Celebrated my husband Luis' birthday with lunch at Socarrat Spanish Restaurant and it was such a great experience. He's from Madrid, so we're a bit particular with Spanish food, and this place really delivered. Everything we ordered was on point. The jamón croquetas were creamy inside with the perfect crisp outside. The aceitunas were simple but high quality. The boquerones were fresh and well balanced. The jamón ibérico 5A was incredible. The branzino was cooked perfectly. The pan con tomate was done right, which honestly says a lot. We finished with a cortado and a guava and goat cheese dessert that was a perfect ending. It is a bit pricey, but you can tell the ingredients are top tier and thoughtfully sourced, so it makes sense. Grateful for Chef Gabriel Reyes and the whole team. Location has a ton of potential. Nice place. Limited seating. And I assume understaffed. Called in for an RSVP. I was told that they are booked. I asked if the bar area was available and it was so snagged two seats there. Upon arrival and being seated the restaurant was are 60% capacity. For the duration of the dinner plenty of open tables which explains the theory of "under staffed" As per the dining. Beverages were simple. Price was expected between 12-18 bucks per cocktail. Food options were less than spectacular. Started with Garlic shrimp. Very simple. Little on the underwhelming side. Lemon or red pepper floor could elevate this dish a long way. Next I ordered the Suckling Pig Cochinillo. Again a bit bland. I was expecting a little more punch from the Pork but sadly it missed the mark like it wasn't seasoned. The apple blu cheese confit was ok and the potato was minimal and lacked presentation. The seafood Paella left us wanting. I was expecting the crispy texture change from the base of the pan with the crispy caramelized bits of rice but it terribly missing the mark (which is expected with a name like Socarrat). Finally the chicken was super tough and again missing seasoning. In the end this place CAN be something exciting. At last, Katy has a restaurant with truly authentic Spanish cuisine. Bravo From our very first visit, we fell in love not only with the beautiful space and excellent service, but also with how authentic and delicious the food is. On the back of all the servers T-shirts is the phrase "soft opening"... if they can maintain the level of service and food we received last night I'd like their soft opening phase to remain forever. This is a lovely little dining establishment and I would note little because even though they are officially not open, the restaurant filled up a great deal yesterday evening. At no point did that compromise either the service or the quality of food however it is a note to those who are reading and wondering about whether they should visit the restaurant earlier rather than later as I would imagine it will fill up quite quickly. And why will it fill up is the question? ....and the answer is that it is truly Spanish food it is not fusion. It is real Spanish food cooked quite well by a chef who obviously has cooked Spanish food for quite some time. We started with the vary, very lightly fried croquettes, both ham and cheese, and frankly both were incredibly good perfectly cooked to a light golden brown with a very lite shell over them. You really could not have asked for anything better. Although there's a full bar, we elected to drink Spanish wine I do not recollect the label however it was an organic Spanish wine and a perfect compliment to the meal. Typical to Spanish wine it is a blend however, this was a very smooth finish. We accompanied the croquettes with crystal bread and frankly, I should have waited until my Pulpo. But I'll get to that in a moment. We parted ways for the entrée one of us had paella which was very well done, not as heavily seasoned, as I am accustomed to, but served with an abundance of seafood. It is a meal that can clearly be shared since the serving is large. It was, however, simply wonderful.. I told you I had the pulpo and for those of you who read what I write, you know it's amongst my favorite dishes and this I must tell you was cooked to absolute perfection at no time did I require a knife... a fork was more than adequate and it was just wonderfully cooked very lightly seasoned by something I could not identify. The chef made his appearance several times during the meal and he's an absolute delight and very, very informative about the procedures he uses to accomplish what is really an artists canvas.. The ambience is wonderful on this particular evening. Paco de Lucia was playing steel guitar on a TV screen and for those of you who enjoy steel guitar you already know the quality of music. We had a great meal here. We so rarely get Spanish restaurants here and it was a great surprise to have one in Katy. The atmosphere is beautiful, the menu is small but well done. My kids loved the seafood pallea, croquettes and patatas bravas. My kids even ate the muscles and squid! The service was attentive and we will be back to try some other dishes. This review is about the business not the food, since unfortunately we drove all the way over but weren't able to eat there. We looked online ahead to make reservations, but they don't have an online reservation system. In 2026, that's really unacceptable. But what's worse is that they informed us when we arrived that they don't take walk-ins. If this is the business model, that should be noted clearly on the website. The restaurant was half empty (as another reviewer noted) so I'm guessing they could've made an accommodation. Or they need more staff. In any case, you only get one chance to make a first impression as a business. It's unlikely we'll given them another chance. I guess we'll stick with driving to MAD in River Oaks for great Spanish food and atmosphere. read more

We walked in a little bit before 7pm and was told that they don't take walk-ins until later in the night. Even though the entire restaurant was 75% empty. We asked to sit at the bar which is fine. They had a giant tv playing a YouTube video of coffee shop edm... it was so loud and honestly killed the entire ambiance. We tried the croquettes and paella which was good but I found a hair in my mussel. I do wish it was crispier. That's the best part about paella. We also ordered a bottle of wine which we asked to cork to take home. The bartender smashed the cork back into the bottle which made it impossible to open again without breaking the cork into pieces. The wine ended being ruined and we wasted $50/bottle. I would say there is a lot they need to improve on because my experience was far below average. read more
