My parents used to bring me to this place and for some reason,​ I stopped going several years ago. I was looking for a local Chinese restaurant and began going to Chef' Wang's on Jericho Turnpike after seeing it on Restaurant Hunters on FIOS. Chef Wang's is delicious, ​however, my family and I always were sent to the bathroom for several hours after eating there. That's when we decided to go back to So Far So Good and all I can say is "WOW!' I'm so glad we came back! When we decided to we ordered: Wonton Egg Drop Soup, Vegetable Fried Rice, General Tso's Chicken, Chicken with Broccoli and Egg Rolls. The soup was absolutely​ delicious. The broth is velvety smooth and has a lot of flavor and the wontons are to die for! The Egg Rolls were crispy, fresh, had a lot of flavors​ and not at all greasy. The rest of our meal was fresh, hot and absolutely delicious. We ordered to good and not only was the order correct, ​but it was also packaged well. Oh, and the crunchy noodles for the soup are the old fashion kind. You know the ones that are made in the restaurant and are delicious. Also, the Duck Sauce is fresh and the kind that is made in-house! Yum!!!!!!! We wanted to make sure that this wasn't a fluke and wanted to make sure that this was​ a​​ consistent example of the quality of their food so we tried the same order on different days to go and as a delivery to our home and guess what????? All occasions​ So Far So Good provided high quality, great tasting, well-packaged​ food, every single time! I would go as far to say that So Far So Good is serving some of the best Chinese food on Long Island. I've been to serval places from here (and the Orient which is in Bethpage and its sister restaurant in Jericho) and So Far So Good can beat both places hands-down! read more

I'm a big fan of the silly name of this place. "So Far So Good" was pretty satisfactory Americanized Chinese take-out. I ordered the boneless spare rib combination, which came with pork fried rice, wonton soup, and egg roll. I liked that the boneless spare rib was substantial and meaty (i.e., not the gross fatty pieces you sometimes see elsewhere). The downside was that the meat was not sauced in any way, so my dinner as a whole felt a little dry. The wonton soup was perhaps a bit below average, but the egg roll was very good. Rice was fine. I have to be honest, the only reason we tried this was the name of the place. And we are glad we did. The place is huge, the staff was pretty friendly and the food was ok. We recently moved from Queens to Long Island, so we are pretty critical when is comes to Asian cuisine. The food selection here was vast and they had some pretty authentic sounding dishes. We opted to stay "American" with our choices and it was better than most comparable restaurants serving similar fare. Overall a good experience and worth a try for anyone passing by. read more

The portions are good, I had ordered a lunch special and got enough food to split for two days. The food came pretty quickly and wasn't overly salty. I had the chicken lo mein with chicken wings. 8 pcs of chicken and the lo mein cost 13.95. Which is on the average side for lunch in NY. Don't put the hot mustard on anything. It tastes like foot powder but the duck sauce is amazing. This is not the best chinese food you will ever have but it is good when you are hungry and start to consider if the paper on your desk is edible. read more

A throwback to Chinese restaurants of many years ago without the flavor of those. High sodium, yet no taste. Amazing. Vegetable fried rice had no taste. Broccoli in garlic sauce had so much sodium you had to get rid of the sauce to eat it. Scallion pancake was like bread dipped in oil. Not a good experience. read more

I come here fairly often. The have really good lunch specials and I've never had a bad experience here. They have both Chinese and Japanese food and it's definitely above par in comparison to any other similar restaurants in the area. I find the food to be consistent and the service to be quick and friendly. Even in the evening when it's kind of crowded you'll be seated quickly. So if you're looking for a pleasurable Chinese American dining experience, I'm sure you will leave here satisfied. read more

So Far So Good has been a family staple since it was called Dr. Foo's. For the longest time we celebrated everything there, and it'll be a huge part of my memory for years to come because of all the events tied to there. The staff is friendly, attentive, and inviting, so it's got an atmosphere that's really well suited for a good ol' fashioned bonding experience. The food is good staple American Chinese. My mother is really sensitive to MSG and tends to get dehydrated and sick from it, but we've had no problems here (obviously not, or we wouldn't have returned). The food's turned around quickly, and it's fresh and never greasy. There's generally a lot of food, but it makes for pretty good left overs, too. Watch out for the fried noodle chips, though - they're so nummy, they're dangerous and are likely to spoil your appetite... read more

