Patience is not always my virtue but I'm more than happy when it shows up in my food. Had the most amazing chicken Pho last night. The broth was rich and had a depth of flavor that only time could achieve. I'm told the broth simmers overnight and it shows. Thai basil, bean sprouts, noodles. I have eaten from here a few times over the past year and typically their food is delicious. I had a rare beef PHO and the meat smelled off as soon as I opened the container. I also ordered the "shaking beef" and repeated the order when ask if I wanted broccoli and beef reconfirmed when we picked up order that it was shaking beef... it was not. Got home...It was broccoli and beef, and sensed a bit of impatience and attitude from the person taking the order. They offer a good variety of vegan options which all kind of taste the same. We ordered the vegan eggrolls which were dripping in oil, but still pretty good, the vegan pho soup, which didn't have much flavor to it, and the noodles were all broken apart, and a vegan noodle stirfry. I would say the noodle stirfry was the best item we ordered and the only item I would re order. The soup and noodles had the same vegetables like broccoli, bok choy, carrots, onions, and included fried tofu. The service was good and food came out pretty quick. Marblehead probably isn't the first place that comes to mind when you decide you want Vietnamese cuisine, but it probably should be. Soall Bistro is delicious. I've been wanting to try them forever, and I found out about them because of their pop-up, Nightshade, which is doing some really innovative cuisine (no, I haven't been, because I always miss them when I'm home). Soall is cute and modern and I like that they have a decent-sized to-go/waiting area as well as a welcoming dining room. The service is fantastic. I forget my server's name but I loved her. For my meal, I started with the shrimp goi cuon (always a favorite of mine) and grilled beef and betel leaves. I then opted for the lunch special, a 1/2 bun bowl with a side of cucumber salad. The goi cuon was super fresh, and I like that you can order just one roll. I have no words to describe the grilled beef and betel leaves. You just have to order it. It is so fragrant and so flavorful. The leaves are slightly crisp and the beef is tender. I don't think I've ever had anything like it. Do not miss this item. As for the bun, I was quite side they didn't offer pork, as bun cha is my go-to. I opted for chicken, as I already had beef and shrimp. I didn't care for the chicken--it was underseasoned and slightly dry. But all the ingredients were fresh, and I kept some of the tamarind sauce from the betel leaves appetizer to add into it, along with the nuoc cham, and that mix worked well. I enjoyed my cucumber and Thai basil salad, which was quite refreshing. I wanted to return to try more on the menu, but did not get a chance during this trip. I'll definitely be back when I visit again and will bring my dad (mainly so he can pay, but also because he needs to try Soall). I'd be a regular if I still lived on the North Shore. read more

Yikes. Would like to be supportive of Soall but the quality control left when the owners moved to the Beverly restaurant. Wonderful concept for an Asian restaurant in Marblehead but it's gone down hill like a rolling stone. Ordered the beef pho with beef on the side and received questionable pieces of "rare" uncooked beef. Showed it to the counter people at check out who told me, "that's how we receive the beef". Really? maybe you nuked frozen beef? The more authoritative of the 2 turned on her heel and walked behind the kitchen curtain. You accept raw beef with brown splotches and sell it to your customers? Great broth - really great broth but horrible beef and service 'tude". Enjoy at risk but enough is enough. This restaurant will fail (like most in Marblehead) eventually because they are absent owners and have school kids running the business. Enjoy! I've been to a ton of pho spots, Soall by all accounts is a rarity among the many. The owners really get it. From the atmosphere, where their dining room aesthetics are simple and distressed enough to warrant a sense of familiarity. To their playful menu. The Chef, carries a personal and thoughtful point of view that speaks effectively and is executed very well. When was the last time you saw tuna tartare, braised pork ribs, whole fried snapper, or pho with bone marrow and poached eggs as options for a Vietnamese restaurant? Soall Bistro, cares about their food and they're inviting those that have dared to have wanted more from a Vietnamese dining experience to push their palates and join them. They've left nothing to chance. Even their service is not the norm. Nikki, our server was outstanding. She made us feel completely welcomed and comfortable while anticipating our needs throughout service. She was professional and charming while checking in at the right moments to make sure everything was up to Soall standard. Coming from a Vietnamese background I thought I would give it a try. Ordered a chicken sprjng roll and a shrimp spring roll, the chicken was really dry and the greens to noodle ratio was off, to much greens it over-powered the noddles. The shrimp spring roll was mediocre. As a main dish I ordered the chicken pho and just to much fat around the bowl and in the soup, I had to scoop what I could out. The flavor was ok with a bit on the salty side. The service was good but the young lady who took my ordered took about ten minutes to get me a diet coke. The setting is very nice and clean.As I was eating I see smoke coming from behind the counter so I stood up to check what was going on and I see the young girl vaping. We order delivery from Soall in Marblehead ever 10 day or so. On 5/7/21 someone forgot to include the rice and side for the claypot salmon. This has happened one time before. The first time it happened, I called and the person answering the phone had a new claypot made and sent over with rice and side right away. That's the correct response when you screw up. On the 7th the person answering the phone suggested I could come over and pick up the item they forgot or they could credit me back for the entree. She said it was hard to do anything else because of the delivery service. I don't think it's an acceptable solution for me to come pick something up that I paid $5 delivery and $5 tip on. Sadly, we're taking a break from Soall. Also, I never saw a credit on my card for the entree. read more

