I had my back waxed here before a vacation, and less than a week later, my back is covered in zits and ingrown hairs. I've had my back waxed numerous times before this and never experienced this issue, ever. A few other flags--the person who waxed got it on unintended body parts and my clothes. They also applied a god-awful amount of aloe that I had to wipe off with paper towels when she left the room before putting on my shirt. I'll never be back and do not recommend going here. read more

I cannot say enough about my eyelash extensions. I booked an appointment to see Jessica 2 weeks ago (per a friend's recommendation) and my eyelashes still look amazing! Jess agreed to see me after her regular business hours which meant a lot as I am usually constrained by my own work hours. Jessica reviewed with me the care instructions that accompany eyelash extensions as well as different options such as synthetic vs mink extensions relative to my ability to maintain them. After reviewing my options she brought a yoga bolster to put under my knees as I would be on my back for about 90 minutes. During the application of the lashes she would periodically check in with me to ensure I was comfortable. About every 20 minutes I was offered a glass of water and the opportunity to sit up as lying down for that long with one's eyes closed can be difficult for some. After the application she helped me off the table and accompanied me to the mirror. To my ultimate delight she had achieved the precise look I was going for. My eyelashes looked absolutely stunning; beautifully full and fanned out without the over the top false lash look wanted to avoid. It's been two weeks since my appointment and everytime I look in the mirror I am taken aback. The adhesive they use is no joke. It truly doesn't budge off my natural lash. Of course I will be returning to get them filled every 4 weeks and will be booking with Jessica from here on out! Omg has this place ever gone down hill. That was the second worst waxing experience I've ever had. The shared bathrooms are disgusting and clogged up, I didn't realize people still used strip wax. The rooms were a complete mess and still dirty from a previous clients appointment. It wasn't even a thorough job, there were still straggler hairs remaining. I'm baffled. I use to go here regularly when they were located in Kentfield. I usually pay my girl $45 in the city and she does a fantastic job. Not only is it more expensive, but it's a half the quality. Mixed review: Clean facilities, which are a MUST when you are going to get your sensitive bits all waxed. They never re-used (double dipped) the wooden spatulas (that scary practice I've seen others do elsewhere). Once I got into the room, service was fast (another Must when you're getting sensitive spots waxed!) The down side: My first time there I walked in and there was no one there to greet me. "Ok, I'll sit and read a mag for a few," but I really had to use the Lue so I walked into a room with a slightly open door and was MORTIFIED to see a woman spread eagle on the table and her waxer standing over her! EEEK! I was looking for the bathroom! I (of course) quickly shut the door and ran the other direction SO apologetic! But why wasn't there a clear sign for the restroom? -or some one there to greet me, check me in, and answer an important question, like the bathroom is the MIDDLE door?! Then once I went in for my treatment, the waxer treated my awful, like she was mad at me for walking in on her! Hello, why was the door ajar? pffffft! I have mixed feelings about this place. The Brazilian waxing is good - fast and as painless as it can be. The eyebrow shaping/waxing is also very good. Also, the place is fairly clean - I have seen some debris on the floor in the waxing rooms (small bits of paper and such). My issue with this place is the occasional lack of a receptionist/greeter and room privacy. The few times that I got a Brazilian at Smooth Operations, I was instructed to disrobe for the treatment and wait in one of the treatment rooms. No towel or robe was ever provided, so I would stand half naked next to the table and wait for my aesthetician. I am not ultra modest, but this is a bit awkward. Anyhow, once my aesthetician opened the door (widely), I would quickly tuck myself next to the table to avoid being seen by customers at the front desk. The aesthetician does not lock the door and the treatment table is set so that your bits face the door. This is not a really comfortable experience and, given that one reviewer actually walked in on another client's treatment, is causing me to question whether I will return. read more