This is my favorite restaurant in the world, yes the world. I know your saying how is a chinese restaurant on Long Island your favorite in the world? Its not just the food that is incredible and consistant, but it is total nostalga. I have been going here with my family for 15+ years, since we moved to Long Island. The staff has never changed, and neither has the menu. We have had family parties here, sunday night dinners, christmas dinners, you name it weve done it. My favorite dishes are as follows: appetizers: chicken dumplings, wan-ton soup, scallion pancakes, ribs, spring roll dinner: shrimp and eggplant, general tsos chicken, chicken and broccoli, and anything rice or pasta based They also have incredible sushi. Although I am not generally a fan of Asian food to begin with, this is my go to place when my family wants Chinese food . . . and when they do I will generally get my small repertoire of Chinese food which includes the boneless spareribs, shrimp toast, General Tao's Chicken and the such. My family member have a wider variety of interest in various Chinese dishes and they enjoy it quite a bit. The one thing I do appreciate, more often than not from So Far So Good . . . they have a quality Sushi bar. They have regular specials for their sushi rolls, of which I have tried a few which are always fresh and tasty. My general fallback for their sushi offerings is their "Spicy Lovers" which is a combination three different rolls, topped with a spicy mayo. When we eat there (as opposed to calling for take out or/and delivery), the service is prompt, the food is fresh and the atmosphere is pleasant. Note that delivery can be 45 minutes or more, and parking can be sparse if you are just stopping by to pick up, but there is a municipal lot nearby. read more

Firstly, the food was tasty. Not the greasy, what is the meat I ordered again, type of place at all. Very fresh tasting veggies, we were there early in the afternoon and the staff was sifting through a giant pile of string beans picking out the "bad ones"!! And a super helpful calm staff. The waiter had gotten visibly irritated at us after we made a few special requests upon his return after taking our orders . . . so remember to ask for everything during that portion of your meal & NOT AFTERWARDS! haha . . . We stopped in New Years eve for a quick bite . The wait staff were extremely rude to us . The guy that puts down your water, tea and crispy noodles awkwardly dumped them on our table it wasn't welcoming it just made us feel a little uncomfortable. (Probably not v experienced at his job.) The waitress(a middle aged woman whom you may think had customer service experience )was screaming at me because i ordered soup. (It was a large one) as I was contemplating the menu she actually reprimanded me. She began screaming that there is a 10.00 minimum per person for table service. I asked her: Can you show us where it says that anywhere in the restaurant or in the menu.? She kept screaming palace rules. I reminded her that we were in a restaurant, not a place. We asked for the check . In the past we had dined there frequently and had rather large take out delivery orders delivered to our home. We will no longer patronize this establishment. We didn't appreciate CCP treatment in our country on what was a happy occasion otherwise. Over 40 years we had patronized them!! No wonder the dinning room was practically empty! read more

So Far, So Good is one of those standby places you know that you can rely on when the weather's bad, there's too long of a wait at other restaurants, or you simply can't decide where to go. I don't think that I've ever waited for a table here, which speaks more about the level of service than anything else. As for the food, it's not terrible, but there's nothing about it that makes me really want to keep going back. It's standard American Chinese fare, with some sub-par sushi and a few Japanese dishes on the menu -- they recently added Thai as well, and the Pad Thai is semi-decent given that they're not a full-out Thai place. If you're desperate to go out somewhere and you're craving Chinese food that will do the job, this is a good pick. read more

Ate here last night with a party of 8 (3 are kids). The seating was easy. Even with a large party we were seated without a wait. This was very good and made our hungry group very happy. The waiter was very nice when we arrived and took our appeteizer and soup order first...the issue here is he did not come back for our regular orders until we finished eating our appetizers! Hello? The food itself was good for what it was. The Chicken dumpling was good, but not much in terms of flavor without the sauce. The soup was the best part of the meal. I loved my egg drop/wonton mix. The rest of the food was generally small portions, making sharing difficult....this is abnormal for Chinese places. I was still hungry when i left. The broccoli was hard on the chicken and broccoli order. The Lemon chicken sauce was very good. As you can see the food was generally uneven in taste. My son and I ordered dinner on Sat night. Food taste on combo platters were fine but tend to wonder why 26.00 for 2 combo platters is worth it. The boneless spare rib combo was smaller than last time with less ribs. Pork fried rice portion much smaller. So they raise the menu prices and reduce portions. Not sure why there are so many rave reviews of this place. To me its just ok. Yes this type of sit down Chinese joint is a dying breed, so maybe that's it. I have found the food to be inconsistent. Service is decent, but a little rushed. Soups are good, egg rolls are GREASY!!! On my last visit I had shredded chicken with green beans. Some of the chicken was undercooked, and some of the beans were hard. I don't recommend that dish at all. They do have an early bird Mon-Thur 4-6 I believe where you get soup, appetizer and dessert with your entrée for no extra charge. (not on holidays) read more

