I had lunch here today with a friend who was bragging about how busy they typically are. We got there at 1:00 and the place was deserted. The guy running the smoker admitted they were quieter than usual, but it gave them time to talk to me about their different sides, what they preferred and what they would suggest. My friend and I had the burnt ends, which looked great but were surprisingly dry. Even my buddy had to admit that he had better ends on previous visits which led us to ponder if the days slowness in clients had meant the burnt ends had been in the smoker longer than anticipated. We were each given a piece of the pork belly to try, and I wish we had tried it before ordering the burnt ends because it was phenomenal and that would have been my main order if only I knew. I did get three ribs as well and they were very tender and flavorful. So although I didn't fInish the burnt ends, I did walk away full and satisfied. I would give this place another shot in the future, but if they are slow I might be a tad concerned about how long the meat had been smoked for. read more

As our journey across the states continue we stopped by Bob's BBQ. It was a fun little stop that had some nice parking. We went inside and met some of the most friendly people here. As this was our first time here we were offered a sample of the pork belly which was amazing, we really should have ordered this but we kinda had our minds made up on what we really wanted. I went for the nachos half size and boy was that amazing. Creating BBQ nachos was a genius idea. My wife had the chicken sandwich minus the bread she said it was so moist, though wished it would have had a little more flavor. My kids really enjoyed there P.B.S. (Pork brisket and sausage) It was pretty much gone by the time we left. Now for the sides, The beans were terrific so much flavor The potato salad had to be my favorite side with a smoky hint about it. I am not a coleslaw fan to begin with myself but everyone in the group did feel the coleslaw fell short of expectations though. To make all things as equal as possible I am getting the three meat combo at each place with pulled pork, brisket and ribs. Sides will generally be Mac N cheese. Bobs doesn't have a combo so I had to make my own. I ordered their 3 meat sampler and added Mac N cheese. Opted to skip the beans because they didn't look like anything special. The Mac N cheese had a good Smoke flavor. Beyond that I wasn't in lie with it. Pulled pork had good bark and a good smoke ring. Flavor was above average. Meat was tender and juicy. I could eat it without sauce, but as always I opted to sample it with all the sauces. The brisket had good flavor, texture and great smoke. It is for sure a stand alone meat (no sauce needed). It goes well with any of the sauces. I didn't try the mustard sauce in it because that's just not right. The ribs were alright. Flavor was good but the texture was off. I'd guess overcooked. They barely meet the standard for stand alone. I ended up saucing them. Both the spicy and the mustard were a good addition There are 4 sauces to choose from Mustard. I'm jot a huge mustard sauce guy, BUT this one is good. Has a tiny bite at the end. And good flavor. It complemented the pulled pork nicely Original. A solid all around sauce that went nicely with beef or pork has a nice tang to it. Sweet. Not over the top sweet. Another good sauce. Spicy. Just the right amount of tang and heat. The heat comes in a little later which I like a lot. Store was very clean and service was fast and friendly. I am torn on how to rate this. 3.5 stars is probably about right. But as I weigh the pros vs cons I think I'm going to go 3 stars. Then I'll come back in a couple of months and see if it's better/worse/unchanged. Smokin Bob's where the most delicious thing on the plate.....is the pickle. The negative. I'm not sure how a person over cooks one side of a rib and under cooks the other but they've mastered the art. Ribs should not be fall off the bone nor should the bone 1/4 the length of the rib. The amount of cartilage one has to remove or chew through is completely unacceptable for the cost. The food is devoid of any discernible smoke flavor, the sauces are underwhelming at best and the "smoked" cheesy corn and mac & cheese are lackluster. The positive The staff is awesome. They are friendly, quick and respectful. The restaurant is clean and inviting. The food looks amazing, nice smoke ring and color this is where it ends. It's basic mass production BBQ. I understand the demand requires this, but at $22/rack I'd expect a little more. It's better than chair BBQ joints like Famous Dave's and Dickie's but marginal at best read more

Really good barbecue. I enjoy the clean look of the place & I like that they cut the meat right in front of you. I've had the PBS (pork, brisket & sausage) sandwich & the Smothered Carolina (pulled pork, slaw, smoked cheddar & jalapeños) sandwich. Both sandwiches were good but messy. The PBS comes with a choice of sausage which I appreciate as well. I've also tried their burnt ends, but the ones I received were the last ones of the day. They had a great flavor but were greasy (I think the grease was due to them sitting in the bottom of the pan). I will have to get there earlier & try them again. Btw we were there a touch before noon so the burnt ends sell quick. I also tried the smoked mac and cheese & smoked potato salad. Both were fine but neither were fantastic. SB's offers fresh and delicious BBQ. They serve until they sell out, which I always think is the hallmark of a great restaurant. One of my favorite items to order is their Jalapeno Sausage. It is not spicy, but the flavor is so delicious! I love this chopped or on a bun - with or without their regular BBQ. My other favorite go to sandwich is their pulled pork. It is fresh, plentiful and flavorful. You cannot go wrong with this classic. There are so many places to enjoy BBQ in Southwest Missouri, but Smokin Bob's does it right. Fresh and tasty. I think it's quite a good deal; I received a massive amount of meat for $10 (the three meat sampler). I visited at 1115 on a Wednesday. They didn't have ribs available. The initial bite of brisket was good, but it was quite dry the farther towards the end I made it. The burnt ends were very good. The pulled pork was nice as well. The inside is typical order-line of BBQ place, but it's quite sterile feeling. The staff seemed aloof and out of touch with the customers; they all looked dazed and confused. Honestly, it was not a place I'd recommend to my friends and is not really memorable. I will perhaps try it again and hopefully they'll have ribs available. read more

The brisket had rub on it that was no good. The coleslaw we had tasted like they pre washed it in a dirty sink. I wonder if the pulled pork was pork butt because it tastes like it. I was secretly hoping that I could pour a bunch of BBQ sauce on the meat to make it better but that was also a terrible decision. I went with a friend to the brick and mortar on East sunshine. Nice setup, very simple with easy to read menu. I'm an amateur smoke hound, so I like to try new barbeque spots. We went on a Saturday afternoon. The service was very good, and when i couldn't decide on a side, they even let me taste test, which was awesome. I could tell that the two employees I encountered actually cared about my experience (a seemingly rare experience these days). I wanted the burnt ends but they were sold out. That was my own fault for not going sooner. I really liked that they don't reheat yesterday's leftovers like so many places do. I settled on the P.B.S. sandwich (pork, brisket, sausage) so I could try more things. The sausage was exactly what it should have been, and there wasn't much to say about that. The brisket was tender and not dry. The pulled pork was better than most, it was pulled right, juicy, and full of smokey flavor. When it came to sides I liked the potato salad better than the smoked Mac, but my buddy opted for the Mac and was pretty happy with that. As far as sauces go, you get your choice between regular (sweet) and spicy. The spicy has a good amount of slow burn. It was hard to pick one, so I did what any BBQ eating American would do and mixed them together. If you like BBQ, this place is worth a try. read more