I happen to of found Smooth Operations by accident. What made me want to go there was because the salon specialized in waxing only.... so being the smart gal that I am I figured she must be good.... Well, again I prove myself right, I am smart!!! Melanie the owner is wonderful. I have very sensitive skin and I have never had an eyebrow wax that didn't result in my skin turning red and burning..... ,well that was until Melanie. I was and am very happy. With summer comes the swim suit weather and the need to pay a little more attention to the areas that don't tend to see the light of day in the winter... ahhh the hated bikini wax. After too many painful experiences, I had almost given up until I convinced myself that it was worth one more try finding a place in my new hometown. My yelp search yielded Smooth Operations with way to many 5 star reviews (too good to be true??!?!?!?). I was not let down- this place deserves every 5 star review it has! Jessica has twice now provided me with a fantastic, relatively pain-free (and that is saying something!) waxing experience that made me wonder why I waited so long to go. The place is clean and the set up clearly focuses on each individual customer. The online appointment convenience is an added bonus. I've been a loyal customer for well over a year now, and I've neglected to review. Anyway, Melanie and Jessica make you feel completely comfortable (almost too comfortable actually, I almost feel weird w/ them touching my *flower*). Before coming to S.O. I would break out as a result of being waxed w/ poor quality wax, in poor quality environments. This problem pretty much disappeared after my first visit with Melanie. Melanie was a pleasant person who worked quickly on my eyelashes. But I just don't think these were placed well on my eyelashes. Had my first "below the belt" wax EVER and it was a relatively painless experience. I went about 10 days before my wedding and honeymoon and was very pleased! I am a big girl and Jessica made me feel very comfortable. There was a little pain but it was definetly manageble - in my opinion feels like having tape stuck to you and ripped off. I decided to go all out and have it all removed, I also had my brows done and it was perfect! I am definetly going back again. PS... Hubby loved the wax as well! :) Since my first wax I have returned several time to this location and let me tell you they use the BEST wax. SUNDAYS ARE GREAT HERE! Have been seen by just about everyone at the company now and have always left totally satisfied. Now that they offer Sunday waxing it's even easier than ever. I'm VERY perplexed by the review that came before me on Yelp about Sunday waxing because I've been twice to the woman who works Sundays, once for an eyebrow wax and just last week for a Brazilian and had an excellent experience both times. (I think the last yelper just had an off day or something.) She is a veteran and total professional at what she does. She is extremely attentive and always asks questions and makes sure I'm comfortable and that she is doing exactly what I want. Let's start with the space itself: like something out of Apartment Therapy - cute, clever, creative, fresh, sleek without being sterile, and BRUTALLY clean. Everything was welcoming, sweet, and aesthetically pleasing without being fussy or precious. Now let's move onto the service: WOW. Now, I'm not going to lie to you and tell you that having hair torn from your nethers by warm wax is ever a walk in the park, but this was by far the most tolerable and pain-minimal Brazilian I've ever had. They use very high-quality wax, which makes all the difference, and Jessica has a very expert touch that really minimizes the owie factor. Plus, it's such an awkward situation and we just chatted away about music and other random things like she was doing the hair on my head. I'll be back for touch-ups as well as brows. Melanie was terrific and I greatly appreciated the "frosting" wax, which made my bikini wax much less painful than other places I've been. Love them! I'm a convert from Benefit Mill Valley, and I'm glad I made the switch! Here are the pros and why it works for me: 1) online scheduling- because not all of us work 9 to 5. Sometimes I get home at one in the morning and realize I need a brow wax the next day-bam! Instant appointment. 2) pretty painless as waxes go. Also, they do a really good job of distracting you from the fact you're half-naked and completely vulnerable. 3) no wait- ever! I show up five minutes early expecting to wait 15 and they are already ready for me. 4) No pressure. They wax, you pay, you go. None of that pressure to buy make-up, sign up for extras, etc. 5) They actually like what they do and want to be there. Some places treat waxing like a chore. Talia is the very very best!!! She was able to correct and improve my old faded tattoos on my browns and eyeliner. It looks better than when I had them originally done by someone else. My tattoos are over 10 years old. They look fabulous. My brows look natural, color is matched perfect to my hair color, they have dimension and depth of color. My eyeliner is perfect and does not look over done. She was even able to correct some broken veins above my lip that no plastic surgeon was able to fix with laser. She is a magician. I have also had her do a series of micro-needling on my face, neck and chest. My skin looks like it did when I was 16, lines are greatly diminished, brown spots faded, redness reduced and textured improved greatly. My dermatologist ask me what I had been doing or using he could not believe the improvement. Talia is the ultimate artist and she cares about her work and about you!!! read more

There is nothing for which I could take away a star. The appointment process is awesome, online. I even did it late the night before and made an appointment for the following morning and Jessica was there. The place is really clean and modern. I love how this place is just for waxing. I always feel like in other places the waxing is like a side benefit and the waxers are all really something else who also do waxing. This is just what Jessica does and she is great. I woke up one morning and said, I'm getting a brazilian wax today. I've been wanting to do it but never had the time. I recently moved to San Rafael for school. I went on yelp and searched "spa" rather than wax. This place had amazing reviews. All 5 stars for Melanie and Jessica. I went on Monday. Melanie, the owner doesn't work on Mondays so I had Jessica. I called in the morning and she was able to set appointment that same day in the afternoon. She's super nice on the phone and in person as well. The place is nice, clean, and air conditioned. This was my first time getting waxed down there so i was a little nervous. She was very professional and comforting. The wax they use is suppose to be really good quality thats why it didnt hurt so much. I thought it was going to hurt like hell but it was actually ok. She did say people with thicker or more hair down there it tends to be a lot worse. I didnt have a lot of hair to begin with. Theres 3 kinds of brazilians: all off, strip, or triangle. I just went for all off. it feels so weird! but clean and smooth :) I would definately recommend Jessica. I am looking foward to seeing her next month for maintenance! read more

Absolutely love Sonia! Wish she was closer to Sonoma county so it was easier for me to see her all the time. First time I went all I could think of was the horrific pain that I was about to experience. The truth is, there is no way around the fact it is going to hurt...but not as nearly as I was imagining. The best part is that Sonia is lightning fast...honestly I couldn't even believe it! Plus she is funny and really keeps your mind off what is going on making it almost an enjoyable time. Note I said ...almost..cause come on..who actually would go get all that ripped off you with hot wax....unless it was a necessity! So bottom line...I wouldn't go anywhere else and neither should you.
