Fun pizza restaurant located in Old Town with a nice outdoor patio and restrooms near by. Dogs are welcome. Service was excellent and pizza was fine.

Cheesy Bread
Surfn G.

I ordered a glass of wine and some cheesy bread while I waited forthe coaster. The bread was soft, made in house and had a right amount of bounce. The cheese was present but not overly gooey. The sauce was thick and had some depth in the flavor. And Lou was very friendly and welcoming. This experience let me to want to come back when I'm in the area and try the rest of the menu. *Review is for cheesy bread and service

Pepperoni pizza

I'm from NY. The pizza capital. This was some absolutely amazing pizza! I would def go back. I tried a basic pepperoni personal pizza. Absolutely fantastic! And don't let it fool you. I thought yall really only put 4 pepperoni slices on my personal pizza. Then I took a bit and realized it was under the cheese! The server was very attentive and friendly. The courtyard was beautiful. Highly recommend.

I will start off by saying I had a slice from leftovers my wife brought home before coming here. It was very good, good enough for me to remember. Important note: Most of my recent reviews are short and sweet yet this place deserves more attention. Please read on... On our way to Bronx Pizza, one of my revolving top three pizza joints, (Pizzeria Luigi and Long Island Mikes to round out the list and give you reference) my wife and I wanted something different, and she reminded me of "the slice". So, we changed directions and headed to Old Town. First off: This is not a "pizza joint"! No, this is a Ristorante. Simply, an Italian Restaurant with one of the best pizza's I have ever had the pleasure to eat. Located in Old Town, it is unassuming and when venturing in you are welcomed by the charm and simplicity of a comfortable place you seem to have been to before. Greeted by the owner, again, non-assuming and welcoming, I even asked for a different table and was joyfully led to my table of choice. We got the Bruschetta to start, and it was, well, the first word that came to mind while biting into the warm bread and impeccable presentation was FRESH! Just a bright celebration of dressing, tomato medley, etc. ... Our table went quiet for a few moments as we both just took in the flavors. We had also ordered the Kitchen Pizza (no jalapenos, just a preference for me). I was a bit reserved as "the slice" was peperoni so this was jumping all in. I was game and was not disappointed. It is a crazy mixture of toppings that just seem to contradict each other, yet just like the melting pot that America is, the flavors and contrasts all worked and nothing overwhelmed. An Absolute masterpiece to savor. I wish we had brought our adult kids as this would have allowed me to order family style and get lasagna, marsala, meatballs and such, sharing plates as I have absolutely no doubt that the rest of the menu is outstanding. But no need to wonder as we will be back this weekend or next to explore this menu further. Finally, you have an owner who genuinely gives a damn about your opinion, preferences and overall experience. Unfortunately, this is something that I seem not to see much elsewhere. Fichissimo, Pizza Bella!!

Though it was valentine's day, staff was friendly and prompt to attend our table. Very clean and cozy establishment. The food was amazing, I especially loved the garlic cheese bread! Food came out very fast considering it was a holiday and everyone was out with their families. Lastly, I enjoyed how attentive our waitress was, we had all of our questions about the menu answered. Bang for your buck!

Dried. Overcooked. Not enough anything except oven heat.

Hit or miss. How did you make a delicious savory pizza with veggie toppings and succulent crust for us last weekend. Then... Make a custom pizza today which was so overcooked. Burnt. Crust. Gross. Where is the quality control? Pride in product? I don't trust your shop.

The pizza was amazing and the pastas were too, my daughter really enjoyed the spaghetti I recommend this place 100% also the service was 10/10

Receipt (with incorrect price for pizza)
Ethan S.

The food was okay at best, and the service was reasonable. I would argue that their portion sizes are comparable to that of cheesecake factory's (if you know their portions), but wouldn't come here again for the price. I personally don't think that the location and feeling I had in this restaurant was ideal, let alone on par with the price, but to each their own. There was a decent dinner crowd at the time of eating which showed me that at least they aren't some random Italian place down the block. One complaint I had which I didn't want to call someone down for as it wasn't a big of a deal, were the inconsistencies with the prices. On the menu, a Margherita pizza was $28.95 but was charged $29.95 on the receipt. Was it a big deal? No, but this should be something to take note of if you're visiting.

