There is no such thing as bad pizza, but there is such thing as average pizza. With 4.5 Star average on Yelp, Big Oven Pizza was something I was excited to try...Maybe I was here on a bad day? New York Style Pepperoni Slice...the sauce didn't have much zest or kick to it, crust was so so, and there was only pepperoni on one side of the slice... Detroit Style Big Boy Slice...normally I love Detroit style pizza, with the crispy cheesy edge and fluffy dough, but this was lukewarm, didn't not have cheesy crispy edges texture I was hoping for, sauce and dough were again just okay. Again, its not bad pizza at all, its just average. I'll give it another try when I'm in the area.

So my favorite pizza food truck has a retail location. I follow them on Instagram and have seen that that they started doing my new favorite style of pizza, Detroit style. Well today, I was randomly free and thought what not. I went to place an order in line from their Google page and got a time estimate of 35-40 minutes, which I really wasn't up for. I decided to call and they said 15-20, which worked because that was just driving time. I asked the person I was talking to if the small salad was enough for 2 people. He said not really, but I still went with it. I can tell you that he was correct. If someone is really wanting a salad, it won't be enough. If it's just a couple bites if not pizza, then it's fine. I ordered a Detroit Holy Pepperoni. If your from Detroit, you're probably saying it's only Detroit style if it's made with Wisconsin block cheese, well it is. It probably took me 10 minutes to drive there and the pizza was ready a couple minutes later. While waiting I saw they had pizza by the slice and those caught my eye, so I added 2 slices of the Sweetie Pie to my order. I was really surprised with how spacious the retail location was. Lol of interior seating available if you're not just trying to do take out. They even have games available. A lot of pizza places just try to keep a minimal place store front and I appreciate that they didnt. With great service, helpful staff and great pizza... I am very glad this place has a retail location. For me I look at pizza pictures and I can tell a lot if I'm even remotely interested. So look at the NY style Sweetie Pie and the Detroit style and judge for yourself. I will say, Detroit style looks like Chicago Deep Dish but it's not as heavy as that style.

Ordered on a whim, and was not disappointed! Our Detroit style margherita pizza came to the door and weighed roughly as much as a newborn baby. My husband and I eat took a "slice" and honestly it was difficult to finish over the size of it! The sauce was tangy, the crust springy and crunchy on the bottom. LOTS OF CHEESE! We will order again, for sure.

Honestly 7/11 has a much much better slice when compared to this abomination. Great parking, very clean, not one but two Tvs. No sound. One tv is a Sony the other is Samsung. 55 inches. Napkins are next to the soda machine.

Wanted to try some where new and close by my house. So far I've only tried a slice of cheese but it was crunchy and flavorful. Price was about $5. There's a pizza and beer special for $7.99 They don't just offer NY style, they also have Detroit and Neapolitan. There's a self service kiosk and ordering online available. The guy working alone was nice. We will come back soon.

Ordered a neapolitan mushroom pizza online. They do a lot of take out so I got there and still had to wait about 20 minutes for my pizza. Only one guy managing the whole place. But, the text message time estimate was accurate. When I ordered, the estimated time was 40 min. Pizza smelled great when I got it. Looked good too, but the flavor was just OK. Mushrooms were canned which I didn't necessarily mind but there was just a lack of flavor. The onions weren't caramelized enough and were a bit flavorless. The dough had good texture and a little sourdough flavor but not as much as other restaurants that sell neapolitan pizzas.

The spicy Pepperoni is fire! New York style pizza is our fav! We really enjoyed the pizza. Lucas was so nice and helpful. Thank you. P.S I love that you can choose between New York style or Detroit. So cool!

Wow! Things are getting better and better over at Big Oven Pizza! Why, you ask? They now have their brick and mortar location open for business in Claremont where Mom & Dom's Pizza used to be located. Not only have they open their business here, they have expanded the menu to include New York Style Pizza, Detroit Style Pizza, salads, and of course, what put them on the map with their pizza truck, their Neapolitan Style pizza. I tried a couple of slice or their New York Style pizza. You can get 2 slice and drink for $10 and some change. I had the Big Boy, which came with two types of quality pepperoni, fennel sausage, a house sauce and fresh milk mozzarella cheese, and the BBQ Chicken with a light and tasty BBQ sauce, thinly sliced red onions, grilled chicken, and fresh mozzarella sauce. Both slices were delicious, but what they both had in common was that fantastic thin crisp New York crust. Its texture and flavor were quite good. The service was very welcoming, and they offer a good amount of inside seating. They offer beer and wine, which is a huge crust. Check them out! The parking lot is available.

Store is clean, unfortunately the food is not good. They don't have any veggie pizza or supreme options. No vegan options. Crust is like cardboard and dry They hardly use any toppings and minimal sauce. I like to support local businesses but this place was disappointing. Was hoping it would be like Bronx Pizza in Hillcrest off Washington, it definitely is not.

My boyfriend wanted to order pickup from this place because he's curious to know if their pizza is as delicious as the pizza place that use to be here at this location (Mom & Dom's). We ordered the Detroit style pizza with onion, pepperoni & cheese, and their New York style Wise Guy add jalapeno. Both were tasty and the service time was on point. They said pick up in 25 mins and sure enough it was ready when we got there. They have a pretty good selection of pizza so we'll definitely be ordering from here again to try the other ones.