I understand COVID & BUSINESSES LOST MONEY BUT Just close down already, if you cant serve a decent lunch portion. I ordered 4 chicken wings with fried rice and side order of shrimp toast $15 LATER. OK lets just start by saying SO FAR SO VERY BAD! The four chicken wings was two pieces of OLD chicken cut in half. The fried rice was white rice mixed with something dark and burnt just disgusting I ASKED IF THEY ADD EGGS SHE SAID LITTLE how about it has one tiny piece of egg and nothing else in the fried/burnt rice. The shrimp toast WAS soaked in grease and it was basically shredded onions and shrimp but w/o the shrimp. the soup came in a coffee cup:( I asked for ketchup and hot sauce was told they don't have any only hot mustard. I'm livid because the portion they gave wasn't enough to feed a baby and it was DISGUSTING. read more

This place serves pretty decent family style Chinese food. I've eaten here about six times, each time satisfied but never impressed. The service is inconsistent it ranges widely from good to very poor. You'll get that waiter who clearly hates his life and yours - but then again you also get the waiter who is attentive, patient, helpful, and friendly. The space is large. The menu is varied. Despite being a Chinese restaurant, they also serve good sushi. While this is some of the better Chinese food in the area - these vocal chords aren't singing any praises. Definitely worth it if you live in the Valley Stream/Lynbrook area - otherwise I wouldn't troop it. read more

Wahooo! Back at home on good old Lawn Guyland! As soon as I get off of the LIRR, I find myself back at one of my old favorites, So Far So Good. Everything is exactly as I remembered: the faux-traditional Chinese decor, the dim lighting, and the giant fish tank that every Chinese restaurant seems to have (Glub Glub). We were seated immediately even though it was a Friday night, and started munching on the complimentary fried crispy things( I should really find out the name for those) with a side of duck sauce or yellow mustard. Yay greasy carby goodness! The food took quite a while arrive. Grr. We had the Young-chow fried rice (typical), Mapo tofu( not spicy enough), lamb with scallions( a-okay), and the chicken-and-corn soup( delish!). I've been spoiled with the multitude of delicousness that NYC has to offer, but So Far So Good is still okay compared to city standards! I'll be back here again...eventually... read more

What we sampled: Steamed dumplings I really enjoyed the pork and chicken, but the vegetable dumplings tasted like the soggy insides of an eggroll and they were very peppery. Egg Rolls Delicious and with the hot mustard and duck sauce it was perfect! General Tso's Chicken Decent version and when we requested it extra spicy they definitely delivered! Shrimp and Honey Walnuts This was in a red sauce which is different than what I am used to, but the shrimp were large and fresh and the sauce wasn't cloying. The food is delicious!! Not greasy, versatile menu, very consistent. You can get sushi rolls and what you're used to for Chinese food. It's nice to have the option to sit down instead of the usual take-out or delivery for Chinese food. My favorite is anything in garlic sauce. Delicious! So why the 3 stars? So.. how do I say this nicely. I guess there is no way to sugar coat it. My husband found a dead roach under his plate. He didn't inform me until I had finished eating so that I didn't end up getting sick right there and then. He grabbed it with a napkin and placed it on the table with the roach side up so that the server was able to see it. The server came, grabbed the napkin and just walked away without saying a word. The chicken wings tasted like it was fried in an oil with 100yrs of existence. Just weird. The fried chicken dumplings tasted stale. The Mushu pork was ok but a little tough to chew (pork). This was just a horrible experience. When we paid the bill, I told the different waiter about the roach incident. She just took the cash, said, "Oh, so sorry we sprayed already" and went about her day. Wrong on all levels. Will not return. read more

We've tried Chinese takeout a couple of times from this place, and won't again. In the world of takeout, they are quite expensive. We expected large portions for the prices listed but this isn't the case. The food is just ok at best. I ordered my favorite, chicken with Chinese eggplant.
