JR plate

Decent bbq in Meridian. Food: 4/5. We got the J.R. plate with ribs, pulled pork, and mixed brisket with a side of beans and Mac and cheese. I burned my mouth on the beans they were so hot and they tasted a little bland in my opinion (the burnt mouth may have made an impact). The mac and cheese was pretty good and probably my favorite part of the meal. The meats were all ok but nothing special. The bbq sauce is just ok as well. Service: 3/5. We stood in line for a while before anyone came to the counter to take our order. I felt we got our food pretty fast! Atmosphere: 3/5. Fairly generic strip mall bbq restaurant. Parking can be hard to find and the parking lot was packed although not many people in the restaurant itself. Kid friendly: 4/5. They have a couple highchairs which is nice and good food for kids. My kids loved the mac and cheese and bread.

Brisket, jalapeño sausage...after I ate some I remembered to take a picture lol

Blown away. I've been to Terry Blacks, Stubbs, and others from KC to California. Smokin Iron is my hands down favorite for smoke, flavor, price, friendliness, and satisfaction. I tell everyone who loves great BBQ to come here and thank me later. The brisket and the jalapeño cheese sausage are my two favorites. See you here!

Barbecue tray!

Great little gem of a barbecue joint. Fun staff great smells great food! Texas style barbecue at its best.

I thought it was high priced but damn

Had heard about this place at meridian speedway. Meat was good but potato salad had raw potatoes and bbq baked beans tasted like chili. Zero "bbq". Both were nasty!! And smallest portion of potato salad. Board says $5 extra for brisket. But they charged $5 more for burnt ends. Charged be $3 for a water cup and $.90 for two tiny bbq sauce cups. Nowhere worth even half the price

We went about 1PM so it wasn't real crowded, I can see how it could get crowded tho, as it isn't a real big place. Not sure where they do the smoking, as I didn't smell it outside. The aroma hit me when I walked in though. The main squeeze and I split the Angus Brisket sandwich with the mix of lean and moist meat. We added tater salad and beans, plus a drink. It all came to about $32 with a tip. That seems high, but is probably comparable to other BBQ joints. The sandwich was good with plenty of meat. Don't mind the bun in the pic, I held it down to cut it in half. I didn't think about asking them to cut it in the kitchen, it would have been better. We opted for the BBQ sauce on the side since I don't use very much. There were 3 pickles in the tray, could have used a few more. The onion slices could have been thinner, we really couldn't put them on the sandwich. The BBQ baked beans are excellent, not real sweet with a nice touch of heat from what I guess is jalapeno. Tater salad was good as well, firm pieces and little salt. I had to tell them that the soda was flat. They quickly changed the CO2 bottle to fix that right up, very good service. Very good, but a few more pickle slices and thinner onion slices would have been 5 stars.

I heard about this spot through a family friend and had to check it out! It's a simple establshment without much decour but a MEAT word on the wall. It is clean and can fit a group comfortably but if you're lookin for that bbq restaurant feel, it's def lacking. Their service from when I walked in till I left was immaculate. At first glance, the food prices shocked me a bit, $17.99 for a brisket sandwich without any sides or drink? $2.99 to add a side? $2.99 to add a drink? I was literally in downtown Nashville three weeks ago and had an epic brisket sandwich with a side at Martin's BBQ for $15.29. So with that, I'm like well, maybe their brisket is really that amazing?! I also got their Banana Pudding Cheesecake for $6.99. So my total cost was around $34 after tax for 1 person. Now if you're gonna claim Smokin in your name, it had better have smoke flavor. And your bbq brisket had better have bark and a good smoke ring. This brisket had neither and zero smoke ring. I was actually shocked lol. I tasted a hint of smoke and I'm not sure if it's liquid smoke or actual smoke at this point. I also only got maybe 4-5oz of meat on the sandwich. With that said, it was cooked well and had a good bounce. The mac and cheese I had was ok but something I could easily make at home. Now, what did save them from a 2 star was they did make an awesome dessert! The Banana Pudding Cheesecake is worth coming back here for every single time. I may try other things in the future, but for now, unless their pricing comes down or their food becomes better, the value is not there.