I heard they're going to start serving beer and wine soon as well! *Best 1st-timer options*: The Keeper (if you like it spicy) or the L.G.B.T. My favorite hot sandwiches are the Cali Cubano, B3, and The Keeper, while my favorite cold sandwiches are the Avocado Highway, L.G.B.T. (lettuce, gouda, bacon, tomato), and Caprese. My favorite salads are the Grapevine and Duck Cranberry. For sides I recommend the potato salad and tomato basil bisque. The aioli they use is to die for -- can't hurt to get a side of it with any sandwich! The restaurant is situated on the corner of Park Blvd. and Polk Ave. (more generally, it's on the strip of Park Blvd. between University Ave. and El Cajon Blvd.). There is usually a good amount of parking on Park Blvd. and Polk Ave., which is nice. The space has a simple-yet-tasteful modern design and interior, is always clean, with friendly and helpful staff. Great for lunch hour or a weekend date. Update: Came back today with my friend and we ordered the B3 and the Turkey & Cheddar Mousse sandwiches, plus sides of potato salad and cucumber salad, and a double chocolate cookie with pistachio and sea salt. Everything was really good, but the Turkey & Cheddar Mousse sandwich was the star of the show. The cookie was great too. We both agreed the potato salad could use some salt, but besides that it was a solid meal all around.

On the first visit, Zack provided exceptional care and attention while helping navigate food allergies. Zack took the time to carefully check ingredients, double-check preparations, and personally come back out to verify everything to ensure safety. That level of care made the experience feel genuinely welcoming and stress-free. The chicken sandwich was fresh, satisfying, and thoughtfully balanced. Juicy chicken, ripe tomatoes, creamy avocado, and a bright splash of oil and vinegar came together beautifully on Big Front Door's roll, which had a great texture and held everything together well. The flavors were clean and vibrant. A little extra salt would have pushed it over the top for a salt-lover, but that came down to personal preference rather than any shortcoming. A dining companion ordered the avocado sandwich and could not stop raving about it, praising both the flavor and the freshness. The outdoor seating area deserves special mention. The shaded space was perfect as I do have sun allergies, especially for anyone who prefers relief from direct sun. The care taken in food preparation added an extra layer of comfort and trust. The second visit somehow raised the bar even higher. Micah went above and beyond to accommodate physical ability needs with patience, attentiveness, and genuine kindness. That effort did not go unnoticed and made the experience feel deeply respectful and inclusive. The roasted chicken sandwich ordered on the second visit was phenomenal. The roasted chicken was tender, savory, and full of depth, elevating the sandwich even further. Adding a bit of extra salt brought all the ingredients into perfect harmony, making every bite more satisfying than the last. This sandwich has officially earned a spot as a new favorite sandwich. Big Front Door was amazing not just for delicious, thoughtfully prepared food, but for the people who work there. Zack and Micah created an environment where care, kindness, and respect were clearly prioritized. No moment felt rushed, dismissive, or uncomfortable. At no point did anyone make the experience feel like a burden or inconvenience. A sincere thank-you also goes to the team members who prepared the food. Even without knowing names, the care taken to keep guests safer while serving delicious nourishment was evident and deeply appreciated. Big Front Door comes highly recommended for the flavorful sandwiches, the shaded outdoor space, the welcoming atmosphere, outstanding customer service, and the genuine kindness shown at every action.

There were just too many misses to ignore. There were three of us dining, and it took quite awhile for the food to come out. Eventually the plates arrived, and I ordered the chicken and waffles -- one of their signature brunch dishes. I cut into the chicken and immediately realized it was raw. Not "a little pink." Raw. I showed the server, and to her credit, she quickly took it back to the kitchen. At that point, my two table mates finished their meals while I still sat there waiting with no food. Eventually I had to flag down the manager myself to figure out what was going on. His response? "Well done... let me go get it." Well done? This isn't a steak. Chicken is either cooked or it's raw. There's no such thing as chicken tartare. That response alone was honestly alarming. Then he comes back out with completely different chicken -- chicken cutlets instead of the original bone-in fried chicken. I asked, "What's this?" and he explained that because I said I wanted it "well done," they prepared it differently in a way they thought I would like. I was genuinely blown away by that explanation. So the solution to undercooked bone-in fried chicken is... to stop serving bone-in chicken altogether? We're talking about a restaurant that serves this as a featured brunch item. Frying bone-in chicken correctly shouldn't be a mystery. At that point I was frustrated, still hungry, and honestly ready to leave, so I asked him to adjust the bill. His solution was to only remove the two chicken plates I didn't eat. That was his idea -- not mine. I actually had to go back and explain to him that this entire experience had been mishandled from beginning to end. I told him directly: "Jessie, this wasn't cool at all." There's no such thing as "well done" chicken. That should have been caught immediately. The correct response should have been acknowledging the mistake, correcting the kitchen, and making sure the dish was properly remade -- not improvising an entirely different version of the meal. Eventually he adjusted the entire bill, which I appreciated, but I shouldn't have had to push for basic hospitality after sitting through all of that. I also found it surprising that nobody ever offered an alternative dish, appetizer, or anything at all while I sat there hungry waiting for a resolution. Again, this review is disappointing for me because I've genuinely enjoyed this place before. But raw chicken combined with the way the situation was handled simply can't be overlooked.

It was perfect since we had so many kids in our party. All the food was delicious -- from their baked beans, corn bread, onion rings, and to their barbecue selection. We ordered the 12 party meal plus some appetizers for the kids such as the Mac & cheese and chicken tenders. Everyone was commenting on how good everything was. Honestly, this has become one of our favorite barbecue spots! Their bbq sauce is also really good, it had the right amount of sweetness and slight tang without being too thick. Would definitely recommend to anyone who just wants to watch the game by themselves or bring a large party. Thank you Del's for making it a memorable night!
