Update on my previous review: Smokey Point solved my issue by contacting the State and getting me an exception for the license plates replacement fee. Thank you Kimberly for going the extra mile in getting this done! I retract my previous review. Upon further investigation, the dealership left address information off the title application, although they claimed it was complete. It was not, and in the end Smokey Point did everything correctly and solved the issue of lost license plates for my vehicle. read more

I was in on 6/15/24 and was warned that the office was very shorthanded and it may take awhile. I waited about 20-25 minutes...no big deal. But I have to say, the employee that helped me had the best customer service I've seen in a government office. I believe her name was Amy (maybe April...I apologize, I'm terrible at names) and she was fantastic. I told her of the horror story I had the last time I needed to get my license done and she went above and beyond to make sure my license renewal went smoothly. She was kind, efficient and seemed like she really enjoyed her job. Even with an address change, she was quick to get me in and out and sent me off with a, "I hope you have a great day!". I called them the day before going in to find out what I needed to register an out-of-state vehicle in WA. I was told I only needed my WA driver's license and the vehicle title. When I went there, the woman told me they needed to see the bill of sale to prove I paid taxes when I purchased the vehicle. WTF? Something about it being a newer vehicle. So I went back home, dug through old paperwork, and brought back what I had. I got a different clerk this time, who took my driver's license and title and processed the registration without a problem. Didn't ask for anything else. ??? BTW they charge a 3% fee for credit card payments. This at a time when cash and check payments are risky for COVID-19... read more

Found this place by complete accident, I was on my way to the one in Marysville. WOW, what a nice surprise....as a matter of fact it was one of several surprises. Always expecting a headache due to a number of reasons (long lines, grumpy patrons, screaming children, short tempered staff). This location had none of that. The waiting area was tidy and orderly, even had an interactive wooden bus for kids to play with. There was a nice TV on the wall playing good music. Was greeted the moment of entry too with a smile. I walked in expecting a typical DOL/DMV experience but instead was met with extraordinary customer service from the owner himself after only a few minutes of waiting - no mega lines and grouchy service persons! Anthony (the owner) walked me through the process of getting an affidavit of loss and bill of sale and even saved me major money by making a recommendation for dealing with my paperwork another way. Absolutely disgusted! I have used this place a few other times before, and every time I always felt as if I was treated as less than a human. Specifically by the manager. August 27 2019, I tried to use this place because they were open late. I arrived around 5:40 p.m. After driving in rush hour traffic to Smokey point from Everett, I tried to have my bill of sale emailed to this location but the manager said she would not accept what arrived from the seller,,, even though it contained all the necessary information. We tried again but right as the clock hit 6 p.m., this cold hearted lady (with a smile) said she couldn't help me 1 minute more and kicked me out. I was literally standing at the counter as she explained that she would not (not could not) help me. She also said, "You have already been here for thirty minutes," which was inaccurate. I had been standing at the counter for about 3 or 4 minutes. But I now know that her kicking me out was a blessing in disguise because she also quoted me around 300 dollars in unpaid taxes that I would have to pay. The next day, I went to CLC in Marysville,(NO PROBLEMS) and somehow I only had to pay 140 dollars! SO what in the WORLD was this lady at Smokey point trying to charge me for??? Beware! Yes they are open late but now I question their business practices. I'm over this event but I wanted to write this review so that others might not have to pay twice as much as they should. read more

I inherited an old RV and it's sitting in another county, so my paperwork was wonky, but the people at this licensing service knew exactly what to do so I didn't have to drive it over here and run it through emissions, and they knew exactly how to handle the inheritance thing. Arrived to pickup tabs Friday @5:30, this office was closed !!! Yikes !!! Hours posted on line/receipt and phone message say 6PM. No recorded message of hours changed, only a note on the door. Now, I had to make a special trip. Concerned, I called next day, to confirm hours and are my auto tabs there, not taking anything for granted. Young gentleman answering the phone tried to put me off. Was he being lazy? "When did I order tabs?" he asked, OK, they will be here. I asked him to check, please, wanted to make sure. Yes, tabs available' I told him I didn't want to take anything for granted, as I was not pleased to arrive last evening to find the business closed, during the regular business hours. Now, I needed to make a special trip in to pickup the auto tabs. When I arrived to a very snarky, nasty woman approached me with a sarcastic smile and said I had been rude to the employee on the phone, calling me "Sweetheart" . Wow !! How did she know what was said ? I told her, there would be no issues, if Smokey Point Licensing, Arlington WA 98223 had been opened as advertised. Not to mention, I asked the women, if she was the supervisor, she said yes. OK, but she never checked my ID for the tabs to be released. I hope the sloppy business practices and snarky attitude of Smokey Point Licensing, Arlington WA 98223, does not give YOUR tabs to the wrong or dishonest person !! She didn't know who I was !! We have always used smokey point licensing. It's a great little place, I'm always in and out. The customer service is what keeps us coming back! Nobody enjoys going to these places and waiting in line to spend money, but having people working there that take the time to get to know you and seem to sincerely enjoy you as their customer is nice. These folks have been very helpful all three times I have been in there. It seems to be a husband/wife owned business, and they seem to really care about their customers and their reputation. Unfortunately, they are probably becoming too popular to keep the lines down. Today, they gave me excellent service on a special, somewhat obscure plate. Be careful with your dollars in this place. I went in there to change the title and get collector plates for my newly acquired 1981 ford F150 farm truck all original. The counter person informed me that it had to be in restored condition with a new paint job. After asking to be shown where it states that in the requirements for collector plates and them not being able to provide any sort of proof that that is required the employee then took an attitude with me. I was then informed that the truck would be valued at $10,500.00, yes that is ten thousand five hundred dollars (without even seeing it) lmao, and the cost to change title and get collector plates would be over a thousand dollars. Are you kidding me on a truck that I payed $200.00 dollars for. This place has decided that they are the all knowing enforcer for the Washington State collector plate program. In reality the vehicle has to be at least 30 years old and can not be driven on a daily basis or used for hauling purposes if it is a truck. There are several other license agencies close by that will work within the rules and fairly assess the value of your vehicle rather than full bluebook its value without even seeing it.