Food was horrible, dry, kid portions. Look at the picture. Even the Mac, was a joke . No flavor, undercooked.

I've had takeout from here on many occasions and it's always good. Chose the pulled pork sandwich, Carolina style, which was delicious. Soft, good roll. Fresh coleslaw, and lots of pork. We tried a mix of meats, and there was plenty to like. The pulled pork stood out as the best of the bunch--tender, flavorful, and exactly what you hope for from good BBQ. The spicy BBQ sauce was a highlight too: it's got a real kick--hot in a fun, nostalgic way, like a high school pool party where things get a little wild but in the best sense. The tri-tip was decent, though it leaned a bit young and could've benefited from a touch more time or seasoning to really shine. The chicken was cooked nicely--juicy and not overdone--but felt like it needed a little extra smoky pizzazz to stand out. On the plus side, the buns were excellent across the board, soft but sturdy enough to hold everything together without falling apart. Service was top-notch--friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience easy and enjoyable. Overall, a really pleasant lunch spot with some strong offerings and a great atmosphere. I'd say it would absolutely earn a nod of approval from my  St. Louis BBQ grandpa and his crew from Wells-Goodfellow--satisfying, honest barbecue with a few standout bites and a good time to go with it.

The two servers behind the counter are completely discombobulated. And, one of the employees just touched the inside of my sanitized to-go container with their bare hands after being out on the floor, touching dirty dishes, handling the dirty cash register, touching other surfaces. and everything else. The other server seems to be completely lost and staring off of the distance wiping counters while there's orders pending. My order. She really doesn't seem to be able to focus very well and know what to do. For example, there are plates of food sitting on the prep table, ready to go out and she walks over and looks at my ticket and then just stands there and wipes the counter. My to go order would literally take probably 30 seconds to put it into a container, weigh, and hand it to me, but she just won't do it. And, the other patron's food is getting cold. It seems like the guy that's on duty is the brains of the operation and he's doing all the work. I get out to my truck and the burnt ends feel really light in contrast to my brisket order. I ordered a half a pound of burnt ends, and 1/3 of a pound of brisket. Something isn't right. I take the burnt ends back in and show the guy that was at the register when I came in, he agreed something went wrong. It looked like a third of a pound, but I would argue that it wasn't even a third. By the way, this was prepared by the girl working that was daydreaming. He then made it right and handed back my tray, which I was grateful. He was apologetic and he took care of it well. Just to be clear, he did not give me more than half a pound but he made it right. And then went to go pick up a plastic fork, that's usually over in a cup on the counter, but there were none. So I had to get their attention quickly and ask for a fork and they pulled one up from behind the counter, after I was told they were over by the beverage machine. They both seem surprised that there were none up there ready to go. The food as usual was delicious. This is the sad part. The service is all over the map and completely in need of some serious management and restructure. I realize that it's very difficult to get good help these days, but this is a training issue. I can't go back in now knowing that the last 3 to 5 times I've gone in there. I've always had a problem with service. If the food was piping hot when it arrived, I might not be so bothered, but this lack of efficiency causes the food to be delivered cold. That's not my definition of a good experience. If you have a lot of time on your hands, and you don't mind waiting, and you don't mind your food warm instead of hot, then I would say venture out and try this place because the flavor and textures are good. Just set your expectations accordingly. The atmosphere is comfortable and rustic. A little loud because of the openness, no booths, just tables and chairs with 1/2 booth. Lots of self service going on here so be careful before you tip at the register. By the way, I chose not to tip at the time of payment when I walked in because I don't like tipping in advance of receiving the service. The purpose of the gratuity is to compensate your server based on the service they delivered, not will deliver or should deliver. Or in this case didn't deliver. I realize that not tipping on the front end gives the employees a chance to retaliate with poor service because you didn't tip. Oh how the times have changed.
