fee", at least give me more than a few pieces of radish. The chicken itself was alright. It wasn't particularly crispy like I expected it to be. The soy garlic was good, but the original fried had no seasoning. It came with a dipping sauce that I didn't particularly enjoy. The soy garlic was still good but was missing some flavor. The wings were a little small for my liking. I was expecting the whole waaaang. The wings were really crispy. However I thought kfc was double fried which created two layers. This seemed to have one crunchy layer. I've had better kfc at other restaurants. But this somewhat satisfied my craving. Honestly, I don't know why I am so lazy with writing reviews. I have been to SOHO Chicken since they practically opened. Pre-covid, every single dish was delicious. Amidst Covid, the food is just the same flavorful fried goodness, but with the exception of a few items excluded from the menu. The restaurant social distances and sanitizes the tables well. It's a spacious restaurant, plus the restrooms are kept neat. Speaking of food, I honestly have never gone wrong or complained of anything. I specifically loved the fried garlic chicken with some sake. SOHO Chicken is perfect to come in a group setting to have fun and let loose. Aside from that, I implore you to dine here at least once. Korean fried chicken is something I know I shouldn't crave, but I can't help it and do anyway. With that said, I am happy Soho Chicken found a home in Chinatown. Even happier they have a full bar and of course, Soju! I arrived to Soho Chicken and it was my second dinner of the night, so I only ordered 10 pieces of their soy garlic fried chicken. Additional flavors they serve are: Spicy, Special (sweet & sour), and Fried (with dipping sauce). The soy garlic flavor was tantalizing. Definitely consider ordering it if you want something sweet, savory, and sticky. Their menu offers a variety of Katsu and other traditional Korean dishes and I want to return to explore their other items like the: Dwenjang Soup (Korean soybean paste soup) and Hwe Dup Bap (Sashimi over rice with mixed veggie). They also have a pitcher of beer and Soju for $20 and they have bottle service. They played K-pop all night while I was there - though I wish they would switch it up and play some hip-hop but either way issa party. ;) P.S. I read other reviews about bad service. Located in Chinatown, Soho Chicken is in the same trendy shopping center as Papa Beards. I stopped by on a weekday afternoon for dinner. I placed my order online and picked it up. During non-COVID times, I would love to dine in here. Most restaurants in Chinatown are pretty lackluster. Soho is clean and I was feeling the ambiance. I went with a six piece soy garlic and some Korean dumplings (forget the name). I was pretty excited as I opened up my wings that were served in a cute little box. Unfortunately, it didn't live up to the hype. The KFC was relatively soggy. A cardinal sin for wings that are supposed to be nice and crispy. The commute didn't cause the soginess as there was no commute. I ate the wings in my car right after picking them up. And the sauce was okay but didn't have that special something. I hold KFC up to Dak & Bop (RIP) standards. This was not it. The Korean dumplings, on the other hand, were solid. They're pan-fried (no steamed option) and packed full of meat. More so than dumplings or gyoza. And served with a nice dipping sauce. Comparable to their Chinese and Japanese cousins but distinct in their own way. Soho chicken left quite a bit to be desired. The Soy Garlic Chicken Wings were very average. Not enough sauce and crispiness. The Sundubu Jjigae Tofu Soup was also very average & not served boiling hot like other places. We have had it better anywhere else we have been to before. Seafood pancake has very little of seafood. Bulgogi cheese fries came as a large basket so it's better for a large group. I've only tried 4 korean style fried chicken spots and the best one in my opinion is in ktown (long point and blalock). So I must try this place. I also have a goal to eat at every single one of those restaurants in the shopping center. When you first walk in, BLACKPINK was all up in my ears, which got me in the mood for soju! They have all the flavors but my one issue is that they don't have the CHUM CHURUM PEACH flavor. I don't like the SoonHari peach soju because the fake sweetness is overpowering. So i got the white grape JINRO instead which is always a winner. $13 a pop so if you're ballin...then ball away. You get a few banchans but their miso soup was amazing. New patrons as we were craving some Korean Fried Chicken. Was pleased with the flavor of the food. Was a little disappointed in the price for the amount of food. We ordered 20 wings in 2 different sauces (spicy & soy garlic). Spicy gave us what we were craving and the soy garlic was a nice respite from the kick. We also ordered a "soup" entree. Very flavorful. The other thing we ordered in an attempt to get a side dish was a rice roll (think sushi) with rice, green onions, bits of boneless chicken). This was a disappointment, not in flavor but that I paid $11 for it. Not worth it. I would come again but will be try other places first. Service- I try to be considerate during COVID time but the server should know the menu and how to explain what the food is. I had questions and just had the server repeat what it said on the menu. Worst experience ever! Soho chicken should have their servers trained to check on every patron. Please do not ignore paying customers just because they are African American. Our server Milo was the worst, did not check on us once. We had to go to the bar when our cocktail was incorrect and had to chase Milo down to get our check after we were ignored for the entire time we patronized this restaurant. Usually bentos are filling and have lots of options. I came here for lunch bc it wasn't as crowded as others on bellaire food street. I got the bulgolgi bento and my friend got the chicken wings one ($10)...I can already name two places with bentos that are super good and filling, both less than $10, but that's still not a super bad price. The fried veggies weren't hot at all, so instead of being crispy they were kinda soggy. I'd rather have the one dumpling in there than the 3 veggies. Upon inspection there were more onions and green onions than meat. It was slow inside, so we were seated right away. We ordered the bulgogi and buldak for lunch price. It came with rice, side dishes and soup. The side dishes were lacking: only 3 provided and portion was very small to be split between my boyfriend and I. The actual meal dishes portions were okay. The bulgogi dish tasted fine, but the cheese on the buldak tasted funny, almost old. I only took a few bites before I started feeling sickened. Our service was not the best either. We noticed when we were home, both of us had stomach issues, and that was the only meal we both had the whole day.
