It was our first time trying Sofrito, and it won't be our last. We had the Alitas Caribeñas (jerk chicken wings), Rabo Encendido (oxtail stew), Paella Valenciana, and Churros. Every dish was flavorful and delicious. The restaurant location is small, but the food tastes like it was prepared with pride and care. This is a hidden gem. Update: We went back for a second time this evening. I met two of Sofrito's staff while I was there, Jorge and Tatiana, and they were great. The customer service here and the food does not disappoint. I've added some pics of our last order.

A new gem in Edgewater. This place opened a while ago, and despite the inviting decor and beautiful pictures online, I was reluctant to try it. I am usually suspicious of tiny places that remind me of the 'hole in the wall' concept. Well, when dinning in this new restaurant I was reminded that some 'holes in the wall' get a Michelin star. While I am not sure that they are ready for a star just yet, this is absolutely a fine dinning experience presented with a modest facade. Service was impeccable with friendly staff and a creative chef who visibly cooks with his heart. From the dishes we tried, the beef stew was grounding and reminded me of home. It tasted like the Columbian classic soup. My husband had a fish dish with tomato and lobster sauce. I didn't catch the name, but the flavor and preparation was AMAZING! We also tried the flan - it was rich, dense, creamy, and sweet with a touch of fruit that tasted like guava. As for the ceviche - I am a fan of the classic Peruvian Lèche De Tigre. The dish here was a play on that with a creative combination of passion fruit, mango and a spice that came as a second wind in my mouth. It was cool to experience the flavors kicking in at different times. Overall, what an experience! I walked in expecting a hole in the wall and fearing to order ceviche (and get food poisoning...) and was pleasantly surprised this uniquely creative menu, beautiful plating, talented chef and welcoming atmosphere. Much recommended!

My second time at this place and just like the first time, delicious! Already deciding on what to order next.

The food was absolutely delicious! I had the fried fish with coconut rice -- full of flavor and perfectly cooked. The service was outstanding. A special thanks to the girl who took care of us, she was incredibly kind, attentive, and made the experience even better. I'll definitely be coming back!

I got the pernil lunch special, and maduros on the side along with jugo de mora (blackberry juice). The sides and rice were especially delicious, and the workers were lovely! I love supporting new local restaurants and I highly recommend checking out Sofrito Latino for yourself!

While there is valet parking at $15, we opted to park right outside the entrance in the Target parking lot. The location is truly special In the distance you can see the George Washington bridge and one feels like on vacation. When making reservations you can request an outdoor seat which is highly recommended if the weather is good. The only downside were the occasional jet skis buzzing close by. Also, the music outside was not as loud as inside and one can have a conversation without yelling. Enzo our server was very polite and attentive. Jay the manager came around to check on us a couple of times. The food ranged from ok to vey good. The rice in both entrees was a little dry and in need of a bit of seasoning. The dessert (coconut flan) was awesome in terms of presentation and taste. Despite the awesome location, good service, and generally good food, the bill was a little pricey for what we had. I would have given it another star. Even though it's located poor of the way, we will be back and recommend it.

We had a reservation and got our seats quickly. We went to see the World Cup final and unfortunately there was only one large screen on the lawn area in front and we weren't able to see it well from our table. A DJ was playing as well so we were unable to hear the game. The music how we was great and he played Latin music - both new and old. Great playlist. To start the drinks were all great although a bit on the sweet side. It was rather busy so drink took a minute and water was also not refilled as quickly as I would have liked. Food was amazing! Everyone loved their dishes. The oxtail was amazing and super tender and flavorful. The white rice with maduros eeew great and the side of black beans. The flan was such a beautiful presentation. There was vanilla ice cream and some cream on top. The cream was a bit sweet so I didn't love that part but the flan itself was great. The only downside was how full I felt after the dinner. Would definitely return to try some more dishes.

One thing I do know is that I definitely didn't get the chicharrón or the pernil. Once we walked in, the host seated us at an open table. The restaurant is pretty spacious, with music playing in the background. I also noticed a DJ booth, so I'm guessing it gets pretty lively at night. I ended up ordering the daily special, the Pernil al Horno ($15), which came with white rice and beans. The pernil was topped with crispy pork skin, which I really appreciated. It was juicy, flavorful, and the crispy skin added the perfect crunch to every bite. My friend ordered the chicharrón, and it was awesome. It wasn't overly fatty, just the right balance of meat, fat, and crispy skin. Every bite had the perfect combination of crunch and flavor. I'll definitely be back for the chicharrón, as a snack or a full meal. If you're a fan of chicharrón, I highly recommend giving this place a try. * Parking on premise * Outdoor dining available

However, every time I visit this place I can clearly say I truly enjoy my meal. You also can get a cold beer for about 6 dollars which is reasonable compared to other places. The issue is they make some things really well and maybe others not so great. I always eat a few things I know they make well. After all you don't order a filet at a fried chicken joint. Today I visited after being disappointed at the Freakin Rican spot on Cedar lane. See that review for details. I went by Elsa's and ordered some Mofongo with their famous Chicharones and it was delicious. Perfectly seasoned and paired with some delicious sauce that was perfect. My wife had oxtails with rice and beans and they were delicious too! We enjoyed a couple of really cold beers each and our bill was only around 60 dollars. The place has a really relaxing atmosphere and the service was good. I had to battle with a couple of knats but it just added to the entertainment, lol! The place could use some remodeling and cleaning but at least they consistently serve me good food at a great price. If you go there just temper your expectations. It reminds me of a roadside eatery in the islands which always serves good food but you have to battle with some bugs. Lmao!
