After spending a hot afternoon at Jones beach this afternoon and soaking up a bit too much sun, the gf and I immediately knew we had to cool off with some acai bowls. I wanted to switch it up this time around so I ordered the stupid cupid, which consisted of a blended strawberry and banana base, as well as coconut milk, blueberry flax granola, strawberries, coconut flakes, cacao, nutella and finally, white chocolate. Looking forward to exploring more of the menu throughout the rest of the summer!

Since we always get their Pitaya or Green bowls, this was our first time trying their açaí based bowl. I decided to try their Nutella açaí bowl, which comes with strawberry, banana, and Nutella spread. Since I love blueberries, they let me swap the strawberry for blueberry which was nice. I could also choose a second base, so I picked their banana base, which I don't usually see at other places. My family got their Tropical bowl, which comes with pineapple, banana, and honey. The server was nice, and they made our açaí bowls quickly, neat and nice! What I love about Playa Bowl is that their base tastes amazing and is creamy, and the portion of fruit is great! They're usually around $16, which is a little expensive compared to other places, but it's definitely worth it. They have so many varieties of bowls with different kinds of base, the acai, Pitaya, green and banana. They also sometimes have seasonal bowl, which right now is the strawberry based bowl :) so you can try different ones each time you visit and find your favorite! My favorite so far is the Electric Mermaid, which comes with pineapple, mango, and kiwi on a Pitaya base. This location was great, nice and quiet, not crowded. If you haven't had a chance to try it yet, you should definitely try!!

For the smoothie it's 98% ice and no substantial fruit. They upcharged me $1 for oat milk but they did not inform me that oat milk is extra. You're suppose to give the customer the choice if they want to pay for the upsell or not. The cashier never mentioned that it was extra. To make matters worse. I called the store and told them that the smoothie was watery and the cashier who made it said "that's just the way it is" "we follow a recipe, I don't know what to tell you" How atrocious is the lack of customer service skills and all around horrible problem solving skills. Never did she try to make up for it. I verbalized my unhappiness. I told her I'm throwing it away. She said ok. Never once did she offer to remake it, offer a credit for another smoothie on a different visit or a refund. There's so many different ways a company can make it right. The cashier is awful all around. I highly do not recommend. Save your money and go somewhere else.

One employee and I never ever go there.. but one was annoying.. I kept trying to catch her when she came to the front and saw the young man unable to ring me up and give me change.. she kept grinning hysterically at a delivery pick up guy and walking back to the back and to him over some item once made there.. All while ignoring the desperate cashier who could not figure how to get change.. and ignoring me. Ten minutes it felt like.. So I had to say something like... Something is really wrong here... you are all not helping this man... and NO ONE is making the bowls or green drinks in the station behind the front.. Staff were standing further back and going past the station - making nothing- to the front and back again discussing various things. Finally the girl and one guy began to make my order which was called in 15 minutes before.. and the girl kept looking toward me then giggling toward the other worker. I said excuse me.. but laughing while preparing someone's food is going to get the order cancelled.. I tried to explain that was not ok... but they simply seemed too simple to get it.. and I wanted the Acai bowls and green drink.. so ignored my own demands. It was that kind of warp I was in. It was like a ten minute time warp of Wacky and distressed food service. Would be four stars for the items because the flavors were great and the two guys were very nice! Just a downer for them in there.. Not enough AC and software that was freezing for both guys. This place is doable for some .. but the kind of place my mother could never go to.. She has no patience for off behavior of people preparing food. * Update note -- stopped in AGAIN in need of Acai & Green drink and totally professional young guy was in and all was normal. Will return... And deal with any young staff issues for the trade off of healthy drinks.

It was 10:40 and I couldn't order a poke bowl nor the flatbread bc the protein, rice and eggs weren't ready yet. I ended up just getting 4 orders of avocado toast and 2 açaí bowls. The bread wasn't toasted enough so with the avocado on top, it made them soggy and they were heavy handed with the red pepper flakes making it too spicy- my daughter couldn't eat it but thankfully, my son liked it. On the other hand, the açaí bowls were good- the granola remained crunchy even after mixing the base & toppings together, which is pretty impressive. I would definitely come back for that and possibly try their poke bowls too.
