The food is pretty good albeit pricey given the portion sizes. Highlights were the chicken wings, sea trout and fried chicken. The curries were also tasty but I found them slightly salty. They could up the spice levels too. Everything was flavoursome but could have used more heat. A few minor tweaks could make the dining experience better. The tables are narrow which makes for a crowded dining experience when you're sharing dishes and the mostly stool seating is uncomfortable. The beer comes in cold glasses (great!) but the condensation it leaves on the tables means a watery mess as they don't have coasters. This restaurant had some of the best Thai food I've had in my life (and I'm from New York and have been to Thailand). The portions are decently sized but I highly recommend going with a group and trying a little bit of everything. Regrettably, they don't have desserts, but our waitress was so sweet and put a candle in a shot glass of pina colada for our birthday girl. She gave us great service and recommendations all night. When a dinner is so phenomenal you forget to take any pictures! Wow this meal was amazing. Went in a group of four which I felt like was just right to be able to try as much of the menu as we wanted. Felt like we were close to trying almost the whole menu :D. Love the sharing family style small plates, though they were actually bigger than I was expecting! Fair warning for those who can't handle spicy food - they do turn up the heat in this kitchen! It gets properly Thai food spicy with very little warning. I LOVED this though. Standouts... there was a Tom Yum noodles soup that was such a punch of deep, salty, spicy, sour, savory flavor. Also really loved a bright, vinegary, crunchy daikon radish dish a lot. We went here on a Tuesday night for dinner at about 9:30pm and got sat right away. To start off, our server was very inviting and polite! I also found the ambiance of the restaurant to be very trendy and comfortable. I ordered the fried egg rice noodles + lardo as well as a glass of red wine. I definitely appreciate the honesty of our server and the recommendations he provided. I do think that it's best to get multiple entrees for the table and share them, as I found the dishes to be a good size for shareables. The only reason I give this place 4 stars instead of 5 is because I wish the menu offered a bit more, and my friends found the food to be pretty spicy and the meats to have a tough texture, although the server did warn that many people find the dishes to be spicy. Came here a few months ago with the wife and while I forgot to take pictures, I do remember that this place has some of the best wings I've had in London. Our server was accommodating as we had one vegan person in our group. She was also very fast, attentive in taking our order, and giving recommendations. We ordered: 1. I also got the plum salad - very very spicy, wasn't expecting that. The short rib is also delicious, so tender and the flavors are like nothing you've tasted before; it's also on the spicier side. Service was great and friendly. The place is pretty loud and lively, great vibes. It was difficult to keep ordering them as well. And then our food completely came out dish by dish, without any warning it would be served that way. I'm all for times that they make it more family style, and it come out as ready, but that's not what was presented to us, so some folks ate and completely outpaced others and it just was a poor experience. We would have planned differently, made things much more a shared experience, but that wasn't the case. So definitely level set with guests that things are going to come out as they are ready and that you may want to ensure that there are a healthy number of dishes folks can split. First off, the chili fish sauce wings were amazing. It was flavorful, crispy, and juicy. They only come 3 to a plate so you may have to fight for the last piece. That's how good they are. The papaya salad was good but not amazing. It was more carrots than anything. The lardo fried rice was very delicious. Add that to the bone marrow massaman and wow, pure gluttony. The portions are not huge here but the richness of the dishes will get you feeling full. Let's talk service. The place is popular and gets busy quickly. Chances are you'll sit at a communal table or bar. The utensils are cheap yes, but have you been to Thailand? There's spoons in the containers, you just have to dig for them. Very lucky to have found this place as we originally were going to a nearby restaurant but it was closed. The server recommended a few dishes (it is sharing style modern Thai cuisine) and I thought he did a good job offering honest recommendations and did not try to get us to order too much (which is not very difficult with me). Everything was packed with flavor, some great contrasts and nice sized servings. The real standout for me was the Massaman short rib, which was incredible, both in terms of tender meat and great flavor. Another great dish was the chicken wings, so unlike wings almost anywhere also with interesting and complex flavors. The citrus salad with pork was also very interesting ad a nice contrast to the other dishes. I found the duck a little underwhelming but primarily because everything else was so great. If you're looking for a different Thai experience then you will enjoy this refreshing experience. A hipster bar atmosphere which blends in nicely in Shoreditch. The menu is small without the usual suspects like Pad Thai or Pad Siew. They have two types of chicken which are tasty. The starter chili chicken wings are fried with three large pieces enough for one person as a main or to share. The other is a grilled chicken, a bit smaller but tasty with chili sauce on the side. The papaya salad had less green papaya and more veggies like carrots and tomatoes with chilies. It was fresh and delicious. The Jerusalem artichokes curry was my least favorite. Good curry flavour but the artichokes did not lend well to the dish. Another thing to note is an order of sticky rice is tiny. Half of what you will normally get. Prices were on the high side with dishes being small. However if you're looking to share then 4 dishes is plenty between two people plus rice. Lastly the cold brew Vietnamese coffee is very weak. More milk than coffee and could not see how condensed milk was used as I was told. I enjoyed the different experience here and their creative take on Thai food. She mentioned to me that she used to come here all the time when she worked in