We might be…read moremelting on the outside but we can stay cold on the inside with these perfectly fluffy snow cones. The kids I've seen working there are kind and patient with people's questions and quick with counting change -- it's cash-only here! This isn't the kind of snow cone stand where you hang out during the day -- you're in a parking lot with no tables and zero shade. This is literally just a little box of a building with a window -- a happy fortress of frozen treats in the middle of an asphalt desert. But people will kinda hang around in and outside of their cars after the sun goes down. I like to get the "teletubbies" specialty flavor which is pina colada and pineapple. I love a coconutty dessert (they have a sugar-free coconut syrup here that's really good). And then of course I like to add a little cream...! It's so summery and delicious.

I make little secret of the love that I harbor for snow cone joints, and the way that I see it,…read morethat's at least a singular pleasure derived in the face of a summer climate that regularly springs 100+ temperatures on locals in the summer. In lay terms, I'm saying it gets hot here, and the advent of said hotness surprises no one, and we all tend to queue (if we're paying attention) when the mercury spikes with the inherent idea that cooling down with flavor beats just cooling down any old day. And so, it was, that I set upon Snow Place Like Home, a likely entrant in Fort Worth's fictional Most Punny Business Name award, although it says probably something about me that I at least considered that it me be punny times two (one and a half?) if it might be No Place Like Cone instead. That said, they didn't ask me, it's run by a TCU kid, and I got the chance to gulp down a little flavor in the hardscrabble heat of Texas summer as a bonus. No complaints. There are things they do quite well here as little extras and things that I found a challenge: for folks accompanied by little ones, they top most cones with gummy bears. On the less perfect side, I'm not 100% sure that the flavors I asked for were the ones I got, and they were out of cream on this day. Perhaps that's a big sell. Either way, it's good that if you're cruising down University on a steamy summer day and you spy a trailer in the parking lot of Ol' South, there's a pretty good chance it's this one. And you'll be helping along a local enterprising college kid in the process. But I'm ready for 'em to really nail those flavors, and talk up all the mash-ups mix-ups I loved as a kid. And for that reason, I'll be back again. Because with the little one in all of us, hope abounds.

What all can you really say about a snow-cone?…read more Apparently a lot, according to my wife who had a serious...and I do mean serious...craving for snowcones during her pregnancy. For those following my reviews, you're likely noticing a pretty large trend ^. Anyways, we found ourselves going from stand to stand all over DFW looking for the best snowcones. The ice had to "have the right consistency". This small stand is typically found outside Ol' South Pancake House and it's usually run by one or two guys. They have plenty of flavor options and the right ice consistency (according to my better half). So we're rocking four stars for these guys.

I've been coming to this bingsu spot for about a year now and it's hands down my favorite dessert…read more I like it way more than ice cream and once you're converted there's no going back. The bingsu is consistently light refreshing and perfectly balanced. The cashiers are always kind and helpful which makes the experience even better, and the environment is clean and welcoming every time I visit. This place has become a staple for me. He had been after me for some time to try what he called a true delight, which is Bingsu. He would not tell me much more about it, because he did not want to spoil the surprise. So one day on our lunch break recently we made our way over to Snow city Café. This place had me when I was in the parking lot and I read their sign that said "Shaved Ice". But when I went in, it was So Much more than shaved ice as I have always known it. You see, this is Bingsu, a treat I am now hooked on after just one try! Bingsu, I learned, is a Korean dessert, made with ice from frozen milk that is shaved, and then topped with fruit. OMG, where have you been all my life?!?! The service here was great. You see I thought I was in for more of a snow cone experience and I became a little overwhelmed when it was not exactly what I had in mind. I almost left, but then the very nice worker explained to me how to decide what I wanted, and my experience changed completely! I opted for the Strawberry and Mango Bingsu. I ordered a small, and I am thankful I did because it was HUGE! This place is great, I will definitely be back and bring some family members with me when I return!