Inconsistent beyond what any restaurant that wants to stay in business should be. Nothing ever seems to be prepared the same way twice. How can this be? They seem to bring in cooks who do whatever the hell they want, following no recipes. So one day grilled Vietnamese pork is prepared one way and the next it looks like it was prepared by a vegan who disdains the very thought of meat. This is just an example. Place has been in business for a while now. They had their act together for a time, but are losing it with lousy cooks who don't know Vietnamese cuisine. I like this place. The atmosphere is pretty chill, it's clean and simplistic. The menu is rather small but I will assume that means they can focus on providing a better product. I love Vietnamese Beef Pho, and so that's what I ordered along with some spring rolls. I knew that with this place being located in Marblehead that it would be missing what makes Pho most authentic which is tendon and tripe. I was right and there was nothing on the menu that would suggest that I could get those items with my order. The only option I was given was brisket which was additional $$. The presentation of the dish wasn't very exciting at all, it looked much less full than what I would get at many other places. The only ingredient that would make this a meal I would return for, is if the broth was on point. I was NOT disappointed. The broth was fantastic, I would say a bit above average. I would have to say that this is one of the finest restaurants in Marblehead, if not the whole north shore area. Some of the freshest, most wonderful food I've had the pleasure of enjoying. The smoked tea glazed quail is seriously out of this world - probably one of my top ten dishes of all time. PLEASE do yourself a favor and try it - I've never had quail cooked more perfectly. Lunch menu is a steal as well. The service deserves a whole 'nother five stars of it's own. Such friendly, warm, and lovely people who are obviously huge supporters of what they are serving. Sadly this place, once our twice a week go-to, has decided to fix what wasn't broken. The first sign of "improvements" was about three months ago, when they had blaring music that included commercials. Then we started to notice some things dropping off the menu. Final straw last week was when the vegetarian pho was removed from the menu. So, that's that. During the last meal we heard three people asking for it, and yesterday alone I had two friends (separately) tell me they had been in to warm up during the cold, only to be told their veggie pho was gone. Went to Soall Bistro with my wife on what had to be one of the coldest nights of the year. I'm originally from the North Shore, and we were in town for our tenth wedding anniversary. The service was attentive, but a little oppressive, in that people seemed a bit too eager to confirm our choices. We started off with the pork ribs (waiter: 'good choice!') and the spring rolls -- both were quite tasty. But as the restaurant started to fill, the service began to lag a bit. We waited and waited for our bowls of pho, which we figured -- since it was the coldest night of the year -- would be perfect. What better than a hot bowl of Vietnamese soup? When our pho finally did arrive (what took so long?), mine was hot. My wife's, however, was bonkers. The bowl was warm, but her soup was COLD. Cold as the frosty, wintry night outside. I just couldn't figure this situation out, which seemed to defy physics. When the waiter came over to check, we sent the cold pho back to be microwaved. The waiter did this all in good humor, but...you know, it's SOUP, and serving cold soup to any patron on a freezing night (heck, any night!) should have been instantly 'comped.' It wasn't. While we were waiting for the soup to reappear, the waiter came over and asked me if I wanted sangria -- that 'she' had heard me mumble something about sangria. This was totally bizarre -- not only did I not want sangria, or say anything about it, but who was potentially eavesdropping on me and assigning me some random beverage? Got my first takeout order of Shrimp Spring Rolls (Yelpers rave about them here) and the Chicken Curry Soup. Fragrant curry blended with chicken meat was worth the 10 bucks. Glad I discovered this rare Vietnamese restaurant here. They are few and far between on the North Shore. And it looks like they're expanding next door so life is good at Soall Bistro! Several people here requested vegetarian dishes, and Soall has a good selection for them. The caramelized eggplant Banh Mi was enjoyed even by someone who doesn't normally like eggplant. I have always loved soall until this evenings experience. I have gotten take out from there several times since their opening (against my husbands wishes as he believes it to be overly expensive with small portions that aren't filling). Loved many things on their menu and was always excited for my meal. Well this evening we decided to place an order for take out and saw that they had a new menu. Bummed that so many of my favorites were taken off the menu but decided to still give it a shot. I'm sorry I did. The pho was barely cooked and did not taste good at all. The noodles were undercooked, they only used dark chicken meat, and not fixable by any means. Very disappointed and will be taking this off my go to list of restaurants for Marblehead. read more