Needed a place to eat before catching a show at the cygnet theatre. Even though a majority of the food options in Old Town were mexican, we decided on italian for some code phatting at Pizza Bella. They were able to accommodate our big group and the service was great. We ordered: large half works/sigma-chi pizza large seafood pizza Garlic pasta with shrimp Chicken alfredo Bruschetta Everything was delicious and just the right amount of food for our group of 7. I wish they would have used real crab meat rather than the imitation crab meat in the seafood pizza but it was still good. There is free parking in the back as well. Forgot to take pictures of the food. Oops

Best Alfredo I've ever had OMG! Everything here is top notch. Came on a rainy day and parked right on the street at the 2 hour parking. Great atmosphere and friendly service.

On top of that they allowed me to take a video of them mixing my noodles and chicken in the cheese wheel itself which I thought was a nice touch. Restaurants and bars filled to the brim. Lack of street parking availability. With that being said, after circling around for a while, I found a free parking spot on the street five minutes away by foot. Ambiance (4/5): While Bencotto has a nice interior, I went with some al fresco dining on their front patio. There are 20 or so seats available right off the street, so it's not a large patio by any means, but it's nice. The weather was a little chilly by San Diego standards, so they had some heaters out there. It always reminds me of Europe when I'm dining al fresco. Service (3/5): A little slow at times, but overall, pretty good. My waiter was friendly, he just could have stopped by a little quicker. Still solid though. Drinks (4/5): They have a nice selection of wine. I ended up rolling with an Italian beer I had never had before instead. It was a lager and they served it with a chilled glass which is always a nice touch. Food (4/5): The reason I came delivered. Their most popular entree is pasta cooked in a cheese wheel. The pasta is in a creamy truffle sauce with mushrooms. No protein but you can add some for an additional charge. I added grilled chicken. What's awesome about this dish is that they cook it for you inside by the hostess stand. So you can go there and see it happening. My server didn't give me a heads-up (shame on him) but luckily, someone at a table close to me did after me, so I joined to see their food being prepared. I also ordered the gnocco frito which is puffy fried bread. You get four pieces and I had never had this type of Italian bread. Not amazing, but it complemented the pasta well. All of their pasta is made in house and you can taste the difference. The cheese wheel pasta was absolutely delicious. I was pumped to cross this bucket list item off my list.

One thing we learned: if you decide to make a reservation here, especially on a weekend night, arrive early to accommodate the time it takes to find parking. The restaurant does not have its own parking lot, it's street parking-only and space is tough to come by. We circled around for at least 15 minutes before securing a spot and wound up a little over 20 minutes late for our reservation. Thankfully, we still had a table set up and waiting for us. It was very busy when we walked in, it appeared as though the restaurant was near-capacity. The restaurant has a nice, rustic charm to it, but I'll admit some of the charm is taken away by the crowd of noisy people. The restaurant space is small with as many tables and chairs that can possibly fit, which inevitably means tables are very close to one another. It would help if the restaurant acquired a much larger space, or if it got rid of maybe 30% of the tables/chairs so that seating could be more spaced-out. Service was initially slow, but understandable considering the completely packed venue. Our servers were incredibly friendly and provided exceptional service. They were patient and informative in answering our questions (particularly about the "cheese wheel"). We ordered the house specialty bread with 3 different spreads as an appetizer, the lamb shank was my date's entree choice while I ordered the pappardelle pasta with short rib. The bread was truly excellent, we both devoured it. My dish was also excellent, the short rib was very rich and flavorful and the pasta was cooked well. I tasted my date's lamb dish, which I felt was bland compared to mine and I wasn't crazy about it. My date seemed to enjoy it, though. We were too full to order any dessert, so I can't speak for their desserts. The food I did try was mostly amazing. We will likely be back, although we might try coming on a Monday or Tuesday night to avoid the crowds and have an easier time with parking.

We were greeted with warm smiles from every employee, asked which open table we preferred, and the staff did everything they could to make us feel like weekly regulars. I loved seeing the hugs they gave their regulars, and I completely understand why people keep coming back week after week. My definition of a great restaurant is simple: great service -- attentive, anticipates needs, and does everything possible to take care of guests -- plus solid food and drinks. This place was a home run, and we will definitely be back when we are in town. We started with the artichoke, and everyone loved it, even our kids. We ordered the chicken parm 10/10, bolognese 10/10, spaghetti with meatballs 9/10, and Pappardelle Al Brasato 7/10. With the brasato, there were a few questionable pieces of meat/fat, but overall it was still a solid dish. The highlight of the meal was the tiramisu. Damn -- it was light, airy, and full of flavor.
