Came to Navy Pier to ride the Ferris wheel. Since they shut it down for a while due to the strong winds, we decided to walk around the inside part. We saw couple of girls in the garden drinking these boba drinks. Asked where they got it and they told us to go to the food court on the bottom floor. We came over and there was a long line with a huge menu of goodies. I ordered Taro bubble tea and my husband got Coconut bubble tea. As the guy was making it, the lady that owns it, came to help him as the crowd got bigger. Unfortunately, she added more syrup in my drink after he had already put the syrup. When I told her that my drink had double the sweetness in it, she was very receptive and made me a new drink. Accidents happen but I'm glad that she didn't have any issues making me a new drink. We stopped here while visiting the Navy Pier since I saw they had boba. I ordered the passionfruit tea with boba and my sister ordered the mango shaved ice. The shaved ice was pretty good. Tasty but not too sweet. The boba however, was disappointing. They prepare the items in front of you, so I saw them pour some type of kool-aid looking powder into the blender. I then realized all their teas are artificial flavoring and so they taste very sweet and not like the actual tea at all. I even tasted some of the powder as I drank it- it was a bit granulated. I got mint chocolate chip ice cream but was not able to pick macaron colors/flavors I wanted (I'm not sure if those carry any flavor or if it's just the inside). I ordered a Blueberry Cheesecake Macaron Ice Cream Sandwich ($7). The ice cream was really good, with big chunks of cheesecake. The macaron shell was perhaps a bit under or too chewy in my opinion-mostly chew with no initial crack. The problem is in the construction. If you look at all their social media photos, it's clearly a sliced/shaped slab of ice cream. That wasn't the case- it was a rounded scoop. A rounded scoop + two flat, fragile cookies= a mess. The cookies broke apart because the moment you bite into it, the cookie bends around the curve. Delicious? Yes. Happy-go-lucky food for walking around Navy Pier? Not at all. It's good for an instagram photo, and it even tastes pretty good. They serve shaved snow, macarons ice cream sandwiches, and bubble tea. I must say that they do have decent selection of macaron flavors though. Although I was quite tempted to order the macaron ice cream sandwich, I ended up ordering the mango shave ice. It came with mango jelly and colorful mochi pieces. The texture of the snow was light and creamy but the mango flavor tasted SUPER ARTIFICIAL. Since it was a hot day out, it cooled us down but I don't think it was worth the price. Would have been better if they added some fresh fruit. Or at least some more toppings. I've had shave ice/bingsoo plenty of times elsewhere, this place just didn't cut it for me. My friend recommended this place for me and told me that they had good ice cream. Unfortunately I was let down. I went here and ordered a scoop of cookie dough ice cream. Instead I received two scoops of actual cookie dough. No ice cream. I was shocked to say the least. I like to better than a regular ice cream sandwich and a macaron. I love ice cream and macaron cookies, so this was the perfect marriage of the two. My daughter ordered the nitrogen ice cream with mango jellies. That was another delicious treat. Navy Pier was super busy because of the holiday weekend, but this place managed the longer line very well. We did not have to wait long to order and for our order + they got the order correctly. We went out of our way for this place, but I am glad we did because I got to visit Navy Pier, too! Disappointed. I got the green tea macaron and the macaron itself was good, but the green tea ice cream and the presentation was lacking. The green tea ice cream did not taste like green tea - it was bland and had no flavor. Also, the ice cream was scooped into a ball and set in between the macaron, which sounds normal, but it was so difficult to eat. The edges of the macron just hung over the ball of ice cream, so when you pick it up to take a bite, the macron just crumbled. Maybe this was just a singularly okay experience. I stood in a very long line with three kids, all of us carefully considering our choices, only to get to the front of the line and receive one "no" after another. Could I please have the raspberry shaved ice (the only non-dairy item on the menu)? No, I was told, because it is too soft. Could one of the kids have the cereal dragon balls? No, she was told, because they were out of cereal -- she could have cheese balls instead. Could another kid have the tiramisu shaved ice? No, they were out. The third kid was the only one who could order what she'd picked off their menu. (Of course, the third kid was handed her order five minutes later and it was not the item described on the menu, but no one behind the counter was willing to discuss that. FWIW, I think an item advertised as containing nutella should -- I dunno -- contain NUTELLA.) Then, I wanted to pay, but their credit card reader was broken, something they could have announced during the twenty minutes we'd been standing in line. I scrounged up enough cash and paid. As we waited, another customer came to the counter and said the dish he'd received was not what he'd ordered. The woman behind the counter said "well, that's what you get, though," and laughed at him. A manager reached over her and said "We'll make you a new one," and when the customer said "I think an apology would make more sense than her laughing at me," the manager said "we're making you a new one, all right?!" This was expensive stuff, and everything about the customer service experience was negative. However, there was nothing "salted caramel," about it. I would have preferred to eat the ice cream separate from the macaroons. The sprinkles did nothing for it.