London and it was her favorite restaurant for lunch. I can see why, the food is delicious. I love when a menu is small because it usually means that they are good at what they make. The dishes taste great and there is actually some spice (which I was not expecting considering Europe's spice tolerance at restaurants tends to be low, but this is London). A MUST TRY when in London, this place was easily one of the best meals I had there. It' worth whatever wait you have to endure I promise. My friend and I were lucky and only waited about 30 minutes on a Friday night around 6pm, and that was because we wanted an actual table not bar seat which they did have available even earlier. Be advised the table aren't much larger than the area you'd get at the bar but a little easier for sharing plates. In general it's a very tight space getting into and out of tables, and please believe you will be all up in the next tables business because they're so close so don't come here trying to have a private convo. As for the food the star of the night were the Fish Sauce Chili Wings. I can't stress enough how amazingly flavorful and delicious these were. Nice and crispy and saucy on the outside but juicy chicken on the inside. And the flavor sooo much better than your run of the mill chili wings. We also ordered the stir fried greens which were as yummy as greens can be, and the lamp ribs with pickles (just okay, would skip this next time), and for dessert the coconut plantain lime ice cream which is another must order item! It sounds like a strange mix of things but in reality is just perfection. For drinks I ordered the 20 Great Jazz funks which was forgettable, but for round two I ordered the "Most Things Haven't Worked Out" and it was AMAZING and everything a well crafted cocktail should be, would highly recommend trying. 3.9 Month: May 2019 Day and time: Sunday evening Food: 4 stars We ordered the Tamworth skewers, the steamed oysters, the chilli fish sauce wings, the duck laab, the grilled beef salad, and the massaman curry. We had one skewer and one oyster each, and both were satisfying. The wings were spicier than they were saltier and had a delicate crunch, though it was some work to dig out the meat from the gristle. The laab is notoriously hot, and I was struggling from the first mouthful. Ever the masochist, I struggled on because the ground meat was beautifully cooked. The grilled beef salad was light and refreshing, with a lemongrass marinade. The curry was rich, though light on the brisket. The bone marrow dissolved somewhat, thickening the liquid. We ended with the coconut ice cream, which was supremely creamy and topped with condensed milk and lime. It was indulgent and the perfect finish after the heat of the savory dishes. Setting & Atmosphere: 4 stars We turned up without a reservation, and expected a wait. What a pleasant surprise it was to immediately be seated at the bar. The interior of the restaurant features plenty of dark wood, but the early evening light brightened the place up. It felt pub-like, in the best sense. It was the Sunday night before the late May bank holiday, and the restaurant was lively and relaxed. We ordered six plates of food, and our tight allocation at the bar struggled to accommodate. Drink: 4 stars I was at first disappointed to see just the one whisky cocktail on the menu, and a lighter mix at that. I was content with the draft lager, which became an inspired partner to the spicier dishes. My partner went with a couple of the fruitier cocktails, and drank happily. Service: 3 stars We were pleased with the quick seating, but we found the subsequent service much slower. Empty plates sat in front of us for some time. A drink order was forgotten but later charged for. Had we not another appointment after dinner we would have been more allowing of the delays. But with one eye on the clock, we grew a little frustrated. Value: 4-5 stars The dishes are fantastic value for the portion sizes, and we ate and drank our fill for under a ton. The vibe was good and the food above average, though I have had better Thai many times. The item rarely mentioned is the ridiculous prices. The oft mentioned wings are around 3 pounds for one wing with both parts. Other prices were hit or miss as to whether they made sense. Additionally their card machine was not working well, which seems to happen a bit there, so we paid cash. Be prepared. Lastly, service was okay though our waiter pushed the over priced wings - glad we ignored him. - and put us in for the 3x priced lard fried rice versus the sticky rice we ordered. I have been to the smoking goat twice. On both occasions I enjoyed the food, however despite the fact that the food was good on both occasions, the taste was very different. The Lardo rice: ( A beautiful combination of ingredients to reflect Thai street food) The first time I visited, the rice was lovely with a twist of pork scratchings. This may be an unusual concept to wrap your head around but it definitely works. If you would prefer not to have the prices of starching, then you may ask that it is excluded or simply pick them out of your meal. it is well complimented with the goat shoulder curry, or for a slightly less full on taste, enjoy it on its own. On my second visit to this restaurant , I again order the Lardo rice, this time it did not have the starching and was unfortunately very greasy. The plate was covered in seasoned red oil and it leaves you feeling like you've grown new pimples on your cheeks. A simple comparison of my two visits to the restaurant shows quite a bit of inconsistency with the quality of food that is being offered. If I had been given greasy rice on my first visit, I most certainly would have been giving this review a "poor" rating. If I had been given greasy rice on a first visit with family or friends. I doubt any one of us would have returned a second time. This is the difference between food that is cooked with the intent to uphold high quality standards and food that is sent out on a whim. They came in chili fish sauce which was incredible. Not crazy salty like so many fish sauces but had a good spice to it and really elevated the wings. These are a must-try. I also had one of the tamworth skewers and have to say it was probably the only thing I would not be willing to try again. Even for just 1.60, it was rather bland. I got the northen laab lamb which was super spicy. I really like spicy foods and it was pushing it for me. But soooo good that I was more than happy to deal with the heavy spice.
