Honestly, the staff was super nice and the place was very clean. The chicken came out fresh and hot but my issue is that the flavors were kind of lacking. The sweet chili was weak and didn't have much flavor. The honey BBQ reminded me of that off brand stuff you get at the grocery store cuz it's cheap. Super high expectations for this place. I was pondering what to have for dinner the last few minutes at work and went on Yelp only to come across this. I used to live super close to them but never had the opportunity to try (more like I forgot the existed) lol. Anyways- called in to order a bunch of things because I am buying dinner for my sister too. Let's break it down by item: Spicy BBQ Wings: This was so dry. It is supposed to be saucy and very flavorful with that musky and tangy bbq taste but this completely lacks that. Not spicy at all! Not even a little kick of spiciness. This looked like it belong on the dry rub side of the menu. Speaking of which... let's transition into that next. Giving them 1 star for this. Smoky BBQ Wings: The flavor once again was subdued. Where's the BBQ taste? Where's that smoky flagrant kick you're supposed to get with the dry rub flavoring? It tasted like a mild- VERY mild buffalo flavor. Not enough seasoning. Giving them 1 star for this. Garlic Parmesan: Not what I had expected at all- but this is a dry rub versus your traditional saucy one. I do like the chunky bits of garlic and cheese. Just wish they would dust a bit more parmesan all over the wings to fully enhance the flavor. Giving them 2 stars for this. House Special Wings: Description for this is "sweet and savory sauce tossed with jalapeño pepper and green onions". Mine was missing the green onions. This was a very strange flavor. It has a faint fish saucy taste to it. Maybe I referenced that in my palate because I am super asian. This one out of the bunch I could not reach for a 3rd wing. First wing is for 1st impression. 2nd wing for redemption hahah and 3rd is the passing wing. I couldn't pass it. It just tasted really strange. I tried to dip it in one of the sauce to see if I can either enhance the flavor or mask it to make the taste enjoyable but that didn't work. Zero stars!! Sauces: I got cajun, blue cheese, honey mustard and ranch. I friggin love my sauces but man oh man I did not enjoy any of their sauce. It just tasted off. I can't fully describe it. Ehh? Mashed Potatoes: This was soooo flavorless. I love mashed potatoes and everywhere I go that offered it on the menu I usually order it. It tasted super plain like there is no seasoning added to the mash. The gravy was also "mild". There that word goes again. It tasted plain. Like dreadfully plain. Zero stars. Tater Tots: They were pretty decent. Tasted just like any other tater tots out there. No complaints here. 3 stars. House Milk Tea: This is milk tea done right. I love milk tea with black tea as the base. This reminds me of Tebo's milk tea which is also in my range of "milk tea done right". There is a good balance of sweetness, tea concentration and a slightly creamy taste of milk. None of the 3 overpowering each other which creates the perfect flavor in which I judge very critically. LOL. I love my milk teas!! 4 stars. So I didn't enjoy 80% of my food today even though it smelled so darn good when I picked it up and anticipated devouring them the moment I got home... I am still giving So Cal Wings 3 stars with a chance for redemption. There are a few other flavors I would like to try and see if maybe those ones are their better executed wings. Another reason for 3 stars instead of 1 or 2 is the customer service. The girls were super sweet. I paid for my order after arriving and sat down to wait. I like to check in to places so I opened the app and realized that you get a free Large upgrade for any drink order when you check in. I went up and asked if I could still check in and receive the upgrade even though I already paid and ended the transaction. They said YES. YASSSSSS that was awesome.
